Devi Kamakshi is seated in Padmaasana in the Omkara Kona of Gayatri as Bila Peethaasana on the Gayatri Mantapa in the Kama Koshta. She is Visha Vyapaka; Adi Shakti, Swayam Vyakta Swarupini ot Self Generated; Jagajjanani, Chaturbhuja, Trinayana, Mula Shakti, Brahma Vidya, Adi Lakshmi, Atma Shakti, Jagaddhaatri or the Grip of the Universe, Lustrous like Lotuses, Arthendu Shekara or with half- Moon retained head; adorned with a Celestial Kireeta or Headgear; Paashankushekshu Kodanda Pushpa baana bhraajamaana Karaambujaa' or with the bright lotus-like hands carrying Noose- Goad-Sugar cane like bow and Flower arrows; TatankaYugali bhuta tapanodupa mandalaa or wearing ear-rings like Surya and Chandra having cosmic relevance; Divya bhushana bhushita or adorned with celestial ornaments; Divya Shringaara vesha or donning such a dress that enhances love; wearing blood red and bright clothing; Rakta Raajeeva Maalaalankrita or decorated with the garlands of red lotuses; Sowbhagya Vardhanaabharanopeta or bedecked with such jewellery that augments auspiciousness; Divya Mangala Sutra Dharini or festooned with Mangala Sutra the Symbol Married Life of Prakriti and Purusha;

As instructed by Shiva, all the Devas who took to the Form of Shukaas (Parrots) at Kama Koshta on the Champaka Tree were sincerely praying to Devi Kamakshi as Kanya for several years as the latter was in the Maha Bila. Kamakshi then decided to help Devas who were thrown out of their legitimate Place of Swarga and at the same time released her subdued rage against Bandhaka.

She emerged out from the Maha Bila assuming a Sagunaatmika Tri Shakti who first uttered the word KA' and created Brahma from her left Eye, uttered the second word AA'from her right Eye and then the third word MA' and generated Maha Deva from her Phaala Netra or the third eye on the forehead. She then named the Sishurupa (infant form) Brahma and fed him with Srishti Vidyaatmaka' Ksheera; Vishnu with Sthiti Vidyaatmika Ksheera and Maha Deva with Laya Vidyatmika Ksheera. The infants eventually grew up as youths and wondered what happened about the Universe!

Brahma then created Charachaaras'or the Moving and Immovable Beings and Vishnu and Shiva continued performing their respective duties. Then the entire Scenario looked like a dream as Devas were in the form of parrots on the Champaka Tree and the re-created Bandhakaasura became visible. The Kanyaka Devi who as Maha Tripura Sundari became furious at the sight of the Asura and assuned a Mammoth Form of Ashtaadasha Bhuja' or of Eighteen-Hands with Chakra and other Ayudhas and in the presence of the Tri Murtis and Devas placed one foot of hers on the Asura's heart, another foot on his neck and trampled him while holding his head with two of her hands and smashed him to death in a second, searched his sons and relatives meticulously and killed them all, dragged the Asura's huge body into the Kamakoshtha Bila as an innocent and girlish Bala with a graceful and fully ornamented Swarupa.

Devas discarded their Shuka Swarupas and celebrated Devi's victory as they rained flowers from the Skies, Gandharva-Kinnaras sang tuneful melodies, Apsaraas performed attractive and graceful dances and Munis recited Veda Mantras and the highly delighted went in trances as they were under suppresion for countless years of shameful existence. In the midst of this festive atmosphere, the Kanyaka Devi announced that in the Maha Bila itself the huge body of the Asura would be buried and a Vijaya Sthambha'(Pillar of Victory) would be installed.

Inside the Bila there was a Temple materialised with a Divya Simhasana or a Celestial Throne. The Bila Vasini was then installed in the centre of a Navaavarana' or Nine-Enclosured Area as Shadaadhara'or supported by six hinges; Shatchakra Sancharini'or the Moving Shakti of Six Chakras (Circles); Shatdarshana Pratipaadya'or of Six sided Visions; and Shada -amnaaya Samaaraadhyaa' or worshippable by Six Amnaayas or Krama' or order of Seriatim. The Para Devata was then invited and devotees commenced worship by reciting Omkaara Veda Mantras withAbhisheka' of waters of Ganga and other sacred Tirthas ; coconut water; Go Ksheera-Dadhi- Ghrita-Madhu-Shuddhodakaas or of Cow's milk, curd, Ghee, honey and Pure Waters respectively; followed by Pancha Puja with Pushpa-Kumkumaakshata-Dhupa-Deepa-Naivedya of Panchamrita- Bhakshya Bhojyaadi Shad -rasopetaanna-Karpura Taambulas. Then Bali Daanaas with the observance of Silence and highly concentrated Dhyaana and Japaas should be followed.

Over night when the doors were opened Devi was present as Bimba Rupini Tripuraambika and the entire Area of the Bilwa was occupied as a Chaurveda Vedika, trifurcated the Vedika with Gayatri Mantra of Om Bhuh tatsavitunenyam-Om Bhuvah Bhargo Devasya Dheemahi-Ogum Suvah dhiyo yonah prachodayaat as three Pillared partitions; and prepared Varna Traya Pranava of Aa+Vu+M as the Peetha and thus materialised a Gayatri Mandapa. Then as instructed by Kanyaka Devi herself she was worshipped from mid-night onward to Sun Rise. In the morning of that Shri Mukha Samvatsara-Phalgunma Maasa-Krishna Paksha-Pratipattithi-Shukra vaara-Arunodaya-Purva-phalguni Nakshatra when Surya was in Kumbha Raasi, the Kanyaka Devi then finally manifested herself as Maha Tripura Sundari.

As Devas who worshipped her as Kanyaka Devi and wondered who that new manifestation was and Devi explained that she assumed the Tripura Sundari's Form at the time of terminating the Asura and returned to Kanya Rupa later but now she resumed the new Avatara as Tripura Sundari; she defined her name as Kakaara-Akaaraa-Makaara' or Kamakshi again

. She assured that from then onward she would discard the Maha Bila and reside at the Gayatri Mandapa for good permanently. Then Brahmins recited Stotras continuously and worships followed without break eversince. Deva Shilpi Vishwa karma gifted her a box named Kuntala' as a Souvenir; Brahma presented a pearl lace and golden Chhatra; Vishnu offered a Nava Ratna Kireeta and Shiva a Shri Chakra Pataka'.That Evening Devi was taken in a Memorable Procession.

Devi Kamakshi assured that she would spend as much time in Kanchipura as she would in the Chintaamani Griha at Mani Dweepa and that as Kamakshi would continue in the Shripura at Kanchi. Maha Deva announced that those who would venerate Kamakshi on her Avirbhaava Dina' at Kanchi would secure Koti Yagjna Phala.

Shiva again reappeared as Durvasa Maharshi along with Koushika Putra Goutama Maharshi and Bharadwaja Putra Kundini Kumara and appointed them as the Archakas'and instruted to them about in Nitya Pujaa Vidhana; he declared that in Krita Yuga he would appear as Durvasa; in TretaYuga as Bhargava; in Dwapara Yuga as Dhoumya and in Kali Yuga as Muka Muni;

Maha Deva further stated that in Krita Yuga he himself would script Dwi-Sahasra naamaavali in praise of Kamakshi; in Treata Yuga Panchashataadhika Sahasranaamaas; in Dwapara Yuga Sahasra Shlokas and in KaliYuga Pancha Shata shlokaas. Then onward Kanchi Kamakshi Pujas had been executed eversince as stated by Maharshi Markandeya to King Suratha.

Kamakshi graces Mukasankara

Muka Sankara is the son of Vidyavathi, a famous Astronomer and Astrologer from the holy town of Kanchi.. Unfortunately, Muka Sankara was congenitally deaf and dumb and was a big concern for his parents.
Everyday, Muka Sankara would go and sit in front of Goddess Kamakshi in Kanchi Temple and would keep staring at Her, offering Her his silent prayers.
In a few days, Muka Sankara became the most beloved child of the Kanchi Kamakshi Amman Temple.. All the Temple priests there would offer him Prasad, every day after the morning pooja, and bless him.
One day, Muka Sankara was sitting right in front of Goddess Kamakshi in the Kanchi Temple.
That day too, as he does everyday, he was staring straight into the eyes of Kamakshi Amman and was silently offering his prayers.
That day too, as they do everyday, the Temple priests came to him, served him the sacred Prasad and blessed him, chanting the asirwada mantras and moved away..
But suddenly taking all the priests, all the devotees and all the Kamakshi Temple staff into a complete state of a speechless shock, Muka Sankara, who was a born deaf and a born dumb boy and who was until then just staring constantly and straight into the eyes of Goddess Kamakshi, started reciting a few amazing Slokas in Sanskrit..
For a few moments, all those around him could not believe what they were watching.. Taking them all into a further more state of shock, Muka Sankara, in all, had recited five hundred Sanskrit Slokas praising the glory of Goddess Kamakshi.
It was a sheer miracle of Goddess Kamakshi, the principal deity of Kanchi Temple, maintained by the most revered Kanchi Kama Kothi Peetham.
The news immediately reached the then Peethadhipathi of Kanchi Peetham, Sri Vidyaghana Saraswathi.. He blessed the boy and called for his parents..
Later when they came, the Acharya told them,
"Today, your son is specially blessed by Goddess Kamakshi Amman.. Otherwise, how can a congenitally deaf and dumb boy can speak and compose five hundred Slokas in Sanskrit.. If you permit me I shall grant him Sanyasa and declare him as my successor to this sacred Kanchi Kama Koti Peetham..
He's blessed by the Amman and so by all means is eligible to become the next Acharya of this Peetham.. Once he's offered the Sanyasa life, he should forever stay in this Peetham and you should forever be prepared to lose your rights of parenthood over him..
But let me tell you.. Even God is not empowered to grant Sanyasa to a boy without seeking his parents' permission.. Hence am seeking your permission now .. Are you ready to offer your son forever to Kanchi Peetham.. If so, then I shall initiate the next part of the sacred process
Paying their obeisance to the golden words of the Kanchi Acharya, the humble parents of Muka Sankara had prostrated before the holy feet of His Holiness Sri Vidyaghana Saraswathi and have unconditionally agreed to offer their child forever to the Kanchi Peetham.
Later, His Holiness Sri Vidyaghana Saraswathi granted Sanyasa dharmas to Muka Sankara and had ordained him as his successor to the holy Kanchi Kama Kothi Peetham.
Thus, this congenitally deaf and dumb boy Muka Sankara went on to become His Holiness Sri Sri Sri Muka Sankarendra Saraswathi (398 AD -437 AD) the twentieth Acharya of Kanchi Kamakothi Peetham.
The five hundred Sanskrit slokas that He had recited that day, in front of Kamakshi Amman, were immortalized and compiled into a book by His disciples which are now more popularly known to the world as Mooka Pancha Sathi'.

It is believed by many and proved in many cases too that if all the parents who have children suffering from Autism, A D H D and any other knowledge deficiency problems recite or listen to this Muka Pancha Sathi once everyday they can then derive many amazing benefits from these spontaneously originated great Sanskrit Slokas.. PEACE

(There's another version that says Muka Sankara consumed the Ucchishta' (left over food) of Goddess Kamakshi that day and had miraculously developed the ability not only to speak but also to spontaneously recite what is called Muka Pancha Sathi)
A steady recitation of these Slokas have brought in many radical changes in many children who were suffering from dumbness and other speech and learning related disorders ..

Lalita Parameswari Sada Shiva

Lalita's consort is Sadashiva or Chinmaya Shiva or Kameswara.

Sri Lalitopakhyana is a part of Brahmanda Purana. It details the Avatara and Lila of Parashakti Lalita Mahatripurasundari. The Parayana of this sacred text is considered to be more fruitful than even Saptashati. A single Parayana of this great text confers a merit, equal to thousand (Sahasra) repetitions of Chandi.
In the 8th chapter of Lalitopakhyana there is a stotram called Lalita Stava Raja(the king of all prayers to Lalita)

The 11th verse of that stotram is:

11.kriiDaa te lokaracanaa sakhaa te cinmayaH shivaH .
aahaaraste sadaanando vaasaste hR^idayaM sataam ..11..

Your sport is the creation of the world , your friend is the pure Lord Shiva, You take the everlasting happiness as food and live forever in the heart.
Also Lalita Sahasranama describes Lalita as Sadashiva Pativrata (the devoted wife of Sadashiva) and also as Gurupriya or the consort of Shiva, the great Guru.

And,the same stotram also says "Kaameshabaddha Mangalya sutra shobhita kantharaa" Or "the Mangala Sutra tied by Kameswara is around her neck".

On the significance of the Pancha Deity seat:

From Devi Bhagavatam Book 7,Chapter XXIX

Vyasa says:

So with all the care possible, the Lady of the Universe is to be worshipped and served. Men should avoid worshipping any other gods, as people avoid the husk to get the grain inside. O King! By churning the ocean of the Vedas, I have got the jewel as the lotus-feet of the Par S'akti; and I think that I have discharged all my duties and think myself satisfied and successful. Brahm, Visnu Rudra, and Is'vara are the four feet and Sad S'iva is the plank overhead; thus these five form the seat on which the Dev is seated. There is no other deity superior to Her. To show this (to the ordinary ignorant people) the Mah Dev has taken this seat composed of the five Brahm, Visnu, Rudra, Is'vara and Sad S'iva. Superior to these five, what is stated in the Vedas as Vyaktam and in which all this Universe is sewn, as it were, crosswise and lengthwise, lying in and through, that is Bhuvanes'var, the Goddess of the Universe.
So,Sri Lalita's 5-Deity seat demonstrates and emphasizes the fact that there is no Deity who is superior to Lalita. Lalita's supremacy is unquestionable.

Significance of Lalita's sugarcane bow

From the Lalita Sahasranama stotram:

Manorupekshu Kodanda Pancha Tanmatra Saayakaa, Nijaaruna Prabhaapura majjadbrahmaanda mandalaa/

She who carries a sugar-cane bow with the determination of materialising the universe with Her lower left hand, while actually taking up the deed of creation with the aid of Five Tanmatras or elements by another hand of herself.
Here the sugarcane bow symbolizes the mind from which arises the desire to create the entire creation.

Lalita holds five flowery arrows, noose, goad and bow. The noose is attachment (moon). The goad is repulsion (sun). The sugarcane bow is the mind. The flowery arrows are the five sense impressions. When consciousness perceives these, the outward directed arrows stop being dry sticks.
On why Sadashiva is lying down and not sitting up

SadaShiva here denotes the supreme consciousness that pervades everything, but he is the passive consciousness.

That's why he is being shown as lying down .

Here Sadashiva is just witnessing Lalita's sport (of creation).

Shakti is triple as wake-dream-deep sleep. What is called the Fourth is the witness, Shiva, who is said to pervade the whole cosmos just as heat pervades a red hot iron.

Lalita, as primordial devi, rays out her attendants and shaktis as modifications of moon, sun and fire. In this Shiva has no place, no qualities, is without the ability to act. Only when united with devi may 'he' act.

This is based on the subtle and practical idea of Shiva as pure consciousness, witness of the triple manifestation of his Shakti. This Shakti, the very essence of the three gunas of Sattvas, Rajas, and Tamas, is the cause of all manifestation in the universe and as a human being. The three shaktis, by blending and reblending, create all things

Nemili Bala (Tripura Sundari) Temple

A calm and poised atmosphere near Vellore, the most elegant town of Tamil Nadu in the district of Arakkonam is a village called Nemili. Seated in her own house, Sri Bala Tripura Sundari has been incessantly showering her blessings on Her devotees for several years.

it is a significant truth cum stipulation that unless the Lordess wishes you to see you, it is becoming almost next to impossible to go to this temple.

Other temples of Tripura Sundari:

  1. Thiruvanmiyur
  2. Tri Soolam
  3. Thirukazhunkundram
  4. Thiruvathiai
  5. Sirkazhi

The significance of Bala Tripura Sundari unlike Her other temples enlisted above is that the Lordess is a small nine-year old girl named as 'Bala'. The house, She resides has been named as Bala Peetham.

It was in the dream of Shri Subramania Iyer, that the Lordess commanded about one hundred years ago, to take Her idol to his hometown when She would be floating in the flood of the river Kushasthalai. For about three days, Shri Subramania Iyer searched the backyard of his home and the river banks but in vain. The next day, he got hold of the three-inch bronze idol in the river, which he consecrated and placed in the center of his house, which is now currently the Bala Peetham. The prime diety of this temple is Raja Rajeswari, the family deity of the pundits over there. The deity Bala Thirupura Sundari has supposed to come on earth as a child goddess out of pure affection and not devotion.

Being a child god, the devotees are expected to only think of thier wish and pray for the same to Her instead of diverting the focus and attention on the offerings that are being intended to be made. Such distractions, which are often on par bargains, are supposed to make the diety feel bad and it is a humble request for the devotees to observe this fact.

The temple has also been conducted with Poojas by Sri Kanchi Paramacharya in 1945 along with his religious group for three full days.

It was Thirumuruga Kripananda Variyar, who told the following quotes "I see in this great peetham, the collection of all our Gods on earth".

Since the diety is a child, the prasadam is chocalates and biscuits. The devotees are given only chocalates. The decoration or the alankaram of the diety also is a pretty simple plain vanilla small silk pavada .The Bala Peetham abode is better known as a home rather than as temple.

People call her Amma..the mother.

At Penusila Andhrapradesh Vijayeswari Amma was considered the mother of all.It is said that Vijayeswari Devi did penance in The deep forests of Penusila.

Lalita Parameswari Temple..Penusila.

At Amma's Penusila Ashram, a beautiful and divinely powerful temple for Divine Mother has been constructed. Every detail of the temple construction has been guided by Amma, who has used her vast knowledge of vastu sastra in designing the temple. Because the three main forms of Divine Mother are worshipped here, the temple is known as "Tri Shakti Peetham, or "The Sacred Abode of Three Divine Energies. In addition, Amma has empowered the main deities with the energy of Her own tapasya, performed over ten years in the Penusila Forest. Thus, Amma's own divine energy has been installed in this sacred temple. Amma has said that there is no other place on Earth that has the same energy as this unique temple, and that this temple is the main center for Sri Lalita Parameswari's divine energy.

Amma has said that this temple is "Manidweepa Mahasamsthanam, meaning that the energy of Manidweepa itself is contained in the temple. Manidweepa, of course, is the celestial abode of Sri Lalita Parameswari. She has further commented that there is no other place on Earth that has the same energy as this unique temple, and that this temple is the main center for Sri Lalita Parameswari's divine energy.

For the sake of world peace and universal welfare, many pujas are being performed in the temple on a regular basis. Those who perform or sponsor this worship are blessed abundantly by Divine Mother. At the time of worship, uniquely powerful rays of divine energy emanate from the granite murthi, or carved image, of Devi. These rays form a shield of protection around the devotees, reducing any negative energy and destroying any sins. The waves of energy flowing from the Sri Chakra Meru bestow endless positive energy on the devotees, such that they and their families shine brightly with good health, happiness, and every kind of prosperity.

All the pujas have been designed to help devotees overcome their troubles and heartaches.

Rajarajeswari Temple Polali

According to the myothology, When evil forces gained strength and got the upper hand and embodied themselves as demons and began to destroy the Dharma Setu (Bridge of Dharma). Rajas and Tamas were the most superior evil qualities in them. They tortured the people in innumerable ways. At that time, Shri Bhuvaneshwari, a divine mother assumed divine forms with the names Kumari, Tripura, Kali and Durga and established the age old Dharma by destroying the wicked and protecting the good. After coronation She was called Shri Rajarajeshwari.

After the untimely death of his wife Sati Lord Rudra renounced all activities and started severe penance. Seeing this, Kama-the God of Love shot Rudra with his darts of love. Rudra in rage opened his third eye and burnt Kama into ashes.
After many years Lord Ganesha made a human form with that ash and placed it before Rudra. Lord Rudra looked at it with compassion and an inert image became a living being. Nandikeshwara initiated him with the holy Rudramanthra. The ash born being, repeated the mantra with implicit faith and incessantly prayed Lord Shiva (Rudra). Lord Shiva became highly pleased with him and blessed him with many boons.

This ash born being became famous, known as Bhandasura. Shrukracharya, the preceptor of demons took him to Shonithapura and there he was crowned as the king of asuras (demons). Shukracharya initiated Bhandasura with many mantras of mysterious power. As advised by Shukracharya, Bhandasura engaged himself in severe penance, got many boons and became very powerful. Gods of heaven and Thrimurthis built a mahamantapa and a chariot for Shri Bhuvaneshwari with the help of Vishwakarma. Brahma and other Gods assembled in the Mahamantapa and with just a look at Goddess Shri Mahadevi, the things they desired got fulfilled. Goddess boarded her Shri Chakra ornamented with navaparvas. Shri Devi with her large army and assistants advanced in no time and arrived at Shonithapura of Bhandasura and encamped there.

The temple has been described in the ancient inscriptions, including the Markandeya Purana, Ashoka inscriptions and travel accounts of ancient travellers. Based on one of the inscripitions , the temple was bulit in the 18th century with the clay idol. The temple was built by king Suratha and that the king offered his own crown, studded with precious jewels. The king having lost most of his kingdom in a war and being betrayed by his own ministers, it is believed that he has taken refuge under a sage named Sumedha in forests located around what is the location of the temple now.

The clay idol of the main deity in the temple is historically believed to be up to 5000 years old. The king himself is reported to have carved the clay idol of Shri Rajarajeshwari and offered penance to the deity in return for his kingdom. The remaining inscriptions, which are available today were obtained in kariyangala village, Ammunje and in the temple itself and is now under custody of the Karnataka Government.
The region surrounding the temple was ruled by many dynasties including Kadamba, Chalukya, Alupa, Rashtrakoota, Hoisala, Vijayanagara, Ikkeri, Mysore etc. Most of these dynasties spent a lot of resources on this temple and donated agricultural lands for the benefit of the temple. Kings from the Alupa dynasty, which ruled the region around 710 AD to 720 AD were particularly noted to have contributed to the development of the temple and to have encouraged the worship of Shri Rajarajeshwari in the region. In later years, Queen Chennammaji of Keladi is reported to have visited the temple and gifted the temple with a grand chariot.
As per records of the Abdul Razzak in 1448, the temple was initially built from molten brass. The temple had four platforms. An image of the deity, 5 to 6 feet in height, with red rubies for eyes were present on the highest of the platforms. Shri Rajarajeshwari is a stucco image of the deity with a height of 10 feet. The clay used for making the idol was specially prepared with herbal mixtures for added strength.

The temple also has smaller idols for other deities including Subramanya, Bhadhrakali, Mahaganapathi and Saraswathi. During a religious event named Lepashta Gandha, the idols are coated with a special soil mixture with eight medicinal properties once every 12 years. The soil used for coating was prepared hundreds of years ago and not prepared freshly on each occasion. The roof of Mukhamandapa, a section of the temple has many Gods and Goddesses exquisitely carved in wood. The roofs of other sections of the temple like the Dhwajastambha, the Garbagriha and the pillar of lights are covered in copper plates.

The Polali Chendu festival, also known as the football festival, is a widely popular football game which is conducted for a period of five days during the annual temple festival, seven days before avabritha. The football, which is a leather ball, is made by a cobbler family in Mijar.

The members of the oil miller family of 'Kadapu Karia' bring the leather ball from Mijar. On their way back they come to the house of Malali Ballal. They first place the ball in the cow dung, in the washed front yard of the house and inform them the date of the football festival.

In the evening members of the Gutthu families occupy their seats on both sides of the front gopuram. The members of the oil miller family then place the ball and a palm leaf umbrella in the gopuram. Then the person authorized to throw the ball arrives there wearing his headgear. He then offers prayers to the deity in the presence of the members of the Gutthu.
