Did Sridevi inspire Ekta to make Naagin?

I was reading Sri's wiki page, and i came to know that she had made Naagin which was highest grosser of the year. OMFG is it even real ?😲
Was there anything this woman would even fail to do ? She did sadma, naagin, chalbaaz, chandi all in same time frame ? And here we talk about khans super stardom based on eid and diwalis, such a shame actually..

I wish I would be an 80s kid, i could grow up watching Sridevi then, i watched most of her films, but did not know about Naagin.

I think ekta was inspired by Sri, otherwise why would she make Naagin out of the blue ? On top of that this season naagin has same white outfit like Sridevi i guess.. 😕

Yeah, Naagin was a runaway hit. Sri had 9 releases in 1986 including Naagin out of which she had 5 hits (Nagina,Karma,Aakhree Rasta,Dharm Adhikari and Ghar Sansar). Apart from the 9 films, she made a special appearance in Jaanbaaz with Har Kisiko Nahi Milta which became a blockbuster song and topped the charts. Infact, Nagina was such a huge hit that despite the illogical plot and supernatural premise, Sri alone gave tough competion to her other film Karma which had Dilip Kumar,Nutan,Anil,Jackie and Naseer in it to bag the top slot.
Here's an article about the same..

Sridevi's Nagina (1986) rocks the box-office!

Sridevi in and as Nagina (1986)
For a quickie Flashback Friday, a blast to the past, when Nagina released and started breaking box-office records.

Giving Karma a run for its money!

Nagina is turning out to be one of those freak hits like Pyar Jhukta Nahinwhich deny all logic. Made by Harmesh Malhotra, who hasn't given a decent hit till now, and with only Sridevi to woo the audiences, Nagina is turning out to be the grosser which might overshadow even Karma, the media hit of '86! In the eighth week it, collected Rs. 1,58,353 (94 percent) on 3 prints in Bombay while Delhi gave it Rs 2, 04,884 on 4 prints and Cacutta Rs. 41, 438 on 1 print.

"Nagina certainly beats Karma in terms of the profits it will earn," says a distributor. "It's the runaway hit of the year, it's creating havoc everywhere!" The reason why he's getting so carried away is that Nagina was sold for a mere Rs.18 lakhs and is expected to do a business of Rs. 1 crore while Karma, which is celebrating its silver jubilee was sold for Rs. 64 lakhs and together with prints and publicity that puts up a hefty Rs 80 lakhs to be grossed before it can break even.

"It's too high a price to make money on," says the distributor. "In Bombay, it's not doing well though it is not running a deficit as yet. It's doing well in the circuits however. But it's not enough."

She also had 4 film releases in Tamil and Telegu in the same year!

Don't know about Ekta's inspiration though..

Nagina is her movie all the way. It was a sensation when it released. The finale song was the chartbuster of the year. Many girls would dance on it.

Had FILMFARE been held those years, she would have had back 2 back wins for Nagina and Mr. India.

She was the undisputed Queen of the 80s and made the era memorable mainly by her screen presence and talent.

9+Jaanbaaz song+4 SI films= 14 film releases in 1986!

Sri has done triple shifts too. It wasn't uncommon.

I think Sridevi inspired lot to Ekta because Ekta's dad Jeetendra worked with Sridevi on lot of movies when Ekta was a kid and Ekta was very close to Sridevi since her childhood.

Pretty sure there was one more Zee TV serial named Naagin, starring Sayantani Ghosh.

But it is indeed true that Sridevi's Nagina took the myth of iccadhaari naagin to a whole new level.😃😉

Not to mention, Nagina was an out and out Sridevi's film and was a solid blockbuster.
