Bhumi, Radhika why isn't there more talk about them?

I have really liked Bhumi Pednekar and Radhika Apte in their movies.

I think Bhumi really made Dum Laga Ke Haisha special, for me. And her role in Toilet: Ek Prem Katha was really well fleshed. And I totally enjoyed her part in Shubh Mangal Saavdhan.

Radhika has also acted in some great movies: Parched and Phobia especially, but also Badlapur, Padman, Kabali.

Why aren't they more 'visible'? Why isn't there more buzz about them?

Is it really because they lack star power or is there a more 'subtle' explanation? As in, is it because they have no 'godfather'/support within the industry?

Why isn't there more talk about Irrfan Khan or Nawazuddin Siddiqui? Same reason for their female counterparts.

I love Nawaz and Irrfan, too. (Maybe I should have mentioned all, just thought of the girls first).
I simply do not get why all of them aren't more... 'embraced', if you wish, as STARS... or have more popularity. Even Rajkumar Rao, after winning a National Award, is still not seen as big league.
I cannot fathom why - is it because their movies aren'y huge blockbusters, and maybe the Indian audience tends to declare stars those that DO give huge hits?

But then, you have star kids without a movie in a kitty that are much more mediatised...
So why is there this disparity?

Not star kids.
No Shabana azmi to found Meryl Streep in them.

Ok, let's say the industry does not push them. That they are (maybe) viewed as 'danger' to the success of a certain star kid.

Can't that be counteracted?

Why aren't the independent critics/directors/producers supporting, or independent newspapers... or online bloggers? I mean you cannot say Irrfan isn't a great star- his latest, Hindi Medium (a small budget film) is huge even with the Chinese market. And Irrfan is known and appreciated internationally.

Indian media, from what I see, seems so focused on daily lives of star kids that haven't yet even proved they have potential. You see hundreds of articles on, say, Jhanvi, Sara and so on..but Bhumi, Radhika, Irrfan, Nawaz are barely mentioned.

Either of the following two things are going to happen

Either they will struggle and then suddenly hit jackpot and emerge like Vidya Balan did.

Or they will do well...but sparkle in the background without much recognition, fan following or hype. Like a Konkana, Nandita Das etc.

Irrfan, Nawaz, Radhika, Bhumi, Rajkumar and all the arthouse actors, who are praised by critics and the niche audience. They all lack one thing, which stops them from gaining popularity among the mass audience, and that is "Star Quality".

Now this star quality can be anything. Like for Irrfan Khan, he's my favorite actor. Apart from being a great actor, he has screen presence and charisma, but he doesn't have good looks, and his acting style is subtle which is appreciated more in Hollywood than Bollywood. He's not quintessential Bollywood hero who can do action or dance. He's a theatre actor.

Nawaz is an actor who has screen presence, charisma, acting skills which is appreciated by Indian audience(he puts alot of energy in his acting). He could've been a Superstar, ONLY if he had good or atleast average looks.

Rajkumar too is a great actor, but he lacks screen presence and charisma. He's also more of a theatre actor.

Coming to Bhumi and Radhika, Bhumi is just not glamourous or atleast beautiful to become popular as a mainstream actress. Though like Irrfan, she also has screen presence and charisma. But tharki audience wants good looking size-zero actresses on screen, even if they can't mouth Hindi dialogues properly and have no personality.

Radhika is the best actress in Bollywood right now imo. She's much better than others, when it just comes to acting. But she also lacks screen presence and charisma, not beautiful enough.

To become a popular actor among the mass audience, a Bollywood actor needs to have screen presence, charisma, need to have decent looks, atleast know how to act even if you are below average, know how to do action, dance.

Arthouse actors always lack something among these qualities, and that's why never become popular. Although they are always appreciated because they do their job perfectly, which is doing great acting, which are "actors" actually supposed to do.

Bhumi padnekar does not look like a typical bollywood heroine. Pretty much the same reaction some people say jhanvi kapoor is average looking, lets see if she can act.
No denything shes a good actress, and its not about star kids entirely either. Id pick kirti sanon in a fun film over a film which makes me cry because i want entertainment.
Radhika apte, on the other hand is very attractive and has sharp features. Given a mass audience wali film, i think she can do good. But these girls have a opinion and they want to express it too, and bollywood is not used to it.
