CHAPTER-8

Yeh hausla kaise jhuke,

Yeh aarzoo kaise ruke,

Manzil mushkil toh kya,

Dhundhla sahil toh kya,

Tanha ye dil toh kya...

5 hours of pensive thought processing, few minutes of counselling from her husband and mother-in-law, and a good tight sleep later on; settled Sonakshi to a greater level. Only to be rattled yet again in the early hours of the morning when a huge bout of nausea hit her yet again, and she had rushed to the washroom to retch her guts out, throwing out whatever little was left in her stomach to be digested from the previous dinner she had...

Feeling everything bitter in her mouth, Sonakshi went ahead to wash her mouth, brush her teeth, and then under the shower she stood, letting the cool splashes of water soothe her senses... Though it felt good to take a cold shower, but her body suddenly felt weak, body aching; just like it was from many days; her typical signs of pregnancy that she had even at her first time at motherhood. Thinking of which, Sonakshi was again thoughtful. Pulling a stool, she sat down tiredly under the shower to think of it. To continue or not with her second chance at motherhood, she was thoughtful... Replaying Dev's words in her mind she asked herself yet again; is she ready to take a leap of faith? Re-thinking Ishwari's words she again asked herself; will she regret it in the later years of her life when conceiving another baby would be difficult, that Soha could have had another sibling, and she is growing alone? Her own self questioned her- Will Dev be able to hide his sheer desire of having his firsts, growing along with her during the times of her pregnancy, the time of delivery and the growing of their baby, which he had unfortunately missed last time. Will she be able to hold on to the guilt of depriving Dev of becoming a father right from the start?

A lot of questions rang her mind, only to be distracted by the sound of the alarm in her cell phone. She had to get up to prepare for Soha's day to school. If Dev gets up, he'd be getting hell busy the entire day, with no point to rest. She got up slowly, lest she starts feeling dizzy yet again, and switched the alarm off. Changing from her bath robe into a pair of cotton salwar kurta, Sonakshi came out of the room, beginning to prepare breakfast and their Tiffin boxes for school. A yawning Elena joined in soon. Sonakshi smiled at her. Albeit late, but Elena had started taking efforts for bringing her child properly; Sonakshi felt happy about it. Elena's eyes wouldn't open properly, until she gets a cup of coffee, a habit of hers from God knows how long, ever since she learnt that coffee was a beverage; probably. Elena prepared it half asleep. The moment the coffee brewed with milk, and the smell that wafted soon after, brought a fresh sense of nausea for Sonakshi. Excusing that she needs to go to light the diya, Sonakshi rushed off from the kitchen. Though she really had nothing in her stomach to vomit again, she went out of the hall into the garden to take some fresh air. That helped her enough, Sonakshi heaved her respite. Plucking a few fragrant flowers from the garden, she went inside the hall, this time really into the temple in the hall... Putting them as an offering Sonakshi pulled one end of her dupatta over her other shoulder, in a manner to make prayers. Cleaned the offering area near the idol, to put fresh flowers there, and lit the diya that was kept. She refrained from lightening the incense sticks, for she wasn't sure she would be able to tolerate anymore strong fragrances. She sat down on the carpet in the temple, and joined her hands. Small tears leaked her eyes. True that she felt agitated at the indecisiveness of the situation, and every now and then the calls of her nausea were keeping her constantly reminded that she needs to think about her decision soon. She can't of course wait for so long. She tried unburdening herself of the impending decision, leaving on the God to help her through this, to decide once and for all...

Raah pe kaantein bikhre agar,

Uspe toh phir bhi chalna hi hai.

Shaam chupaale suraj magar,

Raat ko ek din dhalna hi hai,

Rutt ye tal jaayegi,

Himmat rang laayegi,

Subah phir aayegi...

Yeh hausla kaise jhuke...

The day seemed hectic for Sonakshi thereafter. Elena had prepared the remaining breakfast and lunch boxes for both the kids, with Jassi joining them quickly. Another task was to wake the kids up. It was only Elena's strength to wake her son up, for he was a cranky kid right in the morning. What made Sonakshi shudder was her daughter following her brother's foot-steps in getting up for school. Once upon a time her daughter was an obedient little girl, who would sit and stand at one call of hers, now come to realise, she had little option to be spoiled back then. Now her father along, she knew exactly how to extract his attention, or the other way round Sonakshi had to pick her out of the bed to make her stand on her feet if Dev was not around. Sonakshi suddenly remembered not to pull her out of bed, instinctively touching her abdomen. She felt protective about her unborn child. She turned around for her room to shake Dev out of his sleep- "Dev, utho... Soha ko please uthaake ready kara do... Mujhse wo uthti hi nahi hai... Sonakshi complained. Though looking tired, Dev immediately got out of the bed rubbing his eyes. One benefit of him being the eldest and the most responsible sibling amongst his other brother and sisters, Dev never created issues waking up. She wished he could instil that habit in his daughter as well, but she knew what would he say, he'd never want his daughter to pay the same price for that responsibility coming on her shoulders.

Few minutes, and Dev was out of the washroom, and straight downstairs he went to the kids' room... Golu was screaming, thrashing for being woken up so early in the morning for school, while Soha stuffed another cushion on her ear, while she continued her sleep, how little ever extra she can get. Elena was scolding both of them for creating such a chaos, both the kids not budging. Dev finally picked Golu up, and turned him under the shower. The water splashing on his made him shake out of his sleep, as he ran about in the bathroom being finally awake...

"Good morning champ! Dev gave his baby boy a wide smile.

"Bigcha, aise koi kisi ko wake-up karta hai kya... Aap mujhse love nahi karte na? Golu complained, as he took the toothbrush from Dev's hand.

"Love karta hoon, tabhi toh school jaane ke liye late hone se bacha raha hoon... Warna mujhe kya, tum mat padho, Jassi Jaise ghar-ghar jaake kitchen mein khaana pakaana... Dev shrugged his shoulder. And that worked in his favour.

"Ji nahi... Main toh bada hoke, mummy ki tarah photographer banunga. Golu spoke amidst his brushing.

"Par uske liye toh padhna padta hai... Aur agar tu roz isi tarah subah uthne mein royega, toh phir ban gaya tu photographer... Dev scared him...

"Achha, kal se ek baar mein uth jaaunga... Pehle uss maharani ko toh uthaao, nahi toh wo ghar-ghar jaake jhaadu-poncha lagaayegi... Golu guffawed.

Dev laughed at his words, sure that now Golu will take his bath and come out. Rest his mother will be able to handle, he went to wake his daughter. The moment she sensed her father sitting on the bed, she climbed on his lap, her head hidden on his neck, cuddling onto him. Dev's smile came unrestricted. Picking her up as it is, he walked out of the room, up the stairs to their room, while he crossed her feet on his waist, still napping. Ishwari, Radharani and Mamaji smiled at the duo. It was another beautiful sight to see.

Sonakshi helped her take a bath, and change into her school uniform, tying her hair, while Dev packed her bag, polished her shoes, and ready everything else for the children to be off to school.

Well, after that they didn't get any time to relax or anything else. Just a fleeting concern over Sonakshi, who found it difficult to eat food, all thanks to her pregnancy. He didn't say anything though except for if she needed something else to eat.

They had to rush to office soon after, which gave them bare minimum time to talk to each other... Though Sonakshi remained pensive all day along... She had stormed her brain enough, and now she was feeling very tired...

Rightly sensing her tiredness, Dev slowly massaged her head and shoulders; bringing a smile on Sonakshi's lips... "Aapko kaise pata ki main thak gayi hoon?

"Tumhein dekh ke... he replied. "Tumne dopahar mein kuch khaaya? he asked again. She bobbed her head side to side sheepishly.

"Wo... pregnancy ki wajah se mujhse kuch khaya hi nahi jaa raha... she told.

"Hmmm... he was quiet, as he massaged her head, shoulder and back. "Sonakshi, do you need to see a doctor again? he was worried.

She pulled his hand, as he sat in front of her on the bed- "Aapko meri fikr lagi rehti hai na? he nodded vehemently. She cuddled his hand to her cheek- "Dev, yeh sab... Pregnancy mein normal hota hai. Nausea hona... Bhook na lagna... Kabhi bohot bhook lagna... Dizziness... It's not that easy to bring up another life inside us na... Sonakshi explained...

"Sonakshi, don't take me wrong, par mujhe lagta hai ki tumhein apna decision le lena chahiye... If you are not ready for the baby, don't put yourself through this trouble then. Har samay tabiyat kharaab rehna for no reason is also not good... Dev tried explaining it to her.

"Dev, maine bohot socha... And I have finally decided... Jo hoga, usko main face karungi... I can't keep ruining things for an unforeseen future, that might be the most beautiful phase of my life... I want this baby. Not just for myself, but for you... For Soha... For this family... You all deserve to experience that period of my life that you all had missed last time. I cannot deprive you of that happiness...

Hogi humein jo rehmat ataa,

Dhoop kategi saaye taley,

Apni khuda se hai ye duaa,

Manzil lagaale humko gale...

Jurrat sau baar rahe,

Ooncha iqraar rahe,

Zinda har pyaar rahe...

Yeh hausla kaise jhuke...

An unabated smile shone on Dev's face. His pink face was glowing with happiness... He hurriedly hugged her to his chest...

"Dev, mujhe bohot darr lag raha hai... She spoke resting on his chest...

"Mujhse bolo, kya darr lag raha hai, Sona... Dev combed the pad of his fingers on her scalp, still keeping on his chest.

"What if tomorrow is not as beautiful as today? she asked ambiguously.

"We'd make the best out of it... he spoke hopefully.

"Dev, I feel very-very vulnerable as far as our kids are concerned. Please, I beg of you, no matter what, don't leave us yet again. I can't live without you, or for that matter raise our children without your support. You mean the world to me and Suhana... And now for this one as well... she took his free arm to put of her abdomen.

"I promise you... Till death does us apart... I will not leave you all ever again... I'd rather die before leaving you all again... I promise... I love you all till eternity... he kissed her hair, as he hugged her to himself with absolute sincerity. They had a lot to look forward to... Mostly pleasant...
