The current Mowgli custody track reminds me of an old Akbar-Birbal story.
One day two woman came to Akbar's court with a baby. Both of them were crying. Akbar asked them "What is your problem? Why are you crying?"
One of the women said "Your Majesty! I am Sita and she is Gita. This is my baby but Gita says that he is hers."
Gita interrupted "No! your majesty! This is my baby.I have given birth to him." Saying so both of them started crying and quarreling.
Akbar asked Birbal to find out who is the real mother. Birbal whispered something to the soldier.The soldier went and came back with a sword.
Birbal said to the women "As both of you claim to be the mother of this child, I have decided to give it to both of you. I will cut this baby into two half and both of you can carry one half of him".
Sita came running to Birbal and held his hand. She said "Please spare my baby. Let Gita have this baby but don't kill the baby"
Birbal handed over the baby to Sita and said that "No mother wants to have their baby killed. She does not want to cause harm to the innocent baby.So, Sita reacted immediately and Gita did not.Hence, only Sita can be the child's actual mother". And needless to say Gita was punished by Akbar.
In the present scenario, I feel Avni is Sita and Neil is Gita. So it may happen that when Avni sees that Mowgli is getting crushed in this custody battle, she may herself handover Mowgli to Neil to shield Mowgli from this torture.
And then Neil can give that evil victorious smile only to realize later that it is him who lost the battle and not Avni.
