I fall on the other end of the line in that I have very little problems with Zoya's characterization. Do I get pissed sometime and wish she would smarten up? Certainly. But I know it's a slow process. When she does something naive I just come on here and vent it out. It's not a big issue. Being the sheltered, over-protected child she was, both with her dad and Yash, I don't expect any miracles overnight. In fact, even though she annoys me sometimes, Zoya is probably the most realistic character on the show.
She loved her husband truly, so she doesn't want to believe that he cheated on the basis of negligible "proof." She wants to uphold his legacy, his company, so she braves the big city and actually takes the time to work and learn. She makes a lot of mistakes, but damn, she owns them, and she apologizes when she's in the wrong, she's always polite and courteous, and she's always, ALWAYS willing to give people the benefit of the doubt, even though people don't extend her the same courtesy. Otherwise she would go as far from Adi as possible given everything he's put her through.
Which brings me to my big issue with this show. Adi. God, when Adi is being sweet and rational, he'd probably be my favorite character on DesiTV ever. And Harshad has this innate charm as an actor that goes so well with Jenny. Really though, I haven't seen a pairing with such easy chemistry in a very very long time. And finally, Jenny gets to work with an actor who can match her beat for beat! With that said, they are doing gross injustice to Adi's character. What could come out of showing Adi hurting Zoya over and over and over. And everytime he goes overboard, he saves her life and that's supposed to make it okay. If Adi were played by a lesser actor, this character definitely wouldn't be something I'd root for, but Harshad brings so much nuance and levity to his role that I, like Zoya, am drawn back in inspite of myself lol. And Harshad/Jenny is a firecracker combo (honestly though they are so f**king good!) that when I watch their moments without any context, I thank the TV!Gods over and over for their superior casting choices.
I just really want them to stop making Zoya Adi's punching bag. And when Zoya keeps forgiving him over and over, she loses credibility as a character, because nobody would put up with this again and again. Doesn't matter how forgiving they are. Even DesiTV has to progress sometime!
