Hi guys 😊

I have decided to make a post about the things that bothered me or I didn't like this season. Now before anyone comes and says I am spreading negativity or something. I really enjoyed watching this show and I am going to miss it very much. We can also make post after show ends talking about all the postive things about it 😛

Anyways, let's get started:

The Format: Now the core format of the show is quite innovative and cool to be honest. A live singing show where people can vote directly with their phones. This makes the show (or should make) more transparent and less scripted. Also the reaction of the judges are genuine. But what bothered me about the show were the two rounds after the auditions. The Duells and Duets. Because of these two rounds we lost some good singers and weak singers went ahead. 😒
The Judges: I like all the judges to be honest, maybe Monali not so much 😛 but I have huge respect for Shankarji, as I think he is one of best singers and plus an amazing music composer. And I like Diljit because of his unique personality. However, I feel this season they did the bare minimum. Shankarji couldn't get enough of his Tutaris and Diljit couldn't get enough of dancing to them. Monali seemed like a little school girl trying to copy everything Shankar did. Judging? Seemed like they had never heard of it. 👎🏼
The Singers: Not going to lie but the singers in this season overall were quite weak. Half of the singers in Top 30 were below average singers and I didn't care about them at all. Even the singers in the Top 16 or Top 10 didn't excite me at all. 😕
The Eliminations: Normally eliminations are exciting and intriguing in these reality shows because you never know who is going to be eliminated and you start to care about the singers, however it was quite the opposite here. Like I mentioned above I didn't care about most singers and because a lot of singers were below average you could predict (till now!!) who is going to be eliminated. 🤔 I never once felt sad about anyone leaving the show (maybe Harmony Group a little)
The Songs: What bothered me the most were the song selections of the singers. I felt like they took some kind of oath to not sing out of their comfort zones. Except Hemant, which I have to give props to 👏, because he could have also done the same and would have reached the finale, everyone else sang the same type of songs. Zaid with his Rahat Fateh Ali Khan and Sufi songs, Rohanpreet singing his calm love songs, Akthar brothers shouting most of the times, Chetan with his party songs etc. They sang something different when they had to 😒
Way Of Singing: Except Vishnumaya and Rohanpreet ( and Chetan 😛), I felt like everyone else was trying to show off than sing. Now I know it's a reality show and you have to prove yourself but the excessive and unnecessary Harkatein got annoying after a while.

I won't go into the voting meter or if the show is genuine or not because I have no idea about it. Sometimes I think it is and sometimes I have major doubts.

So what you guys think? What would you add??

I have a bone to pick with almost everything on the show! 😛😆

The Format:

Like you pointed out, we did lose some good singers in the duels round, some of them lost out by just 2% votes - Soham & Chaitanya (Khaike Paan Banaraswala), Ajay Brijwasi (Lagan Lagi), Raenit (who was given another chance), Manganiyar fusion (Sawar loon).

The duets round was also flawed in the sense that some not-so-good performers piggybacked on the good ones and were saved, in particular Dr Sudeep and Hoshiyaar.

Thereafter the contestants began performing in 2 groups divided between Sat and Sun. Here again, I would say the eliminations were unfair and seemed to be luck-of-the-draw depending on which group you were in.

The judges:

They do nothing other than give tutaaris, make far-fetched statements and give their 5% votes. No feedback, no pointers on how to improve, nothing of value. Shankar, at least, was better in Season 1. About Monali, the less said the better. The tutaaris don't make sense either. They're supposed to be handed out for the best performances, but here almost everyone is given a tutaari.

Song choices: Yes, this has been pretty bewildering to me. The point of inviting the guest stars, I thought, was to give the contestants a common theme to choose songs. But this was followed only in the Sridevi, Govinda and Rekha episodes. The song choices in others were so random. 😕 I wish they'd had more themes, something to restrict the song choices. The contestants do stick to their comfort genre, and that's because there's no mentor or even a theme that will dictate what they should sing. Most of them stick to what they're comfortable with. Excepting Hemant no one has experimented at all.

Plus, all the crazy shenanigans that the channel has pulled vis-a-vis Afreen group's elimination and this week with Vishnumaya.

It's true I'm less invested this season. Not sure whether it's because the contestants don't excite me as much or if it's the show itself. Do not enjoy Ravi's hosting either nor do I enjoy the skits/ fillers that happen during the show.

I totally agree with everything you said!! I guess they added these flawed Duets and Duells round to make it more dramatic and for Trp 🤔

Oh yes, the group thing was pretty unfair as well 😕

I think the basic premise of the show itself is flawed. Like everyone can sing here. It's like X-factor or India's got talent where age and numbers don't matter. I call that unfair. How can you, for example, compare Hemant and Zaid? Or for that matter Hemant and Vishnumaya? Two of them are just children and Hemant has had years and years of riyaaz to hone his voice and talent. It's not egalitarian at all!

I prefer shows like Indian Idol or Sa Re Ga Ma where only solo singers participate and they're grouped according to their ages. I mean, you won't find a 11 yr old competing with a 25 yr old!

Plus the groups have an advantage (or disadvantage). It maybe easier for the groups because the focus is not on one person, so they can cover up for each other while singing. But at the same time, it's also hard for them to establish themselves in the audience's hearts, like we saw here. All the groups (except Akhtars) are out.

Oh yes, this i have thought about as well. You can't make solo singers compete with groups. And you can't make adults compete with kids. 😒 Didn't anybody of the shoemakers think about this?? Or maybe it is way to get more TRP. Because it covers every type of competition. People who like kids singing can watch it, people who like group performances can watch it.

I also feel that Akthar Bros have an advantage over the solo singers. Because technically each of them has to sing half of the song. And if one makes a mistake the other one can kind of cover it up.

Oh God! There's so much wrong with the show (and I still watch it).

To start with, the format. 10 year olds competing with 60 year olds, solo singers with groups, how are you expected to judge? You can't judge a Hemant or Rohanpreet with Zaid or Vishnumaya.

Secondly, I agree everyone must sing whatever they're comfortable with. But then you'll have someone like Zaid singing only Rahat songs, Rohanpreet singing only romantic songs. Where's the versatility? A rising star should be one who can sing multiple genres. Imagine a Lata Mangeshkar sticking to only one type of songs (or Shreya Ghoshal, Udit Narayan, anyone really). Of course you have pure ghazal singers or pure qawwals, but on a show like this versatility is important. I remember last season they had a disco night. Why not something like that this year. They could have had a classical/semi classical, ghazal, qawwali, dance numbers, etc.

Next, the duels ki takkar. How were the pairs decided? Were they random? Were they chosen by someone basis something? We need to know. We lost some talented singers, and ended up with mediocre singers. Similarly, how were the pairs for duets decided? Some mediocre singers were saved because of good pairing.

When they had singers from season one pair with this years singers, why for just a few and not all contestants? It's tougher to sing with someone else you aren't used to. Hence, some contestants had it easier.

Wildcards, how and why were only three selected to compete? And why did two of them get selected and not just one? Clearly there were others who probably deserved it more.

Judges. I never thought much of Diljit or Monali as a judge even last year, but what happened to Shankar? Has he been roped in to give tutaaris? I'm not even asking for feedback but atleast fair judgement. There's too much benefit of doubt going on. If someone doesn't sing well on a day, he deserves to go. Why the I know you have the potential' bullshit?
