The other day I was going through Sushmita's IG account and admiring how she has brought up 2 adopted kids, single-handedly and refused to give in to social norms. Got me thinking how many others in BW have done this.

I know of Sarika, who became a mother out of wedlock, not sure if she raised her kids alone though. So strange that she did this back in 80s when even today, it will be a shock if any mainstream actress got pregnant out of wedlock.

Hema Malini practically raised her daughter alone since Dharam paji was busy with his first family.

Karan Johar recently has become a single parent. Despite his wealth and status, he must have some problems handling the twins alone.

Who are other such celebs who have raised kids alone?

Neena probably was the pioneer of a different kind..

Dimple too raised her daughters alone..Babita too

I don't know about Neena Gupta's story. Will have to read up on that.

Dimple never divorced Rajesh Khanna right? And then she had Sunny "chhote papa" to help with the kids I think. ;)

Yeah Karishma and Babita, definitely single moms. I wonder where Karishma's earnings are coming from though.

Masaba is love child of Nina and Viv Richards..Nina willingly carried her child and brought her up..They are in good terms with Viv

Neena Gupta. An affair with Vivian Richards led to the birth of Masaba Gupta. I remember reading her struggles about raising a daughter as an unwed woman who was moderately famous back in the days.
Even Raveen tandon had adopted two girls before her wedding I think.
I am sure I know more but can't recollect their names right now.

^Oh. I didn't know that. So weird that women back then were so brave and today there are hardly any celebs who dare to go against the society. Everybody is so image-conscious, nobody really a rebel anymore.

^Well, I don't blame them entirely. The paparazzi culture with the social media trolling is too bad for them to share anything even remotely controversial, forget rebeling openly.

^ I think they had it worse earlier because they could only get criticism or insults hurled at them earlier. They would have no way to receive support or encouragement from progressive people. Now with Social Media, actors can also receive support along with the trolling. So, I think today's generation is weak and meek.
