GENEVA WEDDING FOR SONAM KAPOOR AND ANAND AHUJA

By Sanyukta Iyer, Mumbai Mirror | Updated: Mar 24, 2018, 02.30 AM IST
Geneva wedding for Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja
Couple will tie the knot in a two-day Hindu ceremony on May 11-12

Following three months of speculation surrounding Sonam Kapoor's upcoming nuptials with her businessman- boyfriend of over two years, Anand Ahuja, Mirror has learnt that the 32-year-old actress is set to tie the knot over a two-day ceremony on May 11 and 12 in Geneva.

Last week, after a brief holiday with Delhi-based Anand in London, where he owns property as well as a few business ventures, the bride-tobe took off to Austria for a five-day spa retreat at her favourite snowcapped resort.

"The date and venue for the wedding have been locked and mass bookings for fl ights are presently underway. Her dad Anil Kapoor is personally making phone calls to invite guests. There will be sangeet and mehendi ceremonies, followed by a traditional Hindu wedding, a source from the team that is planning the wedding told Mirror, adding that the Kapoor clan took over three months to fi nalise the venue. While both Jaipur and Udaipur were among early contenders, the couple zeroed in on Geneva recently. "The nuptials will be preceded by an engagement ceremony attended by the family's inner circle, but the venue for that is presently not known, the source added.

Sonam and Anand were still looking for an ideal destination when the actress, who is the brand ambassador for a luxury Swiss watch manufacturer, was in Geneva in January, when she decided that the city was the picture perfect venue. She was accompanied by her younger sister, fi lmmaker and stylist Rhea, and the duo checked out several locations before fi nalising the venue. Since last year, Sonam has made several visits to Switzerland as part of her work commitments, including brand endorsements.

Meanwhile, buzz around the nuptials has also led to a feeding frenzy among Mumbai and Delhi's designer community, who are vying for the coveted job of designing Bollywood's resident fashionista's wedding trousseau. However, according to fashion industry sources, Sonam has already entrusted family favourites Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla (who dressed her up for a recent wedding show) and close friends, Brit designer duo Tamara Ralph and Michael Russo, with their wedding wardrobe.

Sonam and Anand made their relationship public via Instagram on Anil Kapoor's 60th birthday celebration in London in December 2016, with the extended Kapoor family welcoming Anand into the fold. Later, the couple took to documenting their courtship online with the hashtag everyday phenomenal'. Anand would comment on Sonam's posts with adoration and heart eyes, and vice-versa. Six months later, he hosted a two-day birthday bash for his ladylove in Delhi. The couple has embarked on multiple holidays together, soaking up the New York sun and traversing through Europe. Last May, Anand stood alongside Anil and Sunita Kapoor to cheer on as Sonam received the National Award Special Mention for her turn as Neerja Bhanot in Ram Madhvani's eponymous directorial.

On Valentine's Day this year, Sonam exclaimed that she was "the luckiest girl in the world, sharing pictures of a red rose bouquet from her soon-to-be husband. She also shared a picture of her walking hand-in-hand with Anand from an earlier holiday. It was appended with the caption, "Conquer the devils with a little thing called love. Everyone deserves to love and be loved...

Congragulations to them
but according to hindu traditions if some one dies in family, that year no celebrations and wedding
kaal sutak for one year.

but who cares...in the name of modernity these are considered orthodox. But there are certain reasons behind them.
Body dies, Soul never dies. Just flowing the ashes in river is not conclusion or typing RIP. There is much more to what happens to soul after death and why to skip 1 year. Those who read scriptures in detail know the reasons. The arguments of liberals dont stand here.

after effects are seen later in married life

^There is so no such tradition in all families. In my family once you do Warina(IDK what it is called in Hindi) any function can be done. Warina can be done earliest after a month. Also, tbh, kinda petty to curse people like that when the news of their happy moment is here.

OT: Congratulations to the couple. They look really happy together.

In South India usually a wedding is conducted that year in the family specifically of a girl in the family so that people can come out of the mourning and get into normalcy of day to day life. Girl in particular coz post marriage her family name n gothra changes. Boys are not allowed to get married for an year coz the girl entering the family takes in the family name n gothra after marriage. So Sonam's wedding is perfectly fine and also its not that she is getting married the next day of her kaki's death.

Congratulations to them! They look very happy, committed and sorted as a couple. Hope they have a wonderful married life.
Though I cannot help thinking..a member of their family(whether she was close to Sridevi or not is a different matyer) has JUST died, and they're already all set to plunge into wedding festivities?

I'm not talking about the Hindu tradition. They probably don't believe in it and that's absolutely cool. There's no compulsion. But its only humanity and good manners to wait a bit.

I know life goes on, her own daughter has resumed shooting and hitting the gym, etc. But out of respect hi sahi, kuch mahiney baad kar lete shaadi.

But then again, I guess it isnt fair that they put their plans on hold because of an unprecedented mishap in the family.

I wish them well. Congrats. :)

Its opposite in other parts of India, where only the son or daughter of the deceased is married off, if she or he is single. Other then that, no other festivities are celebrated for a year. Just Ganesh Chaturthi pooja is done as it cannot be skipped, but that too in a low key manner, not the usual joyous ways. Even the wedding of the unmarried son or daughter is done in a low key manner.

I dont think @clairvoyance cursed them, in fact she congratulated them. Just stating the obvious as per the culture and traditions in her community, doesn't mean she is cursing the couple to be married.
