True North

Tara read the books brought by Guruji. On one page of the book, the words were jumbled. Tara was confused as to how to read the spell. On the bottom of the page, it was written: "Provide a breath to know. She thought it would be funny to blow on the page but it was the least dangerous thought she had at that time. Otherwise, she was thinking of setting that book on fire because of its lengthy spells. She blew on the page having the jumbled words.

As soon as she blew on the page, the words started arranging themselves on the page. She dropped the book on the floor seeing this. The words continued to arrange themselves. Tara watched this in astonishment. When the words stopped arranging themselves, she kneeled beside the book and smiled. It was the locator spell. She read the spell and started gathering the items required for the spell. After she was ready to perform the spell, she realized she didn't have anything which belonged to Kalavati. Without anything of her, the spell was useless. She was so near in locating Kalavati but now it seemed to be far away from her. Her dreams of returning to her mother and Mrityunjay returning to his family were diminishing. She slumped on the floor.

Guruji entered the room and saw her slumped on the floor. He walked to her and sat next to her. He held her by her shoulder and asked, "What's the matter? She looked at him and threw herself in his arms and started crying. Govind was shocked. He had never seen her crying and today she was suddenly crying like that. He patted her back and asked once again, "What's the matter?

"I...I... don't have anything belonging to Kalavati with me to perform the locator spell, she said in between her muffled cries.

"Sh...Sh... no need to cry my child, Govind whispered in her ears.

His heart broke seeing her crying. "How many times Tara you would have cried when you were young and I was not there to hold you? he thought, his heart breaking even more. "The torture of life needs to stop now. Thinking this, he caressed her head to take away her pain. She stopped crying and parted herself from him. She found him smiling which made her confused.

"We have a belonging of Kalavati with us, he said wiping her tears from her face. Tara was still confused.

Govind stood up from his place and went out of the room. After a few moments, he returned with a sword. Seeing the sword, Tara immediately remembered to whom it belonged. It was the same sword which the Witch had used to attack Mrityunjay a couple of days ago. "I picked it up later that night when I was going to the magical market, he said giving it to Tara.

Tara hugged him tightly thinking there was still hope left for things to change. She immediately spread the map of Wonderland on the table and poured the potion on it and lifted Kalavati's sword in her hand and poured the potion on it as well. When she released the sword over the map, the sword hung in the air vertically over the farthest corner of the forest with its tip touching a point there.

"So she is still in the forest, said Mrityunjay standing next to Tara. He had come in the room when Tara had poured the potion.

Guruji stood on the other side of Tara and said, "Now look for the day when she will be killed.

Nodding her head, she brought the bowl and poured some potion in it and started chanting the spells. An image of the moon larger than normal and reddish in colour formed in the bowl. "A blue blood moon. It's the day after tomorrow, said Guruji in almost a whisper. Both Tara and Mrityunjay looked at him. Guruji quickly moved and fished the charts out from his bag and spread them on the table.

"Look the day after tomorrow is the lunar eclipse of the century. It will be a blue moon, a supermoon and a blood moon. It's called Super Blue Blood Moon because it's the second full moon in a month which makes it a blue moon and blood moon because it's a total lunar eclipse. The moon will also be the closest to the earth which makes it a supermoon. This super blue blood moon is believed to be very powerful and rare and dark magic will be at its peak during it. Kalavati must be knowing this. She will perform the magic that will strengthen her more than ever so that she cannot be defeated. We have to kill her tomorrow! he explained looking at Mrityunjay and Tara's astonished faces. He then grabbed the fallen spell book and turned some pages in a hurry.

Mrityunjay and Tara were confused seeing Guruji. "But you said dark magic will be the strongest tomorrow then how will we defeat her? asked Mrityunjay trying to think of ways to win the battle.

"Yes, you are right. But it's not always going to be strong, said Guruji lifting his eyes from the book to Tara and handing it to her.

"Why are you looking at me? she asked confused by the attention.

Guruji tapped on the book which he had handed her and said, "This spell will tell us the location where Kalavati will do the ritual. Tara immediately started reading the book. She gathered all the required ingredients and kept them on the table. Mrityunjay and Govind were standing on either side of her. One by one she poured the portions and chanted the incantation.

Soon a green mist started coming out of the bowl. Mrityunjay was confused and looked at Tara. Understanding his confusion she said, "This mist will lead us to the location where the dark powers can be summoned due to the eclipse. Tara, Mrityunjay and Guruji started following the green mist to know the location where the effect of the eclipse will be the strongest. They walked till the mist didn't disappear.

The mist disappeared after half a day's journey on foot at the northern end of the forest. "So day after tomorrow, Kalavati has to be here to strengthen herself? said Tara inspecting the surroundings.

"She has to be. She has caused too much grief and pain, Guruji said through his clenched teeth. He took a deep breath to relax as now was not the time to waste his energy on anger. He looked around in the surroundings to take note of anything strange but there was nothing. "Strange, he whispered. "Here there should be something specific where she would do the ritual but where? he thought but didn't voice his suspicion thinking he needed to look at the scrolls.

"You are supposed to alter the weather so that Mrityunjay can kill her, he said looking at her. Tara narrowed her eyes at this. Mrityunjay opened his mouth to say something but Guruji continued, "And Mrityunjay you need to keep the Pearl with you. It will provide you additional protection. He looked at Mrityunjay and walked back to the cottage. Mrityunjay and Tara followed him.

It was almost evening when they reached the cottage. Mrityunjay immediately went inside his room and after coming back he said, "I think Tara should keep the Pearl.

Govind's chest swelled with pride on seeing Mrityunjay caring so much for his daughter. But he knew he could risk his daughter's safety for the Prince. "No. She doesn't require it. She is already protected by the magic in her veins. But you will need it the day after tomorrow when Kalavati will be the strongest, Govind said and smiled at Mrityunjay.

"Guruji I don't understand how I am supposed to alter the weather? she asked bringing Govind back to the task in hand.

"For that, we will practice today. Saying this, he moved out of the cottage leaving Mrityunjay and Tara thinking about the day of the final battle. Mrityunjay turned towards Tara and pulled her in a warm embrace. The thought of the awaiting battle so near frightened her for a moment. But as soon as she was in his embrace, she knew everything would be fine while they are together.

In the Palace, the King had visited the infirmary in the morning to inform Aradhana about his decision before leaving for the search. "Aradhana, Tara is like a daughter to me and she has brought happiness to this Kingdom and this Palace every time. My men and I are going to find her and bring her back safely. She nodded hearing the words from the mighty King.

At the gates of the Palace, the Prince was standing waiting for the King. As soon as the King approached the gates, he went near the Prince and said, "Look after the Kingdom. He patted his shoulder and marched out of the gates with a troop of knights in tow.

It is funny how Tara wanted to set the book on fire due to the lengthy spells she had to study!!!!😆 😆 😆 😆 😆

Tara was shocked to see the words arranging themselves on the page and that was very well described!!!!👏 👏 👏 👏

Heart of Darkness

At the cottage, it was night now but none of them had stopped what they were doing because they wanted to be at their best when they met the Witch. Tara and Govind were practising the stance to perform the magic to alter the weather. Tara was trying to perfect the stance since after their return this evening but was unsuccessful. In the span of two days learning so much magic was overwhelming for her. She was exhausted but she continued.

Mrityunjay was moving his sword back and forth on a whetstone to sharpen its edge in the dim light of lamps. For any new swordsman the light of a lamp would not have been enough as it was just showing the sword and not its edge but for a swordsman like Mrityunjay who knew his sword like the back of his hand, it was enough. He wanted to be fully prepared for the battle when he would be face to face with Kalavati. He had waited for it from the day when Guruji had told him about his family and how because of her he was away from them. He needed to finish her and go back to his family. He looked at Tara and smiled. He would go to his family but he would not go alone. He would take the love of his life with him.

She stretched her hand above her head and closed her eyes. She moved her fingers in the air like she was playing with strings and then formed a fist. She then brought her arms in front of her and opened her palms. It caused a small white light beam in the sky above their cottage which was followed by the sound of thunder.

Guruji smiled at her and then walked into his room after instructing her to practice. She was practising when she saw Mrityunjay. In the dim light of the lamps, she was able to see the frown on his face. He was moving his sword on the whetstone but he had a distant look on his face. To bring his rare smile back on his face, she closed her eyes and released a slight shower of rain over the area where he was sharpening his sword.

As soon as the raindrops started to fall on his back he knew who was doing it. He looked up from his work causing the rain to fall on his face and well-toned chest. Keeping the sword aside, he smiled at Tara and motioned her to come towards him. Seeing his warm smile, Tara melted from inside, her concentration changed and hence her spell broke. She looked towards the cottage and seeing Govind not coming out, she quickly walked towards Mrityunjay. By the time she reached him, the rain had stopped but it had dutifully soaked Mrityunjay in it.

Mrityunjay extended his hand to her. She accepted it by placing her hand on his. He pulled her towards him, encircling his arms around her waist and she didn't mind embracing his wet body. "What was this? he asked shaking his head which caused water to fall on her face.

She giggled and said, "I thought to relax you a bit.

"You don't need any magic to relax me. You just need to kiss me like this. And he pressed his lips against hers. He started that kiss slow but slowly it grew more and more passionate. He nibbled on her lower lip causing her to gasp. His hand involuntarily moved up and down on the length of her body caressing every curve which they had discovered a day ago. By now the water that was on his skin was absorbed in her dress. Their lips danced in rhythm.

After a satisfying kiss, they rested their foreheads against each other. Mrityunjay still held Tara in his embrace. Their eyes were closed and both were panting to catch their breath. "You taste like honey, he whispered.

Tara opened her eyes and looked into his eyes. Seeing him looking at her lips, she blushed. She then looked at his swollen lips and touched her lips to find they were also swollen. She blushed a shade deeper. Mrityunjay's low husky laugh didn't help her a bit, turning her even redder. She stomped her foot on his. He winced and she smiled, walking away from him to continue her practice. He laughed at her retreating back.

Inside the cottage, Guruji was studying the maps of the Enchanted Forest to clear his suspicion. He saw some symbols on the map of the place where they had gone but didn't understand them. He took a book from his bag. It was a very old book containing symbols of ancient times and started looking in it. When he found the symbol he was looking for, all colour drained from his face. He prayed that it was not what it was saying in the book. For once he wanted the books to be wrong. "It can't be the Va... he whispered in fear.

The King and the knights had spread throughout the forest in search of Tara. At night they thought to stop for rest. Throughout the day they had searched for her but till now they were unable to find any trace of her.

Kalavati was performing a magical ritual in her cottage to strengthen herself for the eclipse. She didn't want to miss the chance to make herself the most powerful witch. She had looked in her bowl for the location and was relieved to know about it. It was a vault known as the Vault of the Dark One which was like a doorway to bring dark magic into this world from another realm. The vault was located on the ground like a circular seal. There were signs carved on it. The symbols were the three-fold tomoe, the triquetra, the triangle, the Eye of Providence, the pentagram, the moon and many other symbols with a sun in the centre. Circling all the other symbols was the Ouroboros. It was an anagram which when the right symbols were pressed at the right time after summoning dark powers would open by itself. Kalavati had covered the vault so that no one would discover it. A day after tomorrow she would harness the dark power to open it.

The last time when she had thought to harness the dark power to regain her youth, she was captured before she could even gather the strength to summon the power. If she had power like she had earlier before her capture, she would have summoned the magic from the other side and would have taken her revenge from the King for capturing her. Even though the King had released her, she was not able to able to strengthen herself as before. She had reduced drinking from young girls because that would have attracted the King's attention to her. So she had hidden herself from the King's eyes, waiting for the delivery of his child to capture and kill it.

She smirked remembering the Queen's face when she was pleading for her child and the sadness in the King's eyes for his lost child. It was a small revenge. She was not as young and powerful today as she was then. But on super blue blood moon, dark powers required little strength to summon as compared to other times. After the eclipse when she would be the strongest witch, she would destroy this Kingdom in front of the King. Once the Kingdom was destroyed, she would kill the King.

"After the eclipse, no one will be able to defeat me, she laughed and her wicked laughter resonated in her cottage.
