Watched it.
Content is the main issue that needs to addressed , people now have access to variety of content online and also through films in other industries.

BW seems to be stuck in a rut of formulaic films which are not working anymore. also the obsession with the same old romcoms. People need something different.

More genres should be tried out and stop spending more on promotional campaigns.

Blaming the actors and audience wont help the cause. Also nepotism.. which needs to be addressed I would rather watch more of a talented outsider than a talent less star kid, but sadly the talented outsiders take time to get accepted by the industry and be given films whereas even mediocre inside talent are launched by big names through big projects.

T4S. Loved watching these 4. Prefer Karan when he talks about actual business than being the party mausi mode. May I say that Ekta looked smashing with her corrective dental cosmetic surgery? Money put to good use.👍🏼

I agree that the following needs to happen:

  • Content - Far superior Screenplay writing. This is where everyone falters. Many have good ideas but execution is simply sloppy, very often leading to a weak second half syndrome.😕
  • Controlled budget: WOM is the king. No need to spend big bucks on long promotion cycle. Doesn't make any difference.
  • Explore more genres and some topical themes, not simply biopics.
  • Give more talented actors a chance - bigger films/roles, especially leading. People like Irrfan can now carry a decent product ably on his shoulders.

While I don't like her stuff much, gotta say that Ekta is one smart woman. I find myself agreeing with all her points. KJo too, for that matter. He's pretty savvy and sharp. Ronnie seemed to be a bit too optimistic and Ritesh was just.. there. 😆
I love these kinda interviews, and Anupama is really the best interviewer!

PS - who are the top 5 actors? I kept getting stuck at 4! (The Khans and Akshay)

I thought this was interesting -- it's nice to see Ronnie back. He is the least cynical about BW.
I think KJo is all talk no action. He realizes the problem but he's almost unwilling to do anything about it -- he's aware stars charge too much, but he doesn't actually want to address the problem head on. To be fair, the others didn't either, but they did hint that KJo is in a more influencing position.

In today's scenario: Khans, Akshay, Ajay.

Controlled budget is a huge factor. Making 60-70 crores on a movie, especially one that stars A listers is not very difficult and a hot at that net collection is only possible when the landing cost is between 35-40 crores. However when stars demand 35 crores as their payment they make cost recovery difficult. The payment structure of the stars really needs to be re-evaluated. Instead of paying 30 crores to a star pay 1-2 crores to a good writer and some one who excels at screenplay
