Now that I think about it, it all makes sense.

Aiyaary is a smaller film that Padman. Clashing Vs Padman on Republic holiday weekend or coming solo on Feb 9th seem equivalent scenarios. But a clash on Feb 9th with Padman, which is a non-holiday weekend, doesn't make sense, as it would have affected the numbers of Aiyaary badly.

So they are back to their initial release date. They are still clashing against a bigger film, so not many things changed.

Of course, Padmaavat is a much bigger film. But that is evened out by the bans imposed in several states I guess (even though the bans have been revoked by the SC, exibitors/distributors are refusing to show the film in places like Guj and Rajasthan out of fear of vandalization).
