Chandigarh: The Manohar Lal Khattar government in Haryana has banned the release of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's controversial film Padmaavat in the state, health minister Anil Vij said on Tuesday.

"Film Padmavati/Padmavat banned in Haryana, the senior minister tweeted.

The film had faced stiff opposition from various quarters in Haryana. Vij had earlier said that he would not allow screening of the movie in the state. He had alleged that Bhansali had wrongly presented historical facts in the movie to "defame the image of Rani Padmavati and this had hurt the sentiments of lakhs of people.

"Rani Padmavati is the symbol of Indian women' pride. The character assassination of Padmavati will not be tolerated at any level, he had said. The film, mired in controversy over its plot line, had been given a go-ahead by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which has asked the makers to change the title from Padmavati' to Padmaavat' and suggested some other modifications. The film is set for release on 25 January.

It's lovely to see him so pained for Rani Padmini's honour. Yet on the other hand this week four minor girls in Haryana were raped and killed. I wonder if it will take another 700 years for men like him to feel for them.

Has he banned crimes against women in his state?

Four rapes, mostly of minors, in the last four days in Haryana have raised serious questions about women's safety in the northern state.

Nice priorities
Anyway everyone knows bjp is not getting elected in haryana again.
So wait for this stupid regressive government to take more communal steps.

So according to these governments, they are banning the film to avoid clashes and for security purposes. These people in power really overestimate it's citizens. A country where there are more people in a cinema hall than in a voting booth or protest march, they expect people to get out and fight to stop releasing a film that they will anyways flock to the theatres to watch in the first given opportunity. 😆

Why dont these men live in present and secure the safety for women & girls in their state, instead of protesting for some Queen who could not be real or lived more then 1000 years ago. All I can say is screwed up priorities.

The irony is that the opposition parties are demanding the resignation of CM over the unprecedented surge in crime against women of late in Haryana. Are they intentionally trying to divert the spotlight from the matters of grave concern? Haryana currently tops the list in gangrapes and crimes against women amongst other states. Within the last 10 days, 4 or 5 rape and murder cases have been reported across the state. The crime rate clearly highlights the spurt in the brutal sexual violence/crime against women and the ineffectiveness of the govt in maintaining law and order in the state. When it is in the eye of storm the cabinet is contemplating a move to protect the honour of a mythical queen while the lives and honour of countless women/ girls are at stake at the hands of perverts and vultures of the society. Nice priorities and good governance!!

Why do they have CM if the health minister makes all the decisions? It's apparent that the matter has become about their ego than Rani Padmavati's pride.👎🏼

No, the decision was not taken independently by HM. As per reports it was taken in a cabinet meeting. In the previous round 😆(before gujarat elections) CM kattar declared that they will review the film after CBFC passes it.

From the outset, the issue was never about the queen's pride even for the opposing rajputs. And for the ruling govt it was about vote bank politics. It clearly shows their level of incompetence at maintaining stringent law and order in the state and also it's become habitual for them to bow down and give in to the demands of fringe under the guise of supporting their cause.
