| Muskaan Mehani |
Muskaan Mehani, the Ahmedabad girl has come a long way. Little did she realise that when she packed her bags for Mumbai, four years ago, she would live her wish of being in the city of her dreams and chasing her dreams.
Muskan shot to prime time fame as Mandy in Yeh Meri Life Hai . "That role was godsend. Bereft of any trappings of a saas-bahu saga, it gave me a chance to appear on screen in simple clothes and say real life dialogues. I didn't have to be melodramatic or loud or ultra glamorous. I guess that is what endeared me to the audience."
Muskan believes it is possible to do roles of substance even on television. "It is possible not to get trapped in stereotypical roles. One must have faith and look out for roles that challenge you as an actor and are fun to play," she says.
And now, once again she seems to have got an author backed role — one that has her playing, a simple girl from a Gujarati household, who studies to be a doctor in a forthcoming soap, Dil Mil Gaye .
"Playing a Gujarati comes easily to me. I miss being in Ahmedabad so much. The warmth of people, hospitality I am glad I asked my parents to shift with me to Mumbai, I don't think I would have survived without them," she says wistfully.
Her years in Mumbai have taught Muskan a lot. "When I arrived in Mumbai, I had no experience of the city, no godfather in the industry. I just had a desire to pursue acting and I knew I had to be in Mumbai for that."
Now that she's playing an important role in Sajid Khan's Heyy Baby , she's glad that she had the faith to follow her dreams. "I play Vidya Balan's friend in the film. It's a small role but I am happy with it. I will get a bigger audience."
