Because despite the fact actresses of today have their own fandoms, and large fan bases may I add. but they still do not attract the craze, the kind which takes you to that higher pedestal of mega/super star. People apart from fans, come to see their films because of story and their roles. But with a super star, regardless of story and role, people come to see your film, mainly because of the star herself. There is a charisma on screen with Sri and Madz which today's actresses do not have, with all due respect to their achievements. People went to cinema halls to watch Madhuri and Sridevi's films for them, not mainly or even only for the film or its storyline.

In fact Madhuri dixit even earned a place in millenium edition of Guiness book of world records for being highest paid actress.

so really don't get what the fuss is about

in those days even we had only 2 sri and madz who could command same or more pay

now we have only 1..padukone

hopefully future is brighter but then very few actresses actually have that popularity sri..madz..or deepika have had..

the rest have almost nill in pulling crowd to the cinema but keep making it a man vs woman thing instead of focusing on their star power or lack of..
