Why current actresses can't demand equal pay like Sridevi/Madhuri??

I just came across this 1994 India Today Cover Story about Madhuri. Back then india was even more conservative yet these two were able to command as much as the biggest superstar of that time . Why none of the current actresses are even paid 10% of what the male star earn per film? From what i know Khans had bigger popularity than Varun Dhawan at that time. Can u imagine any actresses like deepika, kangana or vidya getting paid more than Varun(who is getting 10 cr +)?

What is obvious is that in an industry where the battle for the top is conducted on the level of a blood sport, she has namak enough to be a phenomenon. Sridevi charges more than Madhuri. But there is no doubt who is Number One. Certainly not after the stunning success of her latest release, Khalnayak, and the waves caused by Madhuri's sensual, pulse-pounding Choli number.

Magazines that once labelled her "Madhuri Jinx-it" are now actively touting her as number one. Suddenly, everyone's begun to take notice of her. Britain's Sunday Telegraph's Foreign Bodies column recently called her "India's sexiest film star". The Times of London, reporting on the heated Choli debate, called her the country's most glamorous actress.

At Rs 40 lakh a movie. Sridevi remains the higher paid. Madhuri gets between Rs 30 lakh and Rs 35 lakh, roughly the same as Jackie Shroff but substantially higher than other stars like Salman Khan.

Madhuri's girl-next-door appeal makes her an accessible fantasy. Unlike Sridevi who is perfect enough to be plastic, Madhuri retains an essential vulnerability. Her sexuality is never threatening.

In fact, a year-and-a-half ago quite a few media and industry pundits were prophesying that she would soon take over the mantle of Number One from Sridevi. But a couple of average hits and several flops later Meenakshi is still where she was before. Whereas Sridevi has soared even higher, thereby increasing the gap between numbers one and 50 two. Reportedly Sridevi's price has jumped from eight to 20 lakhs and after Amitahh Bachchan she is the highest paid star today.

Because today's actresses don't have even 1% of Madhuri and Sridevi's popularity. The day they can, they will be paid more than the actors. Kangna who shouts for equal pay does not have even 0.1% of Madhuri's popularity.

No Social Media , 24 * 7 news channel , Crazy PRs like current actresses.Yet they were more powerful & popular than current actresses. How great is that!!

but those days khans = this days ranveer

and deepika padukone got paid A LOT more than him for padma

so really don't get what the fuss is about

in those days even we had only 2 sri and madz who could command same or more pay

now we have only 1..padukone

hopefully future is brighter but then very few actresses actually have that popularity sri..madz..or deepika have had..

the rest have almost nill in pulling crowd to the cinema but keep making it a man vs woman thing instead of focusing on their star power or lack of..

Thank you! They were demanding to be paid equal to which male stars? Young actors who were not yet superstars like them? If that is the case then as someone pointed out then Deepika makes more than Ranveer. Kareena made more than Arjun K.

Yesteryear actresses had a fanbase of their own. Be it Madhuri, Sridevi, Kajol, Aishwarya, Rani. But these days except Katrina and Deepika none have huge popularity.

katti batti..23cr flop

rangoon..20cr disaster

simran..14cr disaster

on what basis does she actually think or should we think she should demand the same as her male counterparts..when her movies been running in empty cinemas

and hate how this becomes man vs woman

where as actually this is ..in her case...stardom vs no stardom

Kangana demands SRK's paycheck when SRK's flop films earn more than Kangna's hit ones.

not really

alia is really really popular..

i mean like it or not..the girl has her target audience ..the youth loving her..

and if you inc aish and rani..(esp aish who has the lowest hits for an A lister)..i would also inc an anushka..and priyanka from todays lot..

they are more or less the same

i doubt any movie of aish..where she is the biggest star has ever done well..it has always been when she had a bigger star to star with..individually her popularity only fills forum pages and YT views..but never translate to crowd going to cinema for her alone
