AAnkhon ki Gustakhiyaan - Season V - The Exploration

Part 2

Omkara came out of the shower wearing a black kurta, to find her standing in front of the mirror adjusting her saree. She had just changed into it, after preparing her first rasoi. Everyone in OM had enjoyed the kheer thoroughly, especially one naughty chirota who didn't even like sweet food before. She looked stunning in a plain silk red saree with heavy black embroidery on the pallu. Her blouse was also black with sequins on it, the dori still open. He walked to her, may I' he looked at her in the mirror. She gave him permission with her eyes, he collected the two strings together, and was in the process of tying them, when water drops started forming shapes on her back, they were dripping off his wet hair, she flinched. Seeing her like that, he couldn't control himself and started feeling her bare back with his palms lovingly, his eyes lit with desire, he looked at her reaction in the mirror. She dropped the pleats she was holding in her hands, very affected, her breath heavy and turned around, burying her head in his chest she requested, Aap jaiye yahan se please, hume sambhal jaane dijiye'.

He understood, although not wanting to leave, he obliged. She was getting ready for her pag phera' ritual, and was due to go to Bareilly this afternoon .He would bring her back the next day. But then he remembered, his chiraiyaa didn't like flying. She was so scared in the plane, how will she make the journey in the chopper without him? Shall I go with her, he thought, but in Bareilly there is running water only 2 hours and mosquitoes 24 hours, his devil side quipped? His angel side didn't like the idea of her being alone in Bareilly with Kaali's goons, Ajay's friends lurking around. Plus, what about the fact that he will miss her like crazy, just yesterday, he had made love to her for the first time and now this long without her No, he told himself. It was a clear defeat for the devil side, yet again.
He walked to the living room where Daadi and Shivaay were deep in conversation about something. They had decided to send Omkara along with Gauri despite the tradition. They were just going to tell him that when he stood in front of them and announced.' Main bhi Gauri ke saath jaa raha hoon, Bareilly.

Daadi and Shivaay looked at each other, mischief forming in their eyes. Nahin, yeh kaise ho sakta hain?' Daadi quipped. Yes, according to tradition, the husband goes next day to bring his wife back' Shivaay pitched in.

Nahin, mujhe jana hain bas. Main Gauri ko akele chopper main nahin bhejunga' Omkara complained.

Toh theek hain, Rudra aur Bhavya ko uske saath bhej dete hain' Shivaay offered a solution, all the time grinning to Daadi who was having a great time today, in the morning at Gauri's expense and now this Omkara. They were going to make him work hard to get this wish now, they winked at each other.

Nahin Daadi. Unse nahin hoga' Omkara blurted out thinking of how they will comfort Gauri when she is panicking on the chopper, but regretted as soon as those words came out of his mouth.
Kya nahin hoga?' both Daadi and Shivaay were curious now.

Omkara was at a loss for words. He didn't know what to say, he looked here and there , not meeting their eyes and then reverted to squabbling, Please Daadi, please Shivaay, let me go with her, mera maa se bhi milna ho jayega' he looked at them with puppy eyes.

Both of them couldn't control any further and burst into laughter. Daadi hit him on his head, chal ja khote, tayyari kar le'. Omkara had a 1000 watt smile on his face, he ran to his room to pack, not forgetting to give a flying kiss to his Daadi and a thumbs up to Shivaay.

Dekha, isqh mein ache ache zid karne lagte hain' Daadi passed her age old wisdom to Shivaay.
Haan daadi, main dekh raha hoon Om kitna badal gaya hain, for the good' he was happy for his bro and lil bacha sis.

Aap. Aap kyun hamare saath chal rahe hain?' Gauri was surprised. That was not the ritual. Although she knew she was going to miss him like anything but she also wanted to have some time to gather her wits after last night.

Daadi's orders. Aur main unki koi baat nahin taalta.' Omkara lied, quickly stuffing his clothes into a bag. This was now becoming completely normal for him - small white lies, throwing tantrums, asking for what he liked, taking what he wanted. The little child Omkara that he had lost somewhere long ago was returning back, slowly. He was happy.

They took everyone's blessings, boarded the chopper and were off to Bareilly, it was going to be a two hour flight. As soon as the chopper lifted off the ground, Gauri who was sitting on the other side, rushed to sit next to Omkara, who was watching her intently, smiling. She grabbed his arm and closed her eyes, feeling the motion, only to feel him encircling her in his arms, lifting her head , kissing her lips, making her forget the whole world, not just the fact that she was in a moving chopper 10,000 feet above the ground. Whilst his lips played hide and seek with her mouth, his hands roamed all over her body. They didn't realise when they touched down in Bareilly, the pilots announcement got them out of their reverie. When they separated, Gauri looked all flushed with red cheeks, swollen lips, dishevelled hair. She was about to get off, when he stopped her,' wait.' He arranged her hair, brushed her face and lips, putting things right as much as he could and walked out with her. She admired him for doing that.

They were welcomed with a warm smile and aarti thaal. Later, Maa informed that she was going away for a while. She was waiting for Gauri's wedding and now that was done, she was keen to go for her chaar dhaam yatra. A group departed from Bareilly every year and this year it was going today, so after the pag phera, at late night she would be joining the group and taking the train. Of course they were welcome to stay in the house until they can take the chopper back to Mumbai. She apologised for leaving them today but it was practical to go with the group, both Omkara and Gauri assured her that it was perfectly fine. They had come to meet her and do the rasam and were happy for her undertaking the pilgrimage.

After lunch, whilst Gauri helped Maa to pack for her 3 months long trip, Omkara was sent away to explore Bareilly with her friends, who mostly comprised of little school going boys from the neighbourhood. They took Omkara to see their school, the grounds where Gauri and her troupe which included them, performed Ramleela' every ear. Now that Gauri was married and gone, they missed her. They showed him the local market, the stalls, a little open space where Gauri taught them dance moves and played with them. They also passed the town square where Gauri was buried in the ground with only head outside and villagers' pelted stones at her on the day she ran away from her wedding with Kaali. Omkara , who was enjoying the walk so far, learning more about Gauri in the process, now felt a sharp pain in his heart , how could he have missed all that? Why was he not there to help her? She didn't need saving, his wife was nothing if not brave who saved herself and him at times, but he could have been there for her?

Thoughts were taking over in his mind, when one of the kids pulled his hand and showed him a plant. What is this?' Omkara enquired. Yehi woh paudha hain jiski aag jalane se dhua hota hain. Humne Gauri didi ko diya that jab Kaali aur uske bhai usse zabadasti shaadi kar rahe the. Isse dhua karke, bhaagi thi woh waha se'. One boy quipped describing their bravery. Omkara was unaware of the details of Gauri's trial during Kaali wedding time, he always wanted to speak with her about it, but there never was a right moment. With layers of information uncovering now, he was determined to know it all such that they can put it away forever, together. He understood her finally; she was not very dissimilar to him. She filled her loneliness with these kids, with dance and drama, with creating chunris and with her devotion to Shankarji, just like he took to art. Except that she had to be brave for the whole family, to look after her mother, whilst he could afford to be weak, surrounded by people who loved him, Daadi, Shivaay, Rudra. With them looking after him, he could give up every now and then and succumb to weakness, for instance drugs, but she didn't have that luxury.

They returned home, where Gauri had prepared dinner for all, they ate together, it was simple food, but Omkara was delighted to see the camaraderie between Gauri and her little friends. Whilst she caught up with them, he spent time with Maa, asking her about the details of the arrangements for her journey, making notes, in case she needed help somewhere. Later that night, they dropped Maa off to the train station and bid her a joyous journey.

Gauri was a bit sad, to see her mother leave, feeling nostalgic about the past, but Omkara consoled her that she can call her every day and talk to her. They walked hand in hand to the house. Gauri prepared the mosquito net over the bed and Omkara got in, stretching his hand out for her. She switched off the light, got in, hugged him and cried. He consoled her, cradling her like a baby, kissing her tears away. They talked about her childhood, her friends, ramleela, dancing, Kaali's episode, she told him everything, how she was shackled, forced to dance and entertain, three men tried to marry her at the same time, Kaali had threatened to harm her sick mother. How she escaped with the help of the kids, and found him. She knew that her Shankarji had sent him for her and that he will help her. She was very grateful when he married her, before the entire village, even after that if he left her, he had saved her. That was the day she knew that this man cannot see anything bad happening before his eyes. She had no words to thank him. In the past months, he had shown her many times what she meant to him, how he had come to love her so much, but she had not yet told him what he meant to him. He was the ray of hope she got when she was drowning in darkness, when the only way out for not marrying Kaali was death. He must think that she worshipped him since he married her. No, he was hope for her; he was symbolic of the fact that her Shankarji was still looking out for her, that's why he had sent him. In his presence she felt safe. She had no expectations from him, then, when he married her first time, bcoz he had already done his bit, gave her hope.

Omkara was shocked, she could have complained, she could have reprimanded him for not listening to her, for not believing in her, for not helping her, but she did nothing of that sort. She believed he saved her! He had tears in his eyes, it was her turn to console him, they slept in each other's arms, protected and cocooned, weaving new memories under the net.

Next morning, Omkara woke up to the chiming bells of aarti and smiled. He opened his eyes, she was in front of him, praying before the idols. She turned around and he closed his eyes in the nick of time to pretend he is asleep. She came to him, leaned on him, water dripping from her wet hair, her aroma intoxicating, kissed his cheek making him smile and then rang the bell in his ear, laughing with mischief.

He woke up , happy that she was happy, she had buried her pain somewhere last night in their moments of love, he had his prankster titli back, what else could he want?

Get up and have a bath, warna pani chala jayega' she ordered him.

END

So what did you think people?

Wonderfully written dear.
How he helped with her Dori, how both got lost in each other and her request to leave her alone ( both were so lost in each other, so consumed by the desire they felt yet which was very new for Gauri and she needed some time)

Loved how Dadi and Shivaay teased him, how Om successfully managed to take her mind off of her fear of flying
How he finally discovered the truth
their talk and their happiness

With each update you amaze me more dear🤗
