Does popularity of a movie/show affect your opinion of regressiveness?

At times, I feel this applies to IF as well, but mostly SNS. I have noticed that if a movie/ TV show is popular and yet regressive, people are less willing to speak up against it. Yet if the movie/show is less popular or if the actor has less fans (more so the main factor), people are more willing to attack the movie/show and even the actor. I don't want to give examples of movies in this forum, cos it is less applicable (as compared to in SNS) plus I don't want to start an argument and deviate from the topic.
For TV, people are willing to speak up against PPK/TSMSP but yet people don't speak up as much against IB/ Udaan. I noticed more people were criticising IPK3 only after it was clear that it was becoming a flop. Both TSMSP and IB involve chauvinistic males and yet I find the TSMSP gets attacked more than IB. To be clear, I'm not supporting any of these shows, but I don't get the double standards. In fact, I've noticed that some of those who bash TSMSP/other regressive shows are even fans of IB. 😕

Is it because people are afraid of getting attacked by the actor's fans or don't want to be trolled? If so, it is sad, as we can never get rid of regressive movies/ TV shows as long as people pick and choose regressive content. People need to speak up against regressive content even in popular movies/ shows as well. By targeting the less popular movies/ TV shows alone, we will never get rid of regressive content and will be stuck in the same era of regressiveness.

P.S. To clarify, I'm including serials in my post as both movies and serials influence culture and the impact of both should be discussed.

No. Regressive is regressive despite of popularity. All Hindi shows are regressive but I did love some of those. But never found the things shown right.

Nah. If anything, I criticize the popular stuff more and get backlash for it. It's worth it tho 🤣

Nice. 😊 The problem is most people don't. They just go after the less popular stuff. The best part is when they are fans of the more popular stuff which is just as or not more regressive than the less popular stuff. Seriously, we need more people like you. 😆

i dont form opinions based on tv show or movie. what is regressive remains regressive in my eyes even if it has my favourite actors.

I watch movies simply for entertainment and nothing else.
i don't watch tv/shows so no comments there.
To answer your question, I don't base my opinions through TV shows or movies or news only. I use my own brain for the most part.😆

I'm not very active at other SNS but about this forum I can tell you that it's pretty unique. The more popular you are the more bashing you'll get. In the outside world you'll find arijit. Quite popular.. here - not so much(me included!). But I feel it represents what you feel quite well so I like it. When has mat pagli song released most of the forum bashed it for how regressive it was, outside world it was quite popular. Imagine! So o think it's nice that most of us express our honest opinions atleast here. And if we bash.. come on.. that should be done right? Otherwise where's the fun???

I WAS an IB fan who keeps on bashing IB. 😆 Because it's the one of those regressive shows, which I've actually watched properly.

Actually I would've never watched that show, if Gul hadn't misleaded the audience, by promoting it as a story about brothers bonding. The show was promoted as a family drama, but Gul mata was again serving her stale mills and boons love story in the platter.

The show was still fine for the first few months. Yes, it had it's share of manhandling and regressiveness. The lead hero Shivaye was a certified MCP, but the other two brothers were very different from the typical Gul heroes. And they made me stick to the show. I was waiting for the show to focus on the story of the other two brothers, not realizing that Gul is making a fool out of me.😆

What I liked about the show was that, in the starting few months all characters had grey shades, instead of being black and white. The lead heroine Anika was also not mahaan at that time. The characters had depth, and they were actually relatable.

It was not a modern youth show, but it wasn't really regressive either.

I think after Shivaye-Anika marriage, the show became completely regressive, with that saas-bahu nonsense.

I've bashed other regressive shows too, but not much because I've never watched them regularly.
