If you were making a serial based on a book...

So I recently read a book...a love story that was broadly based on the classic Beauty and the Beast fairy tale. The story was told humorously but what I loved the most was the way the heroine's character was etched. She was practical while being dreamy. A little Miss Sunshine. The name of the book is She loves me he loves me not by Zeenat Mahal.
I kept thinking about this book and felt if this were to be made into a serial, Sanaya would fit into the heroine's role so well. As for the hero, I thought Fawad would have been great but given that he is from a different country and it would be difficult to get a non-Indian to act in an Indian television serial, I am open to any guy who can act and looks good including but not limited to Barun.
That made me wonder if you guys have ever read a book and felt that if the book were to be made into a serial one of our leads (or both) would have suited a role to the T.

Guys, this is just a fun post. Please don't turn this into a fan war post. Remember, we don't have a mod.

Great post and good thought but honestly, I personally feel that movies or shows just ruin the charm that the book had. You read the book, you feel everything, you are basically living the life of the characters. You see what they see, you feel what they feel and that all without any dramatic effects and all.
I have read few books that were made into movies and am disappointed. I mean, yes, the movies weren't that bad but am disappointed on a personal level because shows and movies will never have the same effect on you if you have read the book.

Have you read the fault in our stars? I was so addicted to the book I read it all in just two days. It just felt so real. I had put myself into the skin of the character. And then I watched the movie and no offence - the actors did a fabulous job, it was really an excellent movie but it wasn't the same. And some of the most touching scenes were not even there in the movie. I liked the movie but still it was not the same as reading the book. Even today I open the book and just sometimes read my most favorite part to feel the anticipation again.

And speaking of turning books into shows, I would never ever wish any book that kind of Horror. I mean, just look at Indian TV, all the shows. Not even the worst book and worst author deserve that 🤣
I once read an article of I-F where they listed shows based on novels and I was like, shit. Feeling pity for the readers who have to bear their favorite books being exploited like this by the trp ridden Indian show business. I would like to give you an example: Yeh Hain Mohabbatein. We can't discuss about the show in here but I feel pity for both the book and the author😆

Btw, am not trying to start fan war or something. I know this is a fun post but I just would never wish books to fall prey to Indian showmakers. 😆

True...Indian tv shows and books don't really mix. But, one can always hope for some sensible show right?
I was actually impressed with the character more than anything. A strong FL and a ML lead who is grey without being back is missing in most shows. Oh well...
I just finished watching Riverdale and was blown away by the way they made that show...darker without really giving up on the integrity of the characters themselves. It was such cool writing. One of those times where they did a great job of translating a character from paper to the screen.
And nope...I don't consider your post a fan war inducing one at all...far from it 😉

Interesting post!
There is this novel Where Rainbows End by Cecelia Ahern, the author who wrote PS, I Love You. It has been already made into the movie Love, Rosie in 2014 starring Sam Claflin. I actually watched the movie before I read the book. It became one of my favourite romantic films, even beat The Notebook. I loved the book a tad bit more than the movie. Of course, some situations have been cut off from the film, but still it was a good adaptation with whatever they showed from the book.

I feel Sanaya would suit this role really well. Barun would do well in the role too, but again there are maybe other actors too who can fit into this role. Can't name anyone, since I don't watch any hindi soaps. I have only ever watched the DD serials of late 80s, early to mid 90s (because they were amazing with lovely storyline/plots and strong female characters unlike today's regressive ones), and IPK and Ek Duje Ke Vaaste from the contemporary times. Had it been the 90's, I would have recommended this book (or any book for that instance) to be made into a show, but nowadays, makers either butcher the story and characters in the race to please the trp audience, OR shows idiocy right from the beginning. Shows from early times which I have had watched as a kid had such strong feminists, women with virtues as well as vices. The concept of the vamp was still not invented that time, even negative characters were ones with shades of grey that had their own struggles to deal with. I have nothing against Ekta, but she is the one person responsible for damaging the golden era of Indian telly. Her so-called revolution in tv industry had destroyed meaningful shows.

This is the one:

wooo...that would be interesting. Though, Maximillian(I think thats the name) is supposed to be an older gentleman while the heroine is a naive young woman, I think we could change the story to be something like a somber younger widower falling for a happy-go-lucky young woman to suit Sanaya and Barun. Would definitely be interesting..

The female lead can be shown as getting arranged married before she could go to Boston with her friend, instead of getting pregnant by her boyfriend. Thus, her going to Boston fails. And the husband turns out as a jerk (the boyfriend in the book) and leaves her after she gets pregnant. The rest can be the same with little modifications to suit Indian audience.

Yes Indian tv would ruin even the best of best books. But I'd be really glad if there would be web series made with our most favorite books. Because I believe and hope they wouldn't ruin it.
I haven't watched Rivderdale yet but it's supposed to be good, so maybe one day in future. Netflix series are really good. I would trust Netflix to adapt my favorite books into wonderful shows

Nice post.
I dunno how many of you are wattpad (I'm seriously not promoting it)
If you have an account there I suggest to read the stories of Richa_Resa, Shakthi ( my one of favorite) and The writer of when the dawn breaks hell hath for women's fury. Shakthi one of the writer is most brilliant in writing on sociasocial issues where as the other Richa if you read her stories you will be too emotional.

And I really like to see SI roles like Dawn break (It's not completed).

I really people not only on IF but at different forums write the stories too beautifully that are really to be seen on Indian television. They have great talent and it makes me sad that these people cannot make it to our tv screens.
