Chapter 6

The morning came with great promises for dev. He was little spirited thinking about having sona around so he can know more about her. He was in his office when his assistant came to him.

Assistant~ "Dev sir..."

Dev~ "Yeah, yeah... send inside." He replied without hearing the whole sentence.

Assistant~ "Ok sir." He said and then sent the team inside.

Dev looked up and to his surprise it was his development team reporting to him to discuss some project details.

Girl1~ "Dev sir, we did some research and consulted some doctors we could reach out to. They gave some information but we are not sure if that helps us a lot."

Guy1~ "Yes sir, they surely gave information but not everything could completely relate to our work."

Guy2~ "What do we do now sir? Do we proceed with the information we have and do test runs and all to make it work?"

Girl~ "That is highly unlikely. We cannot go ahead and do test runs simply based on assumptions. It is not something you can use without knowing if it is safe or not. We will need to find some way."

It took dev a couple of minutes to recover from the fact that sona was not there yet but it was his development team. After recovering from his train of thoughts, he said "Yes, and I am trying to work that problem. If my trial doesn't pan out then I will think of some other way."

His team couldn't understand what he was trying to say but they thought it better not to ask. Just then dev's assistant came in again.

Assistant~ "Dev sir, there is a lady wishing to meet you. She says that you asked to meet."

Dev~ "Sure, send her in."

Assistant~ "Right sir."

Dev eagerly watches the door and sees that it was sona who enters.

Sona~ "Hello, Mr. dixit." But then she sees the team standing there then she pauses for a moment "I think I came at wrong time. I should probably come later."

Dev~ "No, no... Its perfect timing Dr. bose. I would like to introduce you to my development team. They are my most capable people who are working on the project I asked you to provide your knowledge and insight for." He then provided a brief introduction between them.

Dev~ "Please show Dr. bose what we are working with and ask her whatever we need for our project. Her presence will certainly help this project."

Once the team was out of earshot, sona approached dev and said "Mr. dixit, I haven't agreed yet that I will join your project."

Dev~ "I know, but you came... that I find very promising. I can assure you that the work we are doing here will be too hard for you to not be a part of."

Sona~ "I agreed to come only because my father told me that I should atleast give it a chance before thinking that like other companies who claim to be working on something for the people, they end up doing something opposite of their own claims."

Dev~ "Sorry, what?"

Sona~ "Oh nevermind. I will talk with your team."

Dev~ "Ok. I can take you to them."

Sona~ "That's fine. I will find my way. You must be having more better work to do than show me way to your team." She kept a stern stance.

Dev~ "Before you go... I want to ask you something. I have seen you nice and polite to people. Why this mask in my office? You will find it much easy to work here being yourself."

Sona stared at dev for a moment then eased her stance.

Dev~ "I get it... you are upset because I pulled you away from your patients, but think it this way... your potential is much more useful here in my office."

Sona~ "You barely know me, mr. dixit. So, whether my potential is of better use here or not... is something I should decide. Now, if you will excuse me... I have some people to talk to."

Dev~ "At least take my assistant with you. He can help you get used to this office." He calls his assistant as he said it.

Sona thought in her head "Such over confidence... and completely arrogant!"

Just then dev's assistant entered room and escorted sona to the development team. As they made their way, that guy tried to start a conversation.

Vivek~ "Its nice to finally meet you dr. bose. I have heard a lot about you."

Sona looks at him with surprise "You... have heard... about me?"

Vivek~ "Lets just say... not from the source you might think. But having me here will be something that would probably make you less stressed about your patient, that little girl."

Sona was now feeling curious about this stranger "Who are you?"

Vivek~ "My name is vivek... vivek pratap."

Sona~ "You wouldn't happen to be related to Arjun?"

Vivek~ "Quite right dr. bose. I m arjun's younger brother. Off the record, I call him AJ."

Sona~ "It's a surprise for me that you work here."

Vivek~ "It was surprise for me too when AJ told me that you might show up here. Well... he has offered to keep you informed about your patient. In case of any changes or problems... you will hear about it."

Sona~ "Awe... you didn't need to."

Vivek~ "Anything for you dr. bose."

Sona~ "You can call me sona. Feels weird hearing you say dr. bose everytime."

Vivek~ "If bro heard this... he would be so jealous!" he said it imitating his brother's possible expressions.

Sona~ "I didn't knew your brother could make faces like this?" she said smiling.

Vivek~ "He forgets that if you need to impress a girl, you need to embrace your jolly side." But then he sees sona's expressions and adds "Not that he would try to impress you. Just saying in general."

Sona~ "Hmmm... some girls would actually prefer a practical and serious type guy."

Vivek~ "Would that include you?"

Sona~ "Honestly, I don't really know as I never thought about it."

Vivek~ "I guess maybe you should. Makes it easy in case someday someone asks you. You know, whether they should wait for you or forget and move on."

Sona eyes him "Are you trying to hint me something?"

Vivek~ "Who, me?! Nah... just saying. You are pretty, caring and smart. That would make guys fall for you. For the good of those guys, consider this my humble request. You see, I m a bit of guys welfare supporter kinda guy."

Sona~ "Oh, right right. Well consider your request accepted and under review. I will reply to you about this when I have reached a decision."

Vivek~ "How generous of you."

There friendly conversation was at end when they finally reached the dixit group's research division lab where dev's development team was waiting for sona.

After a formal but very brief intro, vivek left sona with the team. Sona and the team talked about various effects... positive and negative... from being in the vicinity of waves generated by portable devices.

Sona~ "It is possible to change the waves emitted by portable devices like cell phones, but if I m right... wouldn't that has some other problems with its functioning? I m no engineer but I know that the device signals does face interferences. Also their signal interferes with some medical devices as well."

Guy1~ "You are right dr. bose. The signal waves are modulated in a way to allow them to be long ranged and face lesser interference. But this would mean that they cannot be so easily made to work with the sound waves as they have more interference as well as lesser range."

Sona~ "But don't think they have such low range... I mean we have seen effects like echo. In those places the sound travels long distance."

Girl1~ "But they are also high volume with close to no interference. You wont get that kind of effect in highly populated or plain areas."

Guy2~ "I think I get her point. You notice empty rooms? And how voice echos in those rooms? We can turn our signal towers to act as wave generator... something that can create a dome shaped room which catches the signals within its area. The signal can reflect from these virtual walls made by those wave generator. Then the signals can be modulated and sent to other tower then to the respective recipient."

Guy3~ "That might work and might not. Its all good in theory but... how would we even find out without testing it first. These virtual walls and stuff happens only in movies. Don't think it could be possible."

Girl1~ "Guys, this is why we are the research team. We have an idea... we work our best to see if it is even possible. I know a friend who is working on similar stuff but for concealing an area from satellite spying. We are going to simply invert its use."

Guy2~ "But would she... could she even release any of the project information?"

Girl1~ "She don't have to release any information. All she needs to do is point us in direction which can help our project."

Guy3~ "Worth a try."

Girl1~ "But it might need me to get in touch with her, which is hard as she is placed in a classified lab. We might have to wait for her to return before we can ask her anything."

Guy1~ "So basically we are back to square one."

Sona~ "Not necessarily. I have heard that you guys are one of the best teams. I didn't understand most of what you talked about but you guys certainly know enough to come up with something to get this project started. Like what basic system you need, what needs to be the theoretical parameters we need to have this echo thing to work, and so on."

Guy2~ "We do have some clues to that, yes."

Guy1~ "Then we can start testing it on the analyser first."

Girl1~ "Analyser is a computer program we use to input values and it will treat it as the base and test our theory." She told to sona.

Sona~ "Ok, and what does it help do?"

Guy1~ "It generates results which can be used to theoretically deduce whether it has any chance of working or no."

Guy2~ "Baiscally it is trial and error method... just cheaper, since we don't make it in real until we have some chance of its success. After we have that, usually it takes some modifications to get it to start working."

Girl1~ "Those modifications can take months or even years."

Sona~ "Oh."

Guy1~ "Its not full proof but it is still something to help the work done faster."

Sona~ "Alright. Where do we begin then?"

Girl1~ "Now she is sounding like us." She smiled.

Thus they all started to provide possible suggestions to build a virtual prototype and test it on the analyser.
