Chapter 1
A little girl is walking along side her mother. They crossed by the kids ward where she saw lot of kids with their family members... a nurse preparing injection for a little boy who was crying holding on to his mother... another girl who was on bed and seemed very sick...
Girl~ "Maa, yeh chote bachon ko kya hua hai?" Her innocence looked for answers that could provide her assurance that there is nothing to be afraid of.
Hearing the question, sona comes to her and sits in front of her. "Yeh chote bache udas hain, jis-se unke mommy papa bhi udas hain. Hum yahan bacho ki khushi unko wapas dilate hain."
Girl~ "To phir unki khushi kaun le gaya?"
Sona~ "Koi nahi le gaya... unki khushi unse kahin kho gayi hai. Hum bas uss khushi ko dhoond kar unhe wapas dilate hain."
Girl innocently looks at sona then asks again "Kya aap pari ho? Bacho ki khushi dhondna aur wapas karna to pariyoon ka kaam hota hai."
Sona~ "Aapko kya lagta hai?"
Girl~ "Mujhko lagta hai ki aap ek pari ho. Meri mommy ki khushiyan bhi dhoond ke laado na please."
Girl's mother, who was listening to the whole conversation, started crying. Sona tries to consol her and takes her to the check-up room. On inquiring, the lady informs sona that her daughter has a hole in her heart. She was suggested to consult a heart specialist at this hospital but she is afraid she cannot pay for medical care needed for her daughter.
Sona~ "Dr. batra is one of the best cardiologists I know. Let him study her medical condition. Hum treatment ke liye kitna paisa lagega, usski chinta baad mein karenge. Ok?"
Girl's mother~ "Par..."
Sona~ "Par war kuch nahi. Hum yahan logon ki jaan bachate hain, unki majboori ka fayda nahi uthate."
Girl's mother holds sona's hand and cries her heart out. "Maine dusare hospitals me bhi apni beti ko le kar gayi par paise ki kami ki wajah se doctors ne isska case lene se mana kar diya."
Sona~ "Please don't cry." She tries to help her but the lady was heartbroken. Sona turns around and notices a nurse passing by "Nurse, can you please check for me if Dr. batra is free right now or not?"
Nurse nods and leaves. Few minutes later the nurse informs sona that Dr. batra is free right now. Without wasting anymore time, sona takes the lady and her daughter to Dr. batra. Sona settles her on the chairs outside Dr. batra's cabin to wait while she talks to Dr. batra.
Sona~ "Dr. batra, can I take few minutes of your time?"
Dr. batra~ "Sonakshi, please come. What brings you here at this time?"
Sona~ "Few minutes ago, I met a lady and her daughter. From what she told me, her daughter has a hole in her heart. I was hoping if you would take a look at her condition and find out if there is anything we could do?"
Dr. batra~ "I can conduct some tests and find more about her condition. So what is the issue?"
Sona~ "Actually the mother is worried about the payment."
Dr. batra~ "That might be an issue. If the girl has a hole in her heart, you also know the treatment. But anything specific can only be said after full diagnosis. If it turns out to be something very severe, there might not be much we could do. But if there is a chance, we also have funds to help people like her."
Sona~ "So will you take a look at her case?"
Dr. batra~ "Sure, but do not expect me to lie to her to give her any false hopes. But if you ask me, money might not be such a big issue."
Sona~ "I understand doctor. That was not why she felt helpless, she felt helpless because some doctors denied to look at the girl's case as they felt that her mother might not be able to pay for the treatment."
Dr. batra~ "Well, i m free right now if she wants me to take a look at her daughter's condition and conduct some tests."
Sona smiles and brings the lady and her daughter in. Dr. batra takes some physical examinations and writes some medical tests to find more about her medical condition. A nurse escorts the lady and girl towards the examination building. Sona thanks dr. batra and is about to leave when he call to her.
Dr. batra~ "By the way Sona, you are joining the function tonight? We will have the important people who funds our care programs for the helpless and needy."
Sona~ "Since our care programs are helping kids like this girl... I wouldn't miss it." She replies as she leaves smiling.
At dixit corp. there was a board meeting being held over a new expansion that company was planning to proceed with by next month.
Dev~ "So I guess we have everyone's vote and this plan will set a steping stone that will take this company to even greater heights. Any questions?"
Board Member1~ "Your planning and execution is all well and good... but we know the current market state is not very stable. Would it be safe for us to spread our resources on this new venture?"
Dev~ "Sometimes we have to take risks if we want to reach a height. Our company has never aimed low and this leap will be worth it."
Board Member2~ "But this is not exactly the type of calculated risks you have taken so far."
Dev~ "I understand your concern that is why you were all asked to share your opinions. If you had so many doubts about this plan, you could have voted against it. If you have agreed, there must have been something that you saw."
Board Member3~ "It wasn't the plan that we all voted in favor of... it is for the man who is leading this expansion. We have seen your work Mr. dev and we understand what you are capable of. The board members have decided to trust the man leading the charge of this expansion, which is you. We all wish you the best for this venture."
The meeting was over and everyone returned to their work.
Dev reached in his office followed by his father.
Daya~ "Nice work with the presentation dev."
Dev~ "Thanks dad. I m glad that you liked it."
Daya~ "You always give your two hundered percent to everything dev. Who would not like your work? Me... I don't just like it, I love it. And so proud." He pats on dev's back.
Dev~ "Rest of the day is free. Do you mind if I go home?"
Daya~ "Hmm... let me guess. It has something to do with your sisters and their challenge from this morning?"
Dev~ "You know it. And that they love to take me on three-on-one."
Daya~ "And you still win half the time."
Dev~ "That is because I have a mole amongst the three."
The two of them share a good laugh about it.
Daya~ "Go ahead, go home and take a break. I will stay here in office for a little bit longer."
Dev~ "Thanks dad."
Dev picks up his stuff and is ready to leave. As soon as he reaches the door, his father calls out to him.
Daya~ "And dev, you might want to be ready for tonight's function."
Dev~ "Is it necessary for me to attend? You know I don't like to attend parties."
Daya~ "Its is not exactly a business party which you dislike. It is a function for a good cause. We are one of the top companies that donates money to life care hospital. They have care programs that helps those who cannot afford their loved one's medical care."
Dev~ "Care program that actually cares or just show off?"
Daya~ "Don't judge before you see it yourself."
Dev~ "Alright. I will come to this function tonight and see for myself how much this care program actually cares."
