Chapter 22
Dilshad snatched the papers out of Zoya's hand. She quickly read through the papers and looked up at her son. "Tumne Najma aur Imran keh divorce papers banaye hai? Itna baada faisla karne se phele ek baar mujhse poochna zaroori bhi nahi samja, she said, angrily. "Najma kehliye yehi sahi hai Ammi. Woh uss ghar mein, aise logo keh saath nahi reha sakthi, Asad sternly replied. "Par Asad, aapko Najma se toh pooch na chahiye tha keh usse kya chahiye? How can you just decide? Zoya said, still shocked that he had taken such a big step without consulting anyone. Gussa sir pe chadgaya aur yeh Mr. Khan ne kooch bhi kardiya, Allah miyan what's wrong with him, she thought. "Najma bacchi hai, main usse baat karonga, he said. "Najma bacchi nahi hai, someone said and they all turned to see Najma at the door. She had tears rolling down her face. Najma couldn't believe that her brother had decided such a important thing of her life without asking her, even once. Zoya saw her tear stricken face and she knew Najma was hurt. As she stepped forward, "nahi Zoya, aaj mujhe bhaijaan se baat karni hai. Kohi bheej mein nahi bolega, Najma said. "Tamatar, meri baat suno, Asad told her but she interrupted. "Aap mujhse phele baat nahi karsakthe bhai? And how could you? You made the divorce papers and didnt even bother asking me? Meri life ka itna baada decision, she said, hurt. "Main yeh sabh tumare acche kehliye karaha hoon Najma, try and understand, Asad tried to explain. "Mujhe kuch nahi samajna. Main yaha kitni khushi se wapaas aayi thi aapko paata hai. Imran ne mujhse maafi maangi aur mujhe wapaas aane kheliye kaha but aapne meri saari khushi khatam kardiya, Najma yelled. "Itna sabh hone keh baad bhi tum waha waapas jaogi? Asad said, shocked. "Bhai, main Imran se pyaar karti hoon, woh mere hone wale bacche keh baap hai. Mujhe nahi paata aap kehliye nikkhe jaise rishte ki kya hemiyat hai, meri liye yeh meri zindagi ka bahut important rishta hai. Maana keh paiso ki wajase humare beech problems thi but har rishte mein problems toh hoti hi haina. Iska matlab yeh thodi keh hum rishta khatam karde, Najma explained. Asad felt his eyes drift toward his wife hearing Najma's words. Zoya was focused on Najma and worried about her. "Fine Najma! But joh hua hai, Asad spoke when she intervened. "Joh hua hai woh galat hai. Aaj aapne mujhe bahut hurt kiya hai Bhai, aapko kohi haq nahi tha keh aap meri shaadi ka faisla kare. Main abhi yaha se jarahi hoon, mujhe yaha nahi rehna, Najma said, and quickly went up the stairs. Zoya saw Asad's face fill with agony as Najma disappeared from his eyes. Dilshad too had tears in her eyes seeing their children argue. "Main dekh thi hoon, Zoya said to no one in particular as she ran up the stairs.
Reaching the room, Zoya saw Najma packing her things. "Najma, tum yeh kya karahi ho? Meri baat suno, she said. "Nahi Zoya, aaj mujhe kuch nahi suna. It's better I just leave, Najma said, still angry. "Najma, Asad tumari fikar karte hai issliye unone itna baad faisla ley la. Tum jaanti ho keh woh gusse mein kuch bhi kardete hai, Zoya tried to explain. Najma stopped putting clothes in the suitcase and looked at Zoya shocked. "Why are you looking at me like that? Zoya asked confused. "I can't believe you are defending him? Najma said, upset. Zoya was surprised at herself. She was defending the Akdu Jahapanah? What was wrong with her? Did she hit her head on something recently? Zoya contemplated. She wasn't defending him, she was just...she didn't know. RIght now, it was important to stop Najma from leaving at this time of the night. "Bhabhi, main aapse baat karahi hoon? Najma said, breaking her thoughts. "Dekho Najma, main sirf yeh bol rahi hoon keh bahut raat hogayi hai. Iss halat mein aise jaana, it's not right. Just stay here for tonight and kal subhe we will figure it out. Please Najma, I request you, Zoya pleaded to her friend. Najma put the things down as fresh tears filled her orbs. Zoya moved forward and engulfed her in an hug. "I am sorry Najma. Main jaanti hoon that these past few weeks have been tough on you. Main Allah se dua karti hoon keh sabh theek hojaye, she said. As they broke apart, Zoya wiped Najma's tears, "Aur aabh toh sabh theek bhi hogaya haina. Imran se tumse maafi maangi aur tume ghar bhi bhula liya, she said happily. "I just hope aabh sabh theek hojaye, Najma said hopefully. "I am sure aisa hi hoga, dont worry, Zoya said, caressing her cheek. Najma smiled as she placed her hand on top of Zoya's. "Tum rest karo, main tumse baad mein baat karti hoon, Zoya said and left the room.
Coming back downstairs, Zoya searched for Asad everywhere but she couldn't find him. She felt worry fill her heart as her eyes continued to look for her husband. As she reached the backyard, Zoya found Dilshad sitting on the swing. Moving closer, Zoya saw the wet cheeks and red eyes. "Ammi, Zoya said, with an helpless voice as she took a seat and wrapped her arm around her. "Yeh sabh kya horaha hai Zoya? Aaj maine pheli baar Asad aur Najma koh aisa ladayi karte huwe dekha hai. Hamesha Najma Asad ki baat maanti thi kyun ki Asad uske liya khabhi kuch galat nahi sooch saktha. Lekin aaj, Dilshad said sadly. "Ammi, Najma aabh baadi hogayi hai aur uski ek alag zindagi hai. I guess Asad koh yeh samajne mein thoda time lagega, Zoya explained. "Ha beta, tum theek bol rahi ho. Paata nahi main kaise samjao dono koh, Dilshad said. "Ammi, Asad kaha chale gaye? Maine pura ghar doond liya, she told her. "Maloom nahi beta, jaisi hi Najma upar gayi maine usse baat karne ki kosish ki thi par woh bina kuch sune, chala gaya, Dilshad informed. "Chale gaye? Kaha? Zoya asked worried. "Usne kuch kaha nahi, she repeated. "Main unne phone karke aati hoon, I want to check if he is ok. Aap theek haina? Zoya said. "Main theek hoon, tum jao, Dilshad said with a slight smile. Zoya smiled back and left from there.
Zoya's hands were tired from dialing his number over and over again but she didnt get a chance to talk to her husband. She sat on the window pane looking out at the moon. "Yakeen nahi hota keh jin Mr. Khan keh naam se main door bhaag thi thi. Aaj main unke kehliye intezaar karahi ho, fikar se meri jaan nikli jarahi hai. Lekin mujhe bahut takleef hoti hai keh jab bhi kohi problem hoti hai toh Asad mujhse door chale jaate hai. Bina kuch kahe, unne aisa kyun lagtha hai keh main unne samaj thi nahi. Agar mujhe samajne ki kosish kare toh unne paata chal jayega keh main unne samjti hoon. But, I am not that lucky na. Mera rishta ek normal rishta toh hai nahi keh main aise expectations rako, she thought, as tears brimmed in her eyes. Her thoughts were interrupted with a knock on the door. Zoya composed herself and plastered a smile on her face. As the door opened, "Asad, his name slipped out of her lips. The next moment, her smile faltered. "Ammi, aayiye na, she said. "Sorry beta, Asad nahi main hoon. Aur main toh tumare liye coffee laayi thi, Dilshad said, walking in. Zoya and Dilshad took a seat on the sofa and Dilshad handed her the cup. "Thank you Ammi, this is really needed, Zoya said, taking a sip. "Soocha tha keh Asad aur Najma ki shaadi hojayegi toh mere dono bacche settle hojayenge. Lekin paata nahi Allah koh kya manzoor hai. Najma aur Imran keh beech problems chal rahi hai aur yaha tum aur Asad bhi, Dilshad worried. "Ammi, main aur Asad...hum theek hai. Aur aabh toh Najma aur Imran keh beech bhi toh problem theek horahi haina. Dont worry, jaisi hi unn dono keh beech understanding badegi toh sabh theek hojayega, Zoya consoled. She was concerned about Dilshad and her health. There were already enough problems going on, she didn't want Dilshad to worry about her and Asad as well. "Aur waise bhi Ammi, aapke Akdu bete koh mere ilava kohi aur handle nahi karsaktha, yeh baat koh aapko maan ni padegi, Zoya joked. Dilshad chuckled as she looked at the girl in front of her. Only Zoya could make her laugh at a time like this. "Hamesha paata hota na tume keh kabh kya bolna hai, she said, caressing Zoya's cheek. "Aabh aap fikar karna chodiye aur jaakar araam kijiye, main Asad ka wait karlongi, Zoya said. "Nahi beta, main tumare saath wait karti hoon, Dilshad replied. "Nahi Ammi, main theek hoon. Aap jayiye. Jab Asad aayenge, main aapko baataungi, I promise, Zoya said. Knowing how stubborn Zoya was, Dilshad agreed and left.
Hours passed and night turned into day but there was no sign of Asad. Zoya felt her heart sink with each passing second. And her mind's temperature rise at the same time. She couldn't believe how irresponsible he was! "And he calls me immature. Disappearing all night is such a mature thing to do, she thought. Her mind kept recalling the accident that had occurred when he had not returned home last time. "Allah miyan, please Asad koh theek rakna, she prayed. At that time, she saw the door open and her husband walk in. His shirt untucked, tie loosened, and his hair ruffled up. Zoya ran up to him. "Kaha the aap? Paata bhi hai keh kohi aapka yaha saari raat wait karaha hai? Aap kaise hai, kaha hai sooch sooch kar main pareshaan horahi thi, she yelled. "Chila kyun rahi ho Zoya? My head is already hurting, Asad said, pressing his temples. "Are you serious right now? Badh mein jaaye aapka sir, maan toh karaha hai keh aapka gala daba doon, Zoya said, getting mad. "Aur tume kya paadi hai? Main ghar aao ya nahi? he yelled back. She moved closer and grabbed his shirt collar. Asad looked at her shocked. "Paadi hai mujhe! Biwi hoon aapki, haq hai mera, she told him. He looked at her and the confidence that her eyes held. His lips slowly curved into a smile. "Aap haas kyun rahe hai? she asked innocently. "Aisa kuch nahi hai. Bas tume iss avatar mein khabhi dekha nahi toh, he replied, mischievously. Zoya realized what she was doing. The grip around his shirt loosened and she moved back. "Woh main pareshaan thi toh.., she mumbled. Asad shook his head, "pagal, he thought looking at his wife, who stood there mumbling to herself. "Main change karke aata hoon, Asad said. As he started to walk away, he felt his wife grab his arm. "Saari raat kaha the? Aap theek toh haina? Zoya asked, the concern evident in her voice. Everything that happened last night flashed before his eyes. Asad removed her arm from his and walked away, leaving a tensed Zoya behind.
He stood under the hot shower as tears pricked his eyes. Asad couldn't believe that the Najma that held his fingers and learned to walk, was now going against him. He was only doing what was good for her, like always. It was his duty to look out for her, wasn't it? Imran and his family had hurt her, they ignored her health then why did she want to go back to him? He didn't deserve her! When Asad returned to his room, he saw his wife waiting for him. She was sitting on the couch with his breakfast on the table. "Aapne kal se kuch nahi khaya, please nastha karlijiye, Zoya told him. "Mujhe bhook nahi hai. Aur waise bhi, mujhe office kehliye late horaha hai, Asad replied. "Aap kahi nahi jarahe hai, baitiye yaha, Zoya said. "Maine bola na keh mujhe jaana hai, Asad stated firmly. "Aur maine kaha baitiye. I said sit! she ordered. Having no choice, Asad took a seat next to her. Zoya waited patiently till he ate some of his omelet and finished his coffee. Asad was about to leave when she held his hand, stopping him. "Maine aapse kuch poocha tha Asad? she said. "Kya poocha? he said, confused. "Aap theek hai? she questioned. "I don't want to talk about it, Asad said. "Aap hamesha mujhse bhaag the kyun hai Asad? Hum dost haina, aur dost toh problems share karte hai. Aur aap hai keh ek choti si tension aur gayab, she said, Zoya tried hard to contain the tears but the pain was so much that they poured out against her will. "Tum kyun roh rahi ho, you haven't done anything wrong, he told her. It broke him inside to see tears in her beautiful orbs. And it was worse that he was the reason for them. "But mujhe aise kyun feel hota hai jaise maine hi kuch kiya hai. I know keh aap Najma koh lekar bahut fikar karte hai and you have every right to. But Asad, don't you think I have a right to know how you feel, Zoya said. Asad had no answer to her question. He needed to be alone! His pain was his and he didnt want to hurt her with it. "Mujhe akele rehna tha, Asad said. "Par aap akele nahi hai Mr. Khan, Zoya said, placing her hand on top of his. Asad was taken back by her words. Those few words meant a lot. No one has ever said that to him. But she did! His eyes met hers and he knew she meant every word. She wasn't going anywhere! Nothing scared Mrs. Zoya Khan, nor his anger nor any problems. "Kuch bolungi toh aap naraaz nahi honge na? Zoya wondered. Asad nodded negatively. She paused for a minute before continuing, "Asad, main jaanti hoon keh aapko Najma ki fikar hai aur honi bhi chahiye. Par hume yeh bhi accept karna padega keh woh aabh badi hogayi hai. Hum usse advice deh sakthe hai lekin uss par zabardasti nahi karsakthe. Humari marzi joh bhi hai, uski shaadi uske marzi se hi chalsakthi hai, Zoya explained. She hoped Asad will understand her point of view. She didn't want to make him mad but she also couldn't see him upset. Asad silently tried to understand what his wife had said. He moved closer and placed a kiss on her forehead. Zoya was surprised at his sudden action. She looked up at him wanting to say something but her throat went dry. She was at loss of words. "Mujhe office mein bahut kaam hai, main chaltha hoon, Asad said. Before Zoya could reply, she saw her husband disappear out the door.
At the hospital, the doctors discharged Imran, saying his life was no longer in danger. "Allah ka lakh lakh shukur hai keh mera beta theek hogaya, haseena said, caressing her son's hair. As the doctors left, Imran pushed her hand away. "Door rahiye mujhse, he said. "Aree, kya hua? Haseena wondered. "Mujhe acchi taara se paata hai keh aapne mujhe zeher diya tha. Kal aap hi laayi thi na khana mere liye? Imran accused. "Beta, meri baat toh suno, Haseena told him. "Mujhe kuch nahi suna, main yaha se phele police station jaunga aur complaint karunga aapke khilaaf, he said, angrily. "Tum apni ma ki khilaaf jaoge. Maine tumare liye yeh sabh kiya aur tum ho keh, Haseena said, hurt. "Mere liye kiya? Aap mere liye mujhe hi maarne chali thi, Imran said, still in disbelief that his mother had tried to kill him. "Tumna bilkul apne baap par gaye ho! Bewakoof, Haseena huffed. "Kya matlab? he asked, confused. "Matlab yeh keh tum joh harkat karkar aaye the uske baad tume lagtha hai keh Najma aur uske ghar wale tume maaf karte, humara pura plan paani mein beha jaata. Issliye mujhe kuch karna tha. Najma ka pyaar tumare liye phir se jaagana tha, Haseena told him. "Ammi, mujhe toh yakeen nahi hota keh aap itna kuch karsakthi hai, Imran said, impressed. "Tu bewakoof hosaktha hai, mera naam Haseena hai aur jab paiso ki baat aati hai toh main khabhi kohi galati nahi hone dehti, she said, proud of herself. "Aapko kya lagtha hai keh Najma wapaas aajayegi? Imran questioned, unsure. Haseena laughed, "tum fikar mat karo, kal maine joh hungama kiya uske baad Najma zaroor wapaas aayegi. Aur agar nahi aayi toh main usse aane rakungi. Akir Asad Ahmed Khan ki jayedat (property) ka sawaal hai, she said and Imran joined her laughing, happy that their plan was successful.
Breakfast was a silent affair in the Khan household that morning. Dilshad asked Zoya about Asad and she informed Dilshad that Asad had left for the office. As they finished, Najma was about to leave when Zoya stopped her. "Najma, ek baar Asad se baat karlo! Believe me, he cares for you a lot, she tried to console. "Zoya, I can't believe keh aap bhi mujhe nahi samaj rahi hai. Aur aap bhaijaan ki side ley rahi hai, Najma said, surprised. "Main kissi ki side nahi ley rahi hoon. Main bas tum dono keh beech ki misunderstanding door karne ki kosish karahi hoon, Zoya told her. "Yeh misunderstanding nahi hai Bhabhi, Bhaijaan ne sabh jaankar yeh kiya hai. Imran aur Ammi aate honge, main thodi dher mein chali jaungi, Najma informed. "At least Asad koh call karlo beta, Dilshad said. "I seriously can't believe it! Of course aap dono sirf Bhai ki side lenge. Woh toh khabhi galat nahi hosakthe, mujhe aap dono se kohi baat nahi karni, Najma said angrily as she walked away. "Ammi, yeh toh kuch sun nahi rahi hai, Zoya said, concerned. "Behtar hai keh hum yeh baat rehne de. Kuch din jaane doh phir main dono se baat karti hoon. Akir dono ka khoon ek hai, gussa aagaya toh kissi ki nahi sunte, Dilshad said, shaking her head. "Shayad aap theek bol rahi hai, Zoya said hopefully. A while later, Haseena and Imran arrived at the Khan household. "Saach mein, itni si baat thi aur Najma aur aap logo ne itna baada masla kardiya. Aise chote mote problems toh hote rehta hai shohar aur biwi, iska matlab yeh thodi keh rishta khatam hojata hai, Haseena taunted. "Ammi, jaane dijiye na, Imran said. "Ha beta, chodi diya hai maine. Asad ne tume itna kuch sunaya aur humne kuch kaha, Haseena stated. "Dekhiye Haseena bi, joh bhi hogaya hai, usse bhul jayiye. Aur hum bas yeh chathe hai keh Imran aur Najma khush rahe, aur kuch nahi, Dilshad prayed. "InshAllah, aisa hi hoga Ammi. Kyun Imran? Zoya said. "Of course bhabhi, he replied, putting on a fake smile. Soon, Imran and Najma left. Dilshad and Zoya prayed to the one above to keep Najma and Imran happy.
Days passed and Zoya noticed how quiet Asad had become. He would leave before she even got ready for work and come home late at night. Anytime she asked him why he was late, Asad had his standard reply of having too much work. She hardly saw him anymore. He was at the main office and she was at the IT branch. Zoya was trying to be patient but it was Zoya, her and patience weren't exactly best of friends. As the work day was coming to an end, Zoya dialed her husband's number but as usual it went to voicemail. She tried again but received the same response. Zoya called his office, "jee mujhe Mr. Khan se baat karni hai, she said. "Sorry, par woh abhi ek meeting mein busy hai, the secretary responded. "Main Mrs. Khan bol rahi hoon, mujhe abhi keh abhi unse baat karni hai, Zoya said. The authority in her voice made it clear to the secretary not to argue. "Ek minute mam, main sir koh baata thi hoon, she said. Minutes later, Zoya heard his stern voice on the other end of the phone. "Kya aap mujhe office se pick karsakthe hai? she asked. "Zoya, I am busy. Mujhe aate aate late hojayega, he replied. "Theek hai, main office mein hi rahongi, aap jab bhi ghar jarahe hai, pick me up, she told him. "Zoya, mujhe meeting mein wapaas jaana hai, tum ghar chali jao, he said. "Nope! I am going to wait here till you pick me up, no matter how late it is. Aur aap jaante hai Mr. Khan keh main kitni ziddi hoon, Zoya said adamantly and slam the phone down. "Main busy hoon, raho tum waha, he thought to himself. Asad returned to the meeting but his thoughts kept wandering to his wife. Would she really wait for him? "No she would have gone home, it was late, his mind replied. "But you know that it's Zoya we are talking about, his heart reminded. "Dammit! Yeh ladki na. Rehna tha toh rehti office mein, mujhe kyun phone kiya tha, he wondered. The meeting ended and an impatient Asad sped towards the IT office. It was already late and he was worried that she was alone. Walking in, he saw her working on the computer. "Ziddi hai yeh ladki aur, meri baat sunle toh din raat mein na badal jaye, he thought. Asad walked towards her office and barged in. "Tum pagal hogayi ho! Maine kaha na keh ghar jao, he said angrily. "Aur maine bola tha keh main nahi jaungi, she replied back in the same tone. "Chalo, ghar jaana hai, Asad said, as he grabbed her arm and pulled her up. Zoya fell forward on his chest, as her hands grabbed onto his shirt, his arm went around her waist. She felt like her heart would jump of her chest, it was a total possibility at the rate it was beating at the moment. Zoya stepped back and took a seat again. "Nahi Mr. Khan, itni bhi kya jaldi hai. Aap phele naraaz ho lijiye phir hum aaram se ghar chale jayenge, Zoya said sarcastically. Asad felt anger surge through him but he knew he had to control it. If not, he would hurt her again. "Tum chathi thi keh main aao and I am here to take you home, he stated. "Ehsaan karahe hai aap mujhpar? Pyaar se boliye phir soochongi, Zoya replied. "Zoya, I have had a long day. Let's go! he said. "Asad, phele toh aap paata nahi kitne dino se gayab hai. I don't ever see you and jab milte hai toh theek se baat nahi karsakthe, Zoya said, sadly. Asad knew what she was saying was true but he knew if he agreed with her, then she would kill him with her words. "Main office keh kamo mein bahut busy tha, issliye tume time nahi deh paaya. Aabh chalo bhi, he requested. "Akdu keh Akdu hi rahenge, ek sorry hi bolna hai par nahi yeh sorry thodi bol sakthe hai, she mumbled to herself. "Kuch kaha tumne? Asad asked. "Nahi Jahapanah, chale? Zoya said, upset. "What? Jahapanah? Asad said, surprised. Zoya realized what she had just called him. "Pagal Zoya, itna bol na zaroori hai, she silently scolded. Asad was supposed to be angry but seeing his wife's cheek turn red, made his lips curve into a smile. He moved closer and took her hand in his. "If I say sorry, toh tum khush hokar ghar chalogi? Asad whispered. Zoya's jaw dropped. Asad Ahmed Khan had just apologized to her? Was this a dream? Did she fall asleep tired from work? "Yeh saach hai, Asad said, as his fingers tapped her mouth closed. "I can't believe that this just happened, Zoya said, with a grin. "Aabh toh tum ghar chalogi? he questioned and a happy Zoya nodded her head in agreement.
Zoya couldn't stop smiling. She couldn't believe what her husband had done, that too for her. Focus Zoya, you have to talk to Asad, her brain reminded. "Mujhe aapse baat karni thi, she said, breaking the silence in the car. "Ha bolo, Asad said, his focus still on the road. "Mr. Khan, aap pichle kuch dino pareshaan hai aur main jaanti keh yeh Najma ki wajase hai, Zoya said. The car came to a screeching halt and they both jerked forward. He was about to leave the car, Zoya held his wrist. "Asad please, gussa mat kare. Aap kuch na bole, main jaanti hoon keh aap pichle kuch dino se apna saara time kaam mein issliye spend karahe hai kyun ki aap Najma kehliye pareshaan hai. Par kabh tak, she asked. Zoya saw his body become stiff and the pulse race against her fingers. "Mujhe uss baare mein kohi baat nahi karni, he said. "Asad please, gussa mat kariye. Main bas itna bol rahi hoon keh aap kabh tak aise naraaz rahenge. Ek baar aap shanti se Najma se baat karle. Ya shayad aapko Imran se baat karni chahiye, I mean uss din joh bhi hua. Aur aapko yeh bhi paata chal jayega keh uske aur Najma keh beech problems kyun chal rahi hai, Zoya suggested. Asad thought about Zoya's words for a moment. "Main kal baat karonga, he replied. Zoya was stunned. It took her a few minutes to recover. "Toh aap kal baat karenge? Saach mein? she asked, making sure. Asad nodded, and Zoya clapped her hands in joy. Feeling his eyes on her, she stopped, "woh bas I am happy, Zoya mumbled as she stopped and sat back in the seat properly. He just shook his head and started driving again. That night, Asad and Zoya had a peaceful sleep. Zoya, because she had spoken to him and tried to solve his dilemma. The fact that he had taken her advice and agreed to talk to Imran and Najma gave her reassurance to fight for this relationship. There was still hope, and that was enough for Zoya. Asad, because somewhere deep down he felt like everything was alright. He had been so worried about Najma and how to deal with the whole issue. But today, because of her, all his problems seemed to vanish. When he opened his eyes in the dark night, Asad saw his wife's radiating face under the moonlight. He smiled as his hands caressed her cheek. She mumbled something as she snuggled closer to him. Asad felt her warmth against his chest, his arm went around her on its own accord. Somewhere, his heart knew that this was perfect, like it was meant to be. They both failed to notice the vibrating phone on the sofa, that flashed with Akram's name.
