So , I don't know what exactly happened there ...
Sati had a love marriage against her father's wishes ? Did she actually have to choose Shiva over Father ? .. Like how did the convo go there ? .. And then she just arrives at Yagna uninvited & expected to be greeted by the father in question ? .. Hmmm , paints Sati in such a poor light ... If she can be bold enough to marry out of love , why did she expect to continue to be her father's daughter, she knew what she was singing up for , didn't she ? ..My knowledge may be corrupted with some of the atrocious TV serials episodes but Sati's side of argument didn't make any sense to me .. She wanted to have her cake & eat it too .. Not fair for a goddess ..đł.. Especially , a goddess of sacrificial love & all other virtues , doesn't quite add up ..Kindly enlighten ..

^^ Chitra ... Thank You So Much for that ! .. Beautifully explained .. So, Sati never broke ties with her family to be with Shiva , Daksha agreed for the marriage , although a bit grudgingly .. But now , Sati's side of the story makes so much sense .. Once again thank you for that .. :)
Hello luv, No worries, you are more than welcomeYes he agreed, he had to as it was instructed to him by his father BramhaSati was a great devotee of Shiva, she never ever met him , only heard about him and vowed to herself that she would only marry him. ( Shiva ko pati maan liya ) and obviously so as she is truly his shakti ( his creative force )Now coming to Shiva-Daksha .. Hmmm ... I can understand why Shiva undid the moon curse of Daksha , but the part where Shiva ( as one of the Tridevs ) didn't greet Daksha like a son in law should have makes Shiva seem a bit high n mighty .. Sati may have never known about it but I wonder whose side Sati would have taken , had she known about it .. đyes With moon , Chandra represents the mind , the emoting capacity of an individual. So if the EGO ( daksha ) plans on destroying the emotional abilities of a person it will end up making us cold hearted , emotionless. Hence why Shiva undid the curse. From a worldy perspective, moon is essential for life on Earth to sustain even scientifically so. He plays a very important role along with Sun to sustain life. So Daksha was simply blinded by EGO and went on a rampant to destroy anything or anyone who defied him. So hence also why Shiva undid the curse.Shiva did not stand up as he is the TRIDEV first and then a Son in law. How do i explain this , HMMM !!! in simple words ,Shiva is older than daksha. He is anant and has existed since time immemorial. So how can he stand up and bow his head.In hindu culture, elders only give aashirwad, they will never bow down or touch the feet of youngsters Isn't it !! as this is meant to bring ill luck and even reduce the life of the younger person. So hence why Shiva doesn't get up. He is elder than Daksha , both by age and also by position. He is a god, Daksha is a human, how can god pay respect to a human. Daksha however chooses to misinterpret this,Daksha is a very knowledgable person, He is param gyaani . but his ego has blinded him to the real reason behind Shivas behaviour and he chooses to take offence and get the wrong end of the stick.---------I wonder what makes the makers of mytho shows think that their atrocious version is better than what is already available in the ancient scriptures ? đ .. The real version has all the drama + so much more sense which would undoubtedly fetch the same TRPs if not more .. Its like they are on a mission to ruin all good things ..coz I don't see any other justification for what comes alive on the small screen ..TBH , to make any mythological show , one needs to have a sense of immense bhakti in them. But these days there is pressure of making it on the TRP charts. So no disrespect to the audience, but a show like Kyun ki etc and many others even now have been around for yrs and yrs together only showing the same old saas bahu madness. However shows like Mahabharat only lasted for about 18 months. To tell the story of the great epic ( the largest in the world) in just 18months is not enough, But kya kare , TRPs were not good enough apparently.I dont think people want to watch the real story , koi mazaa nahi hai. Its pointless to show Sati as a bhakt doing severe penance, but its exciting to see her being saved by Shiva and then she faints in his arms and then he carries her around and caresses her face.I am liking that too, As shiv shakti is also about love and union. But yes i agree they need to stop taking too many creative liberties and start focusing more on the stories as intended by the scripture.Do feel free to ask questions, i ll try and answer to the best of my abilityCheers, Chitra

Hi ,i am not an expert in the ancient puranas, I do not focus so much on the story itself and rather believe in trying to understand the subtle spiritual symbolism in these stories.Yes the makers of this show have taken a few creative liberties, but i am still enjoying it nevertheless. Now coming to your question. Sati was born to Daksha as a result of a lot of austerities and penance towards the Adi para Shakti. Daksha worshipped the great mother and begged her to be born to him, to which she complied.Shakti is the inseparable creative force of the Supreme Shiva. So eventually the aim of sati is to merge back with her Shiva. She plans on marrying Shiva from a young age, based on the tales and knowledge imparted to her by great sages like Narada and Dadhichi.Shiva is an ascetic and not interested in marriage. So Sati goes thru severe penance and austerities to appease shiva. He finally relents and agrees to the Marriage.Daksha is not impressed with Shiva as Shiva is an ascetic, a rogue , a rebel who has no care or concern for the traditional orthodox order , that Daksha has laid out for the universe. But he nevertheless agrees to the wedding at the insistence of his father Lord Bramha. So therefore, no sati doesn't fight or go against her fathers wishes in order to marry shiva as shown in the show . He agrees to it but unhappily.Later at a yagna conducted by Bramha , Daksha too is invited, he arrives late. Daksha is a powerful person and hence blinded by EGO. Everyone gets up to greet him, except for the TRIDEV. Daksha is willing to accept the fact that Bramha remained seated as he is his father ( hence higher than him ) . Vishnu doesn't stand as he Dakshas aradhya ( hence also is higher than him) , but Shiva is his Son in law and hence lower than him and should have stood up. Daksha takes offence to Shivas behaviour and thinks that shiva has insulted him on purpose.Aslo a some point in the story, Daksha curses Moon ( also his son in law ) to vanish. But shiva overrides this curse and transforms it into the waning and waxing of the moon. Again Daksha is angered by Shiva and thinks that the latter intends to insult and challenge his authority. While Shiva was only just trying to maintain the order of the universe by saving Moon.Hence Daksha plans on the grand Bhrigu Yagna with the sole purpose of insulting Shiva by not inviting him.Sati on the other hand , wants to attend as it is at her fathers house. As any loving daughter she too feels that maybe he forgot to invite her or probably didn't invite her as a daughter does require an invitation to visit her parents. She turns up at the yagna only out of the sheer love she has for him. Also since she is the great adi shakti herself , she is the personification of pure love. But Daksha insults her and Shiva as planned. The so yagna would never have been completed without the presence of shiva anyways, Rishi dadhichi is the first to remind daksha of his foolishness and is the first to walk out of the yagna.Sati turns up out of luv to explain to her dad that his yagna will be futile if he didn't invite shiva. I am sure any daughter would do that. We would want our parents to be happy and prosperous irrespective of our marital status.I remember my grandparents, once organised a pooja and my mum and my aunts ( without having been invited ) helped them with the pooja. If you think about it, it seems ridiculous and extremely formal if we started expecting our parents to send out a formal invite to us after marriage. Like as tho now we officially dont belong to their family. However my grandparents did invite my dad and his family.I am sure if they had not invited my dad and his parents, my mum too would have been very cross with her parents, just like sati was, Its very human like and sati was a human. She never ascended to become a Goddess.Married or otherwise, Parents can speak to us anyhow they please and we never take offence, only because they are forever our parents.Sati ( or rather Adi Shakti ) eventually takes offence when Daksha crosses the lines of decency and hence why she decides to destroy the bond with Daksha by destroying her body. She will forever be Shivas shakti, but from that day on she ceases to be Dakshaayani. There is a lot of symbolism to this story which i have tried to explain in another post . Pls read the link below if you are interested to know more about it.http://www.india-forums.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=4884557&PID=143502105&#p143502105I hope my answer helpsThanks ,Chitra
