Yes, the failure of love stories is affecting SRK for sure as that is what he is primarily famous for. That being said, I don't really want to see SRK in a love story anymore, and definitely not the ones that BW makes now nor with any of the current heroines. I don't think there is anything left for SRK to explore in this genre anymore or add to either...and if there is anything left, I don't think there is the talent to make it. He can do it well, but it is terribly unexciting for me personally. Of course there is no one else to hand over the baton to either.
I think SRK has pigeonholed himself. His own tastes are vastly different but he has convinced himself that no one wants to see that from him..nor is it possible to make. Hence, he can't figure out what the audience wants because HE himself doesn't know what he wants. On top of that, he has definitely lost his competitive spirit which is even sadder than his movies flopping. People can keep calling him egoistic, but there is a marked change in the last few years. SRK used to have a " Oh You think I can't do it? I'll prove you wrong even if it's the last thing I do" attitude all his life. Now it's like oh I'll do whatever you tell me to. I don't know if its because of an attempt to have good relations so his children find it easier or what.
Highway was made by Imtiaz as a TV show well before he made it with Alia, so that is why it might have been better than the atrocious messes Imtiaz has made since SNT/JWM. Everyone wants to make "different" or "out of the box" love stories...well in trying to be different, they forget the love story.
Sairat is lovely!! It's a very been there done that story, but man it's terated so well...After ages I cared about the characters and wanted them to have a happily ever after. I couldn't tell you that last BW movie where I cared about the lovers and with such wonderful acting. Ok Kanmani is also a fun movie really enhanced by able direction and strong, compatible actors. Nithya is fabulous. I don't care for SRK and any of the younger heroines he works with...all forgettable pairs in equally forgettable movies. Aamir's big successes are essentially the same type of story -- social dramas with a dose of humor, but he focuses on making sure there's enough emotions and characters to root for. Akki has adapted this format as well.

Anyways back to topic now. 😆
