Why would they show this...When the real custom wasn't this.
They are showing a custom/ritual which was in use in Rajasthan and probably is still in use in Royal families. They do not promote child marriage nor glorify it.(there's a disclaimer for it) This serial is not going off air no matter what some section of people say. At least not for some months. Why?
It has generated publicity just by its promos and I'm sure any kind of publicity will help it gain eyeballs.
Main reason is it's story and the base of it. Diya sacrifices her life by marrying ,for saving Ratan from his family who want to kill Ratan for his money and property(usually these plots happen in Royal families for snatching property) as this would make her legally associated with Ratan ans this way she can be with him as his guard/protector. The child Ratan is just fascinated by a story and has a crush over Diya, nothing else. Of course some things in the show was not shown rightly but not everything is bizzare and it's a fictional story at the end of the day.

Legally Diya's position would not hold. No court in our country recognizes child marriage. The makers need to bend a lot of things to make this credible. One complaint from Diya's relatives to concerned authorities and poof goes the marriage.
But I know , logic does not work on Indian television. It's not with this show alone. Logic is a rarity as a whole.
As for the argument of accepting it as entertainment, again it's different with each of us. I am not willing to accept absolute nonsense in the name of entertainment. I wish this trend of senseless shows would end. But I also accept that there are people who like this.
PS: The signature I use are of a show I consider senseless from a production house with a long run of such shows. I like the couple and the actors hence the signature.

It's garbage. Under no circumstance does anyone get married to a year old. In this case, the girl is wrong. Do you people know what a marriage is?
Marriage is not a vehicle to be used to protect someone from their family. She can kidnap him, she can pretend to enter the house as maid, she can marry another family member, etc... making the story even more realistic or accepted.

Getting married to a 9 year old is utter stupidity and clearly shows the desperation of the producers to make money. if they are so desperate they can make child po*n and put it on an adult channel and make more money. Take this off SONY.

No way will I let my children expose to this nonsense traditions being practices in India and the rest of the world. Even barbarians had rules...

cut and paste from another post:

Balika Vadhu portrayed ball vivah as an evil and showed how the illegal marriage affected the young protagonists who eventually married different persons. ( But typically even this show deteriorated and became unwatchable post an unwanted leap.)

Here they seem to be romanticising it. The promos showing the kid filling an older woman's maang with sindoor was atrocious to say the least. Worse, the woman was overwhelmed by the gesture.

Child marriage is evil and illegal and there is no way it can just become an entertainment. Every year police crack down on mass child marriages in Rajasthan and rescue the child brides. That the corrupt practice continues is no justification for it.

I wonder if channels know that they are glorifying an act that is against the law of the land. I do hope the makers redeem themselves by showing that the adult groom decides he wants out of it, and the girl finds someone of her own age.

TV is really plumbing the depth. Before anyone tells me not to watch the show, I don't. The wretched, non-stop promos keep popping up. And I was horrified when I figured what they were showing.

What if the child was an infant?. Would she still marry him? What if it was the reverse? A few months old baby girl being married to a 20 year-old adult. Would we still think it is fine?

Worst part is people making ATs and romanticising this crap!
Like ewww 🤢
These romantic scenes are not innocent and cute, but cheap and pukeworthy, people!

Producers and actors can fall to any level to earn money. As someone rightly said before, start showing sexual scenes between the woman and the kid.. more trp would follow.

They showed that LAW won't permit Diya to adopt the kid. But the same LAW won't bat an eyelid if she goes ahead and marries the kid? She's f**king up the mental state of a kid. She should be locked and beaten up in jail for that.
Anyway, the best they can do now is show that DIya falls in love with that Suyyash Rai character and how her complicated marital status causes problems in her love life. But i doubt they would go that way. They, and certain 'fans' love paedophilia.

Balika Vadhu had no paedophilic angle. Both were kids. Both had no idea what was happening. Here, a grown up woman is shown conciously getting married to a kid! Upar se it is getting justified! BV never justified it. Not once. Coz such crap can't be justified. From the very first episode, BV was AGAINST child marriage. They showed the harmful consequences of such malpractises. In this show, something different altogether is happening.
