I've been catching up with some Bollywood films lately. So I decided to watch Raabta. I knew the reviews were pretty bad but I like the leads so I decided to give it a chance.
People aren't kidding when they say this movie was one of the worst films of this year so far.
The story- Hardly anything to it. Three people entangled in a half-baked love triangle from one era get reincarnated and then boom, same thing happens again. We've seen reincarnation dealt with in an entertaining ways like Karan Arjun, Om Shanti Om, Magadheera etc. Speaking of which, this movie was supposedly a rip-off of Magadheera, although unlike the latter, it doesn't have the magnificent storytelling and intertwining of the past and present.
Dialogues- All cringeworthy. Almost sound like no effort was put in.
Music- I liked Ik Vaari Aa, but the rest was forgettable. Though I liked Deepika's appearance in the title track(this girl is gorgeous!) but her lip-syncing was so distracting.
Acting- I usually like Sushant, but his acting was just so bad. He was trying to pull off the charming casanova image we see Saif play many times, but unlike Saif, he doesn't show the same charisma. Jim was so great in Neerja, yet his performance here falls flat and his dialogue delivery made me raise my eyebrows. Kriti played her part well. I believe this girl has something, but she needs the right the film to showcase her talent and this wasn't it.
Overall, Raabta will not connect to you at all. Not to its characters, story, nada. I'm gonna go watch Om Shanti Om again.
