Naren Vyas could not understand what just happened to him in the kitchen! Last night, he had done the most unthinkable thing, even for himself. True, he has always been the impulsive sort, but actually marrying someone on an impulse was something that even he had not expected from himself. And that too, with Pooja! Pooja who was his best friend, his confidante and someone he respected immensely.
Tragedy had struck Pooja's life when Anand's dead body reached the mandap. But Naren was not thinking about anything else at that time, except for the fact that his Pooja was getting badly and wrongly abused by Anand's mom and his relatives and she could not do anything to exonerate herself. And when he tried to help her out by trying to reason with that demented lady, Pooja herself had stopped him by saying that he had no rights over her. Only God knows what got into him at that time and he did the only thing he could think of. Applying his blood as sindoor in her maang! He could not tolerate anyone saying bad things about his Pooja.
His Pooja... yes...she was only his... He could not understand his own need for her. Yes, he had always needed her...But now his need for her, to have her around him, to see her smiling, to see her in front of his eyes always was so strong, that it shook him literally!
"Why can't I see her unhappy? Why can't I think about anything else beside Pooja? Why can't I see her tears? Why can't I see her getting abused by anyone? Why do I need to see her in front of my eyes always? Why do I have to protect her with my life? Why is she so important to me?
There were so many questions running through his mind since several days, when Pooja was all set to marry Anand and he himself was marrying Surbhi. But he was not happy! He was doing all this just because Pooja had asked him to, and he also believed that Anand loved Pooja and Pooja also wanted to marry him. Naren had really liked Anand but he was not happy. He was dying internally with each passing day, and the thought that was killing him, was this, that HIS Pooja would no longer be his. She would belong to someone else!
Now that he had married her last night, he just could not understand his own feelings. He was sad over Anand's death and Pooja's helplessness, but there was an inner joy that his heart was bursting with. He chided himself for feeling that way, but he could not control, nor ignore the peace that was spreading in his dying heart. It was like a salve on his bleeding heart. HIS Pooja was now truly His! And not for a day,or a month,or a year. She had become his for the lifetime, and all other lifetimes that were to come. And this joy of her presence and their altered and permanent togetherness made him want to do things that he never ever dreamt to do with a girl! Last night he did the kangan rasam for her, he held her in his hands and they had fallen asleep in each other's arms. Even when she tried to move away from him in the morning when he was asleep, he could not tolerate that! His need for her was growing at a very alarming rate and he just could not help it!
Since morning he had not been able to contain his happiness to have her near him! While making tea for her, he could not stop himself from staring her. That resulted in the most disastrous tea he had ever had the misfortune of having! But their usual banter and her mere sight was giving him such a pleasure that he could not stop himself from smiling!
He had been roaming around her since morning, when she was doing her rasoi rasam and all. And just a while ago, he had touched her in a way he had never ever touched her before. It left him totally confused! He was doing things that he never knew he could do to any girl. He wanted more to do with His Pooja now...
Supriya had been watching her son all morning. She knew that Pooja loved him, but she was not sure about the exact nature of Naren's feelings for Pooja until now. She knew that something used to change in Naren when he used to be with Pooja. He used to become soft, vulnerable and very possessive for her. He used to become more approachable when Pooja used to be around him. That was the reason why she would have loved to make Pooja her bahu. But then things changed for Vyas family with Bhola babu and Surbhi's entrance in their lives and she had to settle with the idea of making Surbhi her bahu. But on the sangeet, when she found out Pooja's letter and that she loved her son, Supriya could not help herself from praying to the Lord to have mercy on her children and to bring them together somehow! And now, her wish had come true and Naren had married Pooja and had brought her home. The whole family was against this alliance, but Supriya knew that it was the best thing that could have happened to her son. So she was very happy and she knew that Naren's feelings were very strong towards Pooja. He himself had said that his whole love was with her ,in front of everyone! Supriya was the happiest person at that moment because she knew that this declaration of love from her son was beyond any promise. It was an oath in itself!
She had been watching Naren moving around Pooja all morning, making her conscious, happy and shy- She had not seen her son so happy ever, either. So she decided to make things more smooth for both of them. She called the decorators and ordered them to decorate Naren's room beautifully. Then she called Pooja and told her to get ready for an ultimate suhaag raat!
After that she called Naren in her room. When Naren came there, he found her sitting with a small wooden box.
"What happened maa? You called me here? Did papa say anything to you again? he asked.
"No beta, your papa is not home since morning. I called you here because I want to share a couple of things with you. Look at this box. Open it!.
Naren opened the box and found a very beautiful diamond ring inside. "What's this ring for ,maa? he asked.
"Beta, this is not an ordinary ring. Your papa gave it to me on our first wedding night. This is a small diamond ring and he gave me more valuable jewels after that in all these years, but this one ring holds a very special place in my heart. I can not forget the way he slid this ring on my finger and no matter how many years have passed, that one night remains special to me till date. Similarly I want you to make Pooja's first night very special, for both of you, for all the years to come. I also know beta that Pooja has just come over the death of her fiance, but you are her husband now. I know that you love her,Naren. You may not have really understood your feelings for her yourself, but I am your mother. I know that what you feel for her is the purest form of love. Beta don't lose more time in making different assumptions by your mind. Just follow your heart. It will lead you where you need to be!
Naren took her hands with love and adoration, kissed them, and then thanked her for making things so clear and smooth for him again. He then got up and left the room with a smile on his lips and happiness in his heart with the acceptance of what it had all been about all the while!
When he entered his room, he got amazed to see the room lit with small diyaas and his bed covered with rose petals. There were roses in vases here and there and his simple bed was canopied with flower garlands. In the center of the bed, was the person who made him weak and strong at the same time! Pooja was sitting in the center of the bed, wearing a beautiful lavender colored lehenga, her head bowed down and her dupatta acting as a veil. He could not see her face, and suddenly his need to see her smile took over his senses and he started moving towards her. When she sensed his nearness, she became conscious again, and fidgeted a little. Her small movement was not lost to Naren. He sat beside her and took her hands in his own. They were cold, but they were making him feel a warmth that felt like seeping through his entire being. He lifted her veil and her blushing face just stopped his heart! He just couldn't stop his hand from moving towards her face. He needed to caress her! She blushed some more due to his caress and that was the most beautiful sight for Naren Vyas! He took out a small box from his pocket and held her hands, and said in a very somber tone,This is for you Pooja. Pooja looked up at him and saw the box he had put in her hands. She looked at him again and asked, What is it,Naren babu?
"This is the truth of my feelings for you, Pooja, he said.
She opened the box with shaking fingers and a racing heart, and found that it contained a beautiful Mangalsutra! She looked at him with love and some questions in her eyes.
"Pooja, I married you in a very unconventional way. But I didn't marry you to fulfill a promise for your protection to Anand, nor did I marry you because you had no other option. I married you because my heart told me to do that. I married you because I need you. I need you in every moment of my life. My heart had died a thousand deaths when you were marrying someone else. But now my heart is beating again. You are beating in my heart Pooja. It's your name that comes in and out with every breath I take. I need you by my side always. I need you in front of eyes forever. My need for you is so strong that I cannot control it anymore. This Mangalsutra is not a mere ornament. It's a promise from me to you that I will be around you always like this Mangalsutra will be around your neck. I will be as near to you as this Mangalsutra will be. This is a promise that I will cherish you and honor you always with my life. This is a promise Pooja, that I will love you till the last breath in this lifetime! . He moved closer to her and took off her dupatta from her head and removed the maang teeka and kissed her forehead. Then he removed her earrings and kissed her earlobes one by one. He whispered in her ears,Mere muskurane ki wajeh tum ho Pooja, mere gungunane ki wajeh tum ho. I can not live without you! Pooja's heart was racing and her face was getting warm and red.Naren came closer to her neck, and removed her locket. He then took out the Mangalsutra from its box and tied it around her neck. The brush of his fingers on her skin tingled her in a very unique way. And then his lips were on her neck, where her pulse was racing. And he said, I am all yours Pooja, just as my Mangalsutra is all yours now!
And Pooja just simply drowned in that caressing velvety voice and the sensations her Bholay bhalay Naren babu had so effortlessly aroused in her!
