Love.
Within four letters, the simple sounding word held an immeasurable amount of meaning and history. Wars fought, nations crumbled, and lives lost all in the name of this simple and unassuming...notion? Idea? Feeling? An indescribable mix of so many other things that it becomes both synonymous and uniquely original.
A young woman will have experienced many different variations of this word within her life. Some variations would be unique to her, while other variations would be experienced by all alike. Some variations would be acceptable, while others would be entirely forbidden.
This too, was a variation of love that many young women experienced and today, one Gauri Kumari Sharma (Gauri Omkara Singh Oberoi, if you asked the young woman in particular) was partaking in happily.
This love that she had, that she harboured so secretly in her heart was thrilling and sensational. In the dark months of her life, in the ups and downs, the drama and never ending mental battles, this small shred of love was her lifeline.
If anyone ever found out, she would deny it till the day she died. After all, the only man in her heart should, and could, only be her husband one Omkara Singh Oberoi. However, even she knew that now she had to make another space in her heart. Try as she had, she had lost herself to another deeply, passionately, and swiftly.
Gauri settled up her back against the couch, sitting on the floor. Drawing her knees to her chest she shyly smiled as she drank in his handsome features. It was later in the night and everyone had gone to sleep, that was when she stole away from her room and quickly made her way to her destination.
The pregnancy drama had fulfilled its purpose. Bua Ma's insanity and need for help was proven, and the Oberoi family had taken actions to have her admitted somewhere she could receive the help she needed, while not harming anyone. The last few days had been a whirlwind, and now the family was settling back after this chapter had closed in their lives. For now, she was unaware of where she stood within the family, but this was not the time to think about it.
Heart thudding against her chest, she sipped at her tea, as his brilliant smile brought a blush to her face. The creaking of the door behind her caused the thudding to come to a stutter and she sprang up, facing the individual who came in.
Anika stared at her, before eyeing the man in the background. She slowly came in, shutting the door behind her.
"Gauri... she said quietly, striding towards the young woman.
The young woman winced, avoiding eye contact with the woman she considered a sister.
"I'm disappointed in you... Anika said solemnly. "I didn't expect this, look at your state sneaking off into the night, losing sleep...and for what? This?
"Bhauji... Gauri whimpered, "I tried but I just-
Anika held a hand up, stopping the young woman from continuing. She strode around her, picking up the remote and pausing the recording running serial. With a mischievous smirk she addressed her devrani.
"Gauri, I know you want to come and see your boyfriend but this is getting out of hand, Anika teased, settling on the couch. "Qubool Hai finished a few years ago, but you've only now jumped on the Asad Ahmed Khan fangirl bandwagon?
"You just don't understand, Gauri whined, flopping next to her, "Asad-ji, he's so sweet and caring. Has such an amazing personality and the way him and Zoya-di are just meant to be...I can't help myself!
"Are you sure you don't like Asad-ji because he reminds you of Omkara? Anika giggled. "The same long hair, mannerisms? Sounds a bit suspicious.
Gauri gaped at the teasing before she shot off her own comment.
"Aha Bhauji, and are you sure that you don't like Arnav Singh Raizada because he reminds you of Bade Bhaiya?
Anika gaped, grabbing a pillow and smacking the younger woman with it. "You brat! The whole nation loves Arnav Singh Raizada the cool dressing, the resiliency, his love for his sister! Iss Pyar Ko Kya Naam Doon has inspired generations of lovers to come!
"Still sounds like Shivaay Bhaiya, Gauri squealed under the barrage of pillows.
The two ladies fell against each other in quiet giggles. In the midst of their chaotic lives, the two had come together in the love of their respective Indian daily soaps. It wasn't much, but for a little while in their days they had moments either with each other or alone where they could briefly forget the struggles of their lives and fall in love with the characters and stories presented to them. The addition of swoon worthy male leads was an added bonus.
Yes this love of soaps was one that was forbidden and scintillating, many young women partaking in it.
However, as with anything in the Oberoi household even this was bound to result in confusion like no other. But, like with any good story this too would end in the union of two respective couples...after some hijinks and hilarity mixed with lots of confusion and some classic Ishqbaazi.
So welcome to My Wife's Affair which will better yet be known as "how misunderstandings with Indian soaps brought two knuckleheaded couples together due to jealousy, revelations and general hilarity.
