Dear compatriots,
Devoted partners,brothers and sisters š¤
Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls;
Where words come out from the depth of truth;
Where tireless striving stretches its arms towards perfection;
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the
Dreary desert sand of dead habit;
Where the mind is led forward by thee into ever-winding thought and action
Into that heaven of freedom, my Father, let my country awake.
- Rabindranath Tagore
Wish you all a very happy 59th Republic Day!
26th of January as most of us consider is not only the celebration of REPUBLIC DAY OF INDIA but it is yet another manifestation of the struggle and sacrifice witnessed by our Mother Nation.Common knowledge is that to protect ourselves and to safe-guard our national interests a drafting committee headed by Dr.B.R.Ambedkar gave to us the Constituition of India.
This, in fact, was a deliberate act: the 26th of January was initially India's "Independence Day", one of Mahatma Gandhi's many symbolic acts during India's struggle for freedom against British colonial rule, and the adoption of the Constitution on this date was felt able to strengthen its initial meaning, one calling for Indians of all ages to declare their freedom from the British Raj.
Nevertheless how is the this illustrious occasion celebrated in India these days?Come let's have a look at it.š
The very utterance of Republic Day reminds everyone of the grand parade that is going to be held at the country's capital every year.The spectacle starts from the Raisina Hill near the Rashtrapati Bhavan, along the Rajpath past the Indian Gate and on to the historic Red Fort. The function is carried on a impressive scale.It is very colorful and brings out the true essence of national festivity.
By and large the opening perceived is by the assemblance of the different regiments of the Army, the Navy and the Air Force.Later they march past in all their finery and official decorations. After receiving the salute President of India awards bravery medals to civilians coming from various strata of the society. The best part however is the procession of richly caprisoned elephants stepping with musicians as well as citizens being honoured for personal courage.
This 59th Republic Day we are celebrating is special from others as it is our first women President Mrs.Pratibha Devisingh Patil who will be receiving the salute and participating in the event.
Now let me wind this very short speech of mine and let you rejoice the grandeur of revitalizing OUR heritage.š³
But that's not all.Let us check how much you know about our country.Here are some questions.The answers will be posted soon (by 28th Jan).
