In the bouquet scene Zain does say what he feels - he can't stop thinking of her since the day he met avni, feeling about the dance and hug
Seeing Avni's reaction he laughs to put her at ease! Also says she should not pushy people away hurt alone
He is in his own way gauging Avni's feeling though he tries to reason out his own feeling to not hurt himself should Avni decide to leave
