I constantly rewatched that bandage scene, especially from the part where Avni mentioned ali till the end of the scene when avni walks away and neil questions himself about feeling hurt when avni mentions ali.
The moment Avni says to neil "Maine Ali se bhi kaha. Dosti ek taraf, aur badla ek taraf", Neil looked shocked and tensed up, then inquired about her friendship with Ali. For the first time, the jealous side of Neil was shown today, and this is literally one of my fave Avneil scenes till date.
Then when Avni addressed his question by talking about her childhood friendship with Ali, he seemed in deep thought, and his eyes looked somber. His eyes and reaction clearly portrayed a pang of insecurity. This was also visible when she stopped talking and continued with bandaging his hand.
He fell completely silent, but there was pain and discomfort on his face, which had nothing to do with the wound on his hand, as he was in pain out of jealousy, remembering what she just told him about her and Ali's friendship. That was obvious when he was slightly taken aback when Avni, who had noticed the pain on his face, asked him whether it hurt. She was talking about his wound, but he thought she had noticed his OTHER pain that he didn't want her to notice.
His dialogues after this were worth taking note. He said "Dard na ho, isliye mujhi ko dyaan rakhna padega" and continued looking somberly at Avni, Then when Avni said "chaut toh anjaane se lagi ti na?" He said "Aage se koi chaut nahin lage gi". His expressions became a little more controlled at this speech, like he was determined to make sure he would prevent himself from getting hurt henceforth. He was not talking about preventing himself from getting physically hurt, but preventing any emotional pain that he could suffer if he became too attached to Avni.
Then when she walked away and he thought to himself that all of a sudden on hearing about Ali, why did he feel hurt. Then he just brushed off his own thought saying that whatever it is, just until dayavanti is arrested, they will have to maintain this relationship, but after that, they both will go their own ways. His expressions mirrored a mixture of uncertainty, forced disconcern and pain.
His denial love mode has started, but now he has started feeling insecure towards avni-ali friendship. I hope this isn't the only jealous/ insecure Neil scene we get. We need more to keep things consistent, rather than things running helter-skelter amongst the bond of Avneil. Avni isn't even close to having feelings of love for him, let alone denial.
