Just saw a movie.
Its a not new one. Starring one of the popular and yesteryear superstar as male lead it was a decent family entertainer and I believe it worked in the box office too. But have look in the storyline.
Eyeing the easy money he can get as dowry he marries a girl. The girl's father goes through hardships and pays a part of the above dowry and asks extension for the rest. The ML gives advance for buying a boat with the initial sum. The girls father finds it difficult to raise the rest of the money due compromising financial conditions. The ML losses the advance amount because he is unable to give the rest. Being furious he abuses his wife and takes her back to her house. The ML's family is very good they bring back the girl after apologising to her and her family but the ML repeats the same crime. He also verbally abuses her father and family members.
The girl gets government job and she agrees to arrange the sum but he ignores her. Finally the girl wins a lottery of 2 crores and the ML goes behind her like a dog. She ignores him repeatedly. One of her male friends come into the scene and a somewhat jealousy track is shown.
The MLs family falls in the same place when his sister and her boyfriend is found from a boat(not a houseboat, not alone, just normal outing) by the regressive villagers. If the marriage is to happen then the ML should give a dowry of 50 sovereigns and 10 lakh rupees. The ML goes through the same trouble as the girl's father and is unable to raise the amount in time. At the day of the marriage the girl comes and helps them out with needed jewellery and cash and reconciles with the ML not even asking for an apology. (He looks guilty and emotional and all) The end credits roll as they prepare to consumate.
The guy has not even tried to give a heartfelt apology or anything. He didn't even feel an ounce of guilt before this incident. This is what our films reflect. Ages after this dowry has become legally banned this happens. I am also seeing the various faces of my aunts when it comes to dowry for their sons!!
