Hi Guys,
I do not like many Indian Serials. I hate Saas-Bahu drama with a passion. Yet, I am watching Ishqbaaz. For Shivay and Anika.
What draws me to a serial is not the plots and tracks, but the characters. I need to connect with them. I need to understand their motivations, their quirks, their soul, and I am good to go. I want the characters to grow, change, evolve over the course of the serial. Tracks are secondary to me. That is the reason why I watch Ishqbaaz, irrespective of the nonsensical tracks.
Shivay is fiercely protective of the family. The great wall of Shivay is always true. He is proud of his heritage, his bloodline, his family, and his legacy. Nothing gets past him. He can do anything for them, everyone else be damned. So is Anika. Both are very similar.
The protectiveness of Shivay's, also comes with a flaw. He is obsessed with bloodline and family name. Both feed each other. His obsession and protection go hand in hand. He always assumed that he is so protective of the family, because it is his duty as the older son born into such an illustrious family. He cannot separate NKK and his protection. He always thought that because he is son of Oberoi, he is the protector of Oberoi family.
Then Anika came into his life. A nameless orphan, who showed that being protective of one's family is not the characteristics of one's bloodline, but of one's values. She is fiercely protective of Sahil, her family of heart, not blood. She is protective of Shivay too. She protects because she loves. That is as simple as it gets.
And that is the lesson which Shivay needs to learn. That he is the 'Great Wall of Shivay' because he loves his family, not because of his bloodline. The first step of his realization was when offered his protection to Sahil and Anika. His final transformation will come when he realizes the truth about Mahi.
Who is Shivay without Oberoi name? Will he be this WALL without his family name? Yes he will. And Shivay will realize who is he at the core. He will always be a protector, irrespective of his family, his blood line. And Anika will be with him, every step of his way. Only when he realizes who Shivay is, he will learn his love for Anika and her love for him.
