"Because of you, I learned to fake a smile"
There was a lot of hustle bustle in the otherwise quiet home of Maan and Geet with Yash and Sameera moving in. Sameera shared Geet's room and her non stop sleep talking did not help Geet sleep but she tried to adjust after knowing the truth. She recalled her conversation with Sameera last night asking her to convince Maan to move back with them. She was shocked at the thought of being alone and somehow she felt pained too, but why was the question,Maan had to go back as he is not related to her, so she is alone and she must try to live up with it.
It was great at the very start

She got out of her bed to only see Sameera chasing Maan and he trying pry her off from him."What is the big idea of sneaking into my room when I'm returning from work at 4 a.m in the morning, I'm tired and want to sleep. You are annoying me now Sameera, just go away", He said. "But I really love you, Maan lets get along like we always did", She said jumping on him almost thereby pushing him a little forward making him to bump into Geet making her to fall down the stairs but she was saved as Maan pulled her to himself. Geet missed a beat not only because she was about to fall but realizing Maan is not her brother, she has started to feel weird now, her heart and mind not getting anything. "Geet are you alright. You are not hurt anywhere are you", He spoke worried checking her for any injuries. "Leave me", She said. "What", He looked up surprised. "I said leave", She spoke rudely then realized what she said and apologized. "It is okay dear, you might have been just startled with the sudden push," He said patting her head and turning back to Sameera he roared, "What the hell are you trying to do, you could have injured her can't you for once behave like a responsible adult in front of her."

Sameera looked at Geet and apologized, "I'm sorry Geet". "It is alright," She said. "Geet are you ready for school", Maan asked. "I'm going to stay back today", She said. "Why, what happened", Yash asked. "Ah, I have still have a holiday left", She told. "Okay then call me if you need anything okay", Maan said. "It is alright, I have Yash bhai here, I can manage you can go to work and after that I will meet Dev too", She said not knowing how to behave now knowing they are not related. "Alright then, that settles it now Maan you go off to work we will manage", Yash said trying to make matters lighter sensing something something wrong in Geet's behavior. He has been noticing this from the past three days they moved in here. He just came here to keep an eye on his sister, he knew she could hurt people, not knowing what she has already done. Maan left for his work and she was left with Yash and Sameera. "Come on Geet, eat this , then I would be leaving for work too, I hope you two get along then", Yash smiled. "Bhai its too much ...this meal", Geet said looking at the spread across her. "Geet you are a growing child, you need your nutrition right, come on eat up", Sameera said. Geet had the meal and then Yash too left for work.
As soon as they left Geet started checking the newspapers. "Oh what are you doing", Sameera asked making Geet jump back in shock. "Nothing", She said hiding the newspaper behind her back. "Looks suspicious let me see", She said snatching it and was shocked seeing her looking for jobs. "You don't have to worry about a job. You just have to convince Maan to go back for us and then I will be your guardian until you are grown up and have a family of your own",She said. "I don't need your advise and well if you will stay with me then what about you pursuing Maan. Won't it be a let down for you to stay away from him", Geet said rudely. "Hmm it will be but I have waited for fourteen years now and a few years more won't hurt ...I will wait until he too looks at me may be someday ...", She smiled. "Well I can't sit back and let him work nonstop", Geet reasoned. "You are not working and that is final got it", Sameera said sternly. Geet just left angrily from there.

"What happened", Dev asked as he entered the library to see her in an angry mood. "Sameera di, she won't let me work", She said. "Why do you want to work anyway", He smiled. "Maan is working too hard just because of me and I want to free him of that burden. Hes only 22 and look at him working so hard at such a young age. At this rate he won't get any girls or won't enjoy himself. I want him to chose other girls than Sameera di who is always imposing herself upon him", She finished. "You know I love that part about you, thinking so much for everyone", He smiled making her smile. "So you mean you want to do it for Maan bhai", He said. "Huh, ah no, I mean I just thought that..its just that I want to grow up faster so that he does not worry about me ..I want him to be happy", She tried to cover up. They completed their homework and left for their houses. "I want to do something for Maan...What is this ...I can't live apart from him...but I know I can't live with him forever too...but ...why should I feel like this", She thought. She went on and applied for a job.
Sameera was removing the dishes when the phone rang and she picked up , "Hello". Geet came running down hearing the ring she was waiting for. "Hello Maam we have taken your application for work into consideration and you can come and join from tomorrow", The other person spoke. "Work...", Sameera said confused. "Yes Maam you applied for a part time job and...", Before he could complete he was cut by Sameera, "Listen we don't need any work. It was a prank by my little sister and she is not going to work so ask someone else and don't bother calling here". She put down the receiver and turned to see Geet there. "It was for me why did you do that ", She said furious.

"Because you are a child and you are not working", She spoke ignoring her glares. "Who the hell are you to tell me that", Geet said. Now this got Sameera and she turned back holding her from her shoulders shaking her, "Why do you want to work , tell me why. Is it fun to hurt Maan every time". "I'm not hurting him, I'm just arranging for my own expenses since he is not related to me. I'm just going to grow up faster", Geet said. "Really, Geet just tell me how are you a 17 year old going to survive in this world with a part time job.Grow up you say, huh, when will you grow up, after you are married have kids when ,...can't you see Maan values you more than his life ", She yelled.
"Listen, I'm an orphan so I will do what I have to and why are you worried you were the one who told me this. You are the one who took the one last thing I thought I had in the name of a family, it was all a lie but at least I was happy. Happy that someone cares for me, loves me but you took it away so it should be none of your business to tell me what I should do. I can't stand to live carefree here while he works like a machine for me", Geet yelled frustrated.
"Listen if you really want to leave then ask Maan to come back to us. He is working hard for you all his life just for you. He is only 22 and just look at him hes still working hard just for you and you say he don't care for you. How much just how are you going to hurt people, you want to work fine then do me a favor tell Maan you want him to go back", Sameera said. Her words echoed in her ears, "Ask him to go back...". She does not want that but why wasn't she one thinking of separating from him so why was the question. "I can't live with him but I can't live apart from him, I don't want to...I know it is wrong but why does it feel so right", She thought. Her innocent mind not getting any answers to the questions that were there. Geet went back to her room while Sameera watched on looking sadly at her retreating figure, "I'm sorry Geet, but I can't let go him. I have loved him long enough and I know I'm fighting a losing battle because I can see what Maan can not but ...I will try".

Maan returned from work all worn out. "Maan, you are back, come and have diner with us", Sameera said. He did not answer and just slumped down on the couch sleep taking over with all the tiredness. "Hey you can't just sleep like this, come on have your diner", Sameera said. "Please let him rest", Yash said. "Hes been working all night nonstop let him rest", He said.
Geet felt sad looking at his condition. She went up to the couch wheere he was sleeping, and caressed his head. "I will do what you said", She told Sameera once both were alone. "Oh really great Geet", She grinned. "But I have still not agreed to let you be my guardian, until then, please let us live in peace...just for now..", She saying laying her head on the couch near him. "I can't live without him, but I must set him free, but for now even if its a little bit, I want to stay with him", She thought drifting to sleep. Sameera watched their bond silently moving to her room.

The next day Geet got ready for her school early. She made up her mind to follow Sameera's words. She did not want to hurt anyone anymore. She waited for Maan. He saw her ready, "Geet you are up so early. It's still time for school, come on I will drop you", Maan said. "Okay, can we walk ..." She asked. "Walk ...okay, come on I will show you something too", Maan said. She grabbed her schoolbag and went with him.He took out a handy cam from his bag and focused it on her. "Here, let me film you", Maan said . "What is this, hey stop it", Geet laughed trying to pry the camera off her face.
"It is the new model our company bought, so I'm just testing it. And we did not make any new memories so that's why , I thought this would be a good idea, so come on now say something", Maan focused it on her face again making her laugh at his idea. "Its weird ...", She laughed. "You know I always used to wonder back with Yash's family why there is only this pic of our family, how would this little girl in the picture be. How will she look when when shes grown up. I used to imagine so much about you", He said. "You were scared you mean, so what do you think now", She smiled.
"Nah, just thought if you were not a gone case like Sameera, then how would I handle you", He said making her laugh. "I'm really happy we met though and I got to know this smiling you complaining and angry you. I'm happy now. I'm so glad that I came back to get you, I get to know something new about you daily, I'm truly happy here", He smiled.
Geet snatched his camera and focused on him. "Now give that to me, now your turn to play the star", She laughed. "Hey wait", Maan smiled. "So how was your life back at the states", She asked still focusing the camera. "It was good back in their family its always a joyful atmosphere. They are good people, they made me feel home", He smiled. "You must be missing them", She asked. "Not really. The one I always missed was you but now that I found you, I'm happy", He smiled making her capture that expression. She hated to do this but she had to, "I can't be selfish, I should let him go...but then will I be able to live. I have to smile and say this though it hurts but I must I have to for him", She thought. Her conflicting emotions not getting any answers.

"I have been thinking lately, that since you have seen that I'm doing fine here. I mean now I'm not alone, I have friends at school and Dev also is there, and everyone cares for me so ...I guess you can go back to your old life now. Sameera di and Yash bhai will be happy too, they want you to go back and she loves you may be you can marry her and be happy too. I mean there is no need to look after me now. Sameera di said she will be staying here until I'm a grown up so you could just lay back and enjoy your life now and...", Geet said it all in a go and looked up to see him looking at her with an unknown expression.
"So you are asking me to go", Maan said calmly. "I just ...I mean you are only 22, people enjoy ...and you ...", She couldn't find words. "Hmm..I see so that sums up, Sameera, Yash and your feelings but what about me...Has anyone asked what I feel".
