TSMSPJep:27*3.5.17:My Impressions* " in my mind's eye"
Famous words of Hamlet, when he refers to seeing his father's apparition. The mind's eyes is about one's visual memory or imagination. Talking about the inner eye, I also think about , Lord Shiva's third eye too, a point on the forehead that corresponds to one of the chakras in yoga. Lord Shiva's third eye is associated with mystical insight that gives devotes enlightenment. To me the episode touches upon the characters memories, and faculties of forming images. How they think..
It's spiritual reflection hour of coming together, as a family before the Lord. Kanak in required dress code turns up for the worship. She looks the part..but her mind is preoccupied. For her it's interesting to see ,that there is one man who holds attention in this household. His family , his community all have their eyes set on him. After the Lord , its Uma Shankar who is the Lord and master of the house, cum spiritual leader of Ladnun. Kanak's mind is more dismissive than approving of him. Her arrival prompts no acknowledgement of her from Uma. Kanak, on the other hand , has to force her heart and mind both, to go along with the obeisance. Payal, though is away with the fairies totally !instructions to seat Kanak beside Uma for worship go over her head. In her mind's eyes she thinks of the incongruity of having such a post nuptial ritual forherself. Maasi keeps her mind tuned into controlling the younger women of the household . Nothing escapes her eyes. She shrewdly assures Payal when Aditya turns up, similar rituals will be repeated for them too. Kanak clasps her hands with a humbling spirit. Her supplication to her Lord is to beg for his assistance in the seemingly improbable search of Bhabo's papers. For Kanak yet again , her mind boggles at the necessity of Uma Shankar, taking a vow , after uttering and learning about her name! one secret upper hand that Kanak conceals quietly within herself . Kanak yet again, refrains from telling him her real name. In her mind's eye Kanak can predict that after learning her name he will most definitely attempt to harm her family. So despite both family and guests insistence Kanak refuses to disclose her identity . she will not disclose her name, no matter what!! Female devotees suggest a brilliant idea that Uma christen her anew!
What's in a name? he may call her whatever? but within herself, Kanak will still denounce him for the marriage he has forced upon her. Yet Uma is one who boasts of a strong mind, which never loses perspective. It admirably sails through every task that creates a tumultuous in his life. Some woman compliment the glowing golden beauty of his anonymous wife! Gold precious metallic boon! mother earth contains within her bosom.. Uma gives her a sided look as she sits beside him.. in his mind's eye he visualizes his visit to a business venue his heart was set upon. Kanak sweet mart! Kanak.. sustenance providing grain ,golden! nature's bounty! Kanak .. an intoxicating flower ,Kanak! the strength of the gods! Lord Shiva gives him the name! With the tip of the sharp gold dagger , as the quill, Uma dips it in kum kum! Used for the sacred mark of Tilak.. Red, the bridal colour! Uma scribes the letters Kanak! all present resound her new? name as Uma sides his head towards her and calls her.. Kanak! a name prompted and inspired by Lord Shiva , the gods have connected their hearts.. the names of Uma and Kanak stand linked before the gods, he whispers to her. Kanak gulps in shock and meets herself as she really is. She marvels at his direct links with the gods? Or her mind suspects foul play? Some dirty trick of his! from the realms of black magic ! that he should know her real name, without her telling him. Kanak's mind boggles! The puja ends with Uma's solemn oath to her name Kanak.. his heart calls out to! Kanak! ordained by the holy order..
Tragic demented mind's eye.. Dementia churns up Suraj and Sandhya before Bhabo time and again. Her senile mind sickens with their memories. In her mind she sees the shop illuminated with lights bold and bright for the shops 65th anniversary. Ved and Vansh see only through their mind's eye.. tears ,heartbreak and a quagmire of forgetfulness, danger! Her fall in the shop, is seen symbolically slipping further into Dementia.. without her realizing it! the bone of contention! For Bhabo as the grandson see it, has to be disposed off! After the celebrations.. now both brothers agree upon the decision..
In Uma's house more celebrations for their golden girl sister Kanak. Shiv announces the ullana! Telling it as it is.. speaking one's mind out.. one more ritual seen as an icebreaker between the groom and the bride ,set out to ease distances betwixt strangers. Also provides a platform where they can sound off emotions. Uma epitomizes their bond , connected till seven births. A relationship that fills him with hope for future days when in heart, mind and soul she'll belongs to him completely. For Kanak his words are nothing beyond words! to impress the audience .Yes she has loads to complain about how Uma Shankar treated her!! but reason prevails over her..she needs the deeds of the shop , so she will act dumb... withhold her piece.
But Massi only looks on to shielding Uma against calculated onslaughts from his new bride. So with great panache, unpleasant massi! rescues the situation and offers Palomi as the appropriate double role in place of Kanak . Maasi manipulates Palomi s sentiments to speak her mind out on behalf Kanak. To me it's serving Kanak with a warning to that .Massi knows how to put her in place! Palomi speaks out her feelings for Uma , that he comprehends not what her heart feels for him..in fact he never even sets eyes on her face.. sometimes she senses , he knows the workings of her heart, but she feels uncertain... speaks out Palomi.. she adds , this is what Kanak would say. Kanak has to recite the dummy lines publically to appease , Uma and family.. small price to pay for winning Bhabo's big love! So the purpose of the scene, is to allow, Palomi to speak for Kanak! Kanak repeats lines without any meaning. Palomi words reflect her real feelings ..but Kanak's words only showcase her play acting! to get by!! Repeat in parrot fashion, on rote!!! Uma is aware of this! He has a long tedious way ahead in winning Kanak's trust. Palomi saves Kanak by her heartfelt words for Uma, but she still cannot be the appropriate replacement for their nuptial night as Uma's wife! The women tease. Massi reveals what Uma was trying to say last night, that till Kanak's name and family is not known she cannot be seen as cleansed of undesirable elements ,free of stigmas, purged.. to be accepted and married into this family . Kanak felt such an idiot! if she had known she wouldn't have slept in the bathroom!
Uma wants her to do away with the darkness of shunning him. He pulls the curtains, lets the sunlight in! she sees light, steps into it and finds herself before her lord Shiva.. her belief and faith makes the lord's third eye open! He enlightens her.. he will give her the guidance she needs to find what he has brought her here to attain..she finds solace in his presence.. the hand of lord Shiva ..leads her on.. Hamlet53 4.5.17
precap:Kanak now filled with Lord Shiva's assistance.. looks to which member of the household will lead her on to what she seeks.. Shiv! is ideal.. he leads her to Uma's ayervedic inner sanctum! Kanak reckons, Ravan might have hidden the papers here amongst his herbal scrolls.. she fidgets with them... suddenly.. that voice.. you want something?? Kanak runs to the white curtains! and slams against uma's red kurta clad broad chest! damn! he took the very life out of her! intruder? he looks down at the top of her head.. her arms around him!!!đ˛... the poor lass trembles like a leaf against him... his sinewy arms close around her waist.. there ..there.. never fear... Uma Shankar is here!... jai! bhole Nath... Uma smiles..
