As many you must have guessed, this thread comes close on the hills of the thread stating Jenny's claim regarding her character.

"Maya is not negative"--Jennifer states clearly in her interview. And the character's fans have jumped right in, claiming victory for their assumptions regarding Maya not being the murderer.

Make no mistake; I still sympathize with Maya for the Hades she endured in her childhood. i wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.
But that being said; Maya isn't negative? Why? Just because she isn't the murderer? 😲

So ONLY MURDERING makes you negative? Huh??😕

Falsely accusing an innocent man of rape doesn't come within the ambit of 'Black'?

I'm not denying that she might be redeemed later on with counselling and proper treatment. But there's no way in HELL that she's grey right now. She's coal-black.

Absolutely agree with the bold part ! Accusing and trapping a man in a false rape attempt case definitely comes within the ambits of "Black'

Having said that m not sure in what context Jennifer said that Maya is not a negative character...She could have said it keeping in mind the entire story and maybe not a phase...Maybe as you said she may redeem later or realizes her mistakes and repents for them after getting treated...So, Jennifer may have said it keeping in mind the entire plot and not a single phase who knows.

also Jennifer can't reveal the plot and spoilers of the show hence she might have played it safe by saying that Maya is not negative but grey.

From the story's perspective and logically speaking she went overboard in trapping Ayaan for sure and there should not be any justification for that !

It is still in CVs hands to take the story in any direction

Still CVs might show her a grey and not completely negative in a number of ways :

firstly she is mentally ill , if a normal person had behaved like Maya does then he will be termed as a dark character but here CVs have shown her to be mentally ill which makes her grey.

by showing that she didn't commit those murders. Again she will remain a grey character

by showing that she had a tragic past..again in this way her character will gain sympathy.

By showing her getting treated and then repenting for her mistakes.

By making some kind of sacrifice in the end

OR

A complete dark character

She committed all the crimes including the murders.

She will end up hurting or killing someone dear to Arjun

She will cross all the limits of keeping Arjun for herself

It will be too late for her to redeem herself

So, CVs can take any route as far as the story and Maya's character is concerned.

For me she has always been a GREY COMPLEX CHARACTER but what she did to Ayaan comes under the ambit of black for sure but maybe CVs will do something which again will make Maya grey and not completely negative.

That is why I think Jenny could have said it keeping in mind the overall story and not on basis of one action or one phase.

This is the only reason i could come up with

Maya trapping Ayan in a false rape case does come under the ambit of black. Along with it, I believe her caging Arjun, installing cctvs everywhere to keep a track on Arjun, giving continuous threats of suicide to stop a person from leaving, willingly including her mother also in her suicide threats, drugging and abducting a person; all these actions of Maya also come under the ambit of black.

I believe Maya was Grey in season 1 where she was a manipulative and a smart go getter. She did things in season 1 but none comes under the purview of legal matters. But in season 2, everything she has done, is in one way or another a criminal offence.

I don't know why Jen is still stressing on the fact that Maya is a grey character.

Absolutely agree...As i said the only sane reason i can think of is that Jennifer was talking from the over all story perspective and not phase wise as I have explained in the post above

In my opinion, maya, as of now, considering all things that happened to her, and all things that happened bcoz of her...is BLACK

she was grey initially then she underwent a not-so-subtle transformation where her pallete just got a few more shades and she ended up mixed in a totally darker color...

ohk if u dont agree with my color theory, call me color blind

then again, it differs on one's definition of grey and black

It is Jennifer herself who said that Maya is gray. She is not evil. Whatever she does, it is out of her insecurity that follows her traumatic past.

Then keeping in mind Ayan's physical assault on maya.. we should also consider ayan negative on such basis.
And sanjh being the killer of a baby in womb she is also negative.
My point is..
No murder doesn't gives a character coming under Negative or positive, but the intentions & situations decide that.
Murder for self defence or murder with a target decides positive or neg.
And also the people who act good from out but have ill intentions in mind & maintain a facade also are negative.

According to so-called Television laws, the only 'crime' that is unforgivable and deemed as 'black' or negative is murder. Rest are all forgivable/redeemable even rape or attempt to rape. So Jenifer is right in that context. She ain't black. Secondly, why would she herself label her own character as 'negative'? I mean why would she in her right mind give her/Maya haters a chance to celebrate?
