Why is Maya called 'mentally ill'?

I have watched the show from the beginning but I cannot recall seeing anything that showed that Maya was mentally ill. There was some discussion about her depression but nothing else.

I also do not think of her mentally ill. She is like any other tv vamp - dresses better than other characters, is better actress than most, has the perfect background music, gives weirdest/evil expressions while giving hugs, etc.

What has qualified her to be a candidate for mental illness?

I like the show BECAUSE it is the story from the "other" side and not from Miss Goody-two-shoes, ever-ready-to-sacrifice all perspective.

I don't know abt mental illness even i feel the same as u do...but then when i see her obsessive nature...it makes me feel she is suffering from a mental illness...OCD is the name of her illness...its a dangerous mental illness...if she is being treated in a mental hospital...she would be isolated as such people are unpredictable and can do anything...how i know...my aunt is a psychiatrist...and to be honest..understanding a mental condition patient is the most difficult task..psychiatrist is the most difficult subject in medicine...

people who are depressed doesn't manipulate people...dominate people...depressed people are mostly low and has sucidal tendency...they always have this thought to end their life...my neighbour tried to attempt suicide due to depression...now she is much better after counsellor n psychiatrist help...from what i see maya is suffering from OCD(Obsessive Compulsion Disorder)this illness is very dangerous...i guess yes...she is suffering from mental illness...she is suffering from OCD...which needs to be treated asap before they harm themselves or people surrounded them...

its pretty obvious she has some physiological issues, the way she acts is not normal, she gets angry very quickly, then quickly apologises, she isn't in control of her own feelings, also her obsession over arjun is very unhealthy, she gets worried and scared wenenver he isnt around, she threatens to kill herself if he ever leaves her, these r not things normal people do, she needs medical help and therapy, but nobody is trying to help her, not even her husband who is being so insensitive to her, he shud realise that maya needs help

Major depression is a type of mental disorder. and as per the show Maya is having severe depression. there might b other illness too... we don't know yet... her actions are pretty abnormal. she definitely showed lot of signs of being a sociopath. that is being anti-social, no frnds, suicidal tendency, can harm others also. etc etc

Not different enough than other negative characters. In other shows the negative person is just as obsessed with money or something else. Here she is obsessed with Arjun and her own power.

Vamp is a label only. If a vamp was writing her autobiography, she would be the heroine.

Her illness is not DEPRESSION. Depressed people don't manipulate and blackmail other people. Maya is a psychopath. She is dangerous than vamp.

Don't know anything about psychopaths but major depression does not make a person dangerous.
Vamps/negative characters on Hindi soaps do all of the above - manipulate, blackmail, seduce, and kill.
