Perhaps he created one extra then intended.Perhaps he used Nagini because he couldn't find anything of Gryffindor or maybe he didn't particularly care for Gryffindor.

He made 8 altogether.... 😳
He intended to make 7 as its the most powerful magical number but, accidentally/unintentionaly Harry became a horcux too..... 😳
