I felt bad for neil's mother when he ignored her and put the engagement ring on riya. Obviously in her eyes she has been disrespected twice by the mehta's and she is right anyways to think they are not right for her family, but for her son to go ahead and ignore her there and then in front of all and ask the girl she refused to get her son married to, to get engaged with him is obviously humiliating for a mother. Why on earth is he doing this? He doesn't love riya, and he still claims to love his dead girlfriend, so why go against his mother like that to marry riya?
But one interesting thing about that scene was how when neil said that they promised riya's hand in marriage to neil so wouldn't it be deceit if they go back on their word, hearing neil say that, avni saw the parallel between neil and her father and saw that neil was different from her father...that scene felt so nice, but again felt bad that neil was going against his mother for these mehta's. In fact today's episode avni noticed quite a few parallels between neil and ashish. So today it is established that in fact neil is the complete opposite to ashish. And somehow even avni admitted to herself that ashish is a coward and neil isn't. Where ashish for the sake of his mother left the woman he claimed to love, asha and his own daughter vulnerable to face the world by themselves and was never with them through their difficult times, whereas neil is going against his mother to stand up for a girl who he doesn't love at all.
