Have you watched Peshwa Bajirao? It is ten times better than Chandra Nandini, as a real, credible historical, in terms of the script, the sets, the casting and the performances. It has just reached 50 episodes, and the highest TRP it got was 0.9 in its opening week. The average since then has been 0.7.

Now that is a tragedy for all those who yearn for good serials on Hindi TV, comparable to the debacle of the excellent shows that Yash Raj TV produced 6 years ago, not one of which crossed a TRP of 1.

Not Chandra Nandini. Not after last week and this one. It was always a travesty of a historical, has distorted EVERY single major character beyond recognition, stood history, such as it is, on its head. Par wo sab bhi chalta tha, especially in a Hindi TV so-called "historical", for they are, with rare exceptions, all the same in these respects.

But the last few episodes have been the pits. It is criminal, the way in which they have now reduced one of the greatest of India's emperors to a love-besotted, irresponsible, pathetic caricature of a king.

A king who is prepared to abandon his throne, his praja - let us forget all the meaningless phrases he mouths to the contrary; if there is an enemy attack on Pataliputra, without the Macedonian troops, he will lose for sure, and then how long will it take him to get back from his jungle paradise to Pataliputra?- and his dangerously ill wife and unborn child to have a honeymoon with Wife No. 3.

Lord Rama sent Devi Sita to the forest to fulfil what he saw as his duty to his praja. This
Chandragupta Maurya abandons his praja to its fate and himself goes to the forest to coochy coo with his beloved. 😡And he blabbers about following the MM rules, forgetting that when Nandini is no longer the MM, where does the question of the rules come up at all?

They have destroyed the character of Chandragupta Maurya beyond redemption. I would like to see how the TRP audience reacts to his betrayal of all the sacred vows he took, at the time of his coronation and later, and the ones he gave to the Acharya who made him what he became, the Magadhasamrat.

If they too think, as some here seem to, that this is a wonderful show, and the TRPs for the next week go up, that only means that the audience and this muck deserve each other.

As someone who has written more in praise of Rajat's talent and performances - in Jodha Akbar and then in Chandra Nandini - than almost everyone else here put together, I was shell-shocked by the goings on over the last few episodes, as much by the dreadful script as by what he has been reduced to. And I have quit watching the show, for I could stand no more of this degradation of Chandragupta Maurya.

If the real Chandragupta Maurya were to come down to earth, he would kill Ekta and the CVs . It might be unfair, but I would not be surprised if he clobbered Rajat too!

My dear Putija,

I agree with you 100%, but the shocking downturn in Chandra Nandini took me by surprise and dismayed me no end. I could not believe what they were showing, and I was so angry at the degradation in Chandragupta Maurya' character that I have dropped the serial wef Monday last. Seeing the written updates since then , I am glad I did!

When I look at my last post Dhai Rang Prem Ke, which celebrated the beautiful Chandra-Nandini relationship and their delightful scenes together, it is so ironic that the show has, for me at least, plummetted to such depths in a matter of 16 episodes. It is pathetic.
