Spyker will be known as the 'Force India' F1 team next season after the FIA approved the name change.

The F1 team, which was sold to Indian billionaire Vijay Mallya and Dutch businessman Michiel Mol earlier this month, is once again set to change its name.

Since 2005 the outfit has had three names. It started as Jordan but that was changed to Midland when the team was sold. Midland, however, did not last very long as the team was bought by and named Spyker at the start of this year's championship.

However, Spyker has not lasted long either with the next set of new owners deciding to re-name the team 'Force India'.

Mallya and Mol were given the go-ahead to change the name at a meeting of the FIA's World Motor Sport Council in Paris on Wednesday

Force India have confirmed that Giancarlo Fisichella will partner Adrian Sutil ahead of the team's Formula One debut season.

The Italian veteran, who turns 35 next week, impressed during test sessions at Barcelona and Jerez towards the end of last year, with another driver to try out for the race seat alongside the promising Sutil, Vitantonio Liuzzi, also on board as third driver.

Fisichella will therefore contest his 13th season in F1 and the move comes after three years with Renault, which saw the latter outfit win back-to-back Constructors' Championships in 2005 and 2006.

But he was released by Renault after a disappointing 2007 season in which he finished eighth in the drivers' championship and was largely outpaced by rookie team-mate Heikki Kovalainen.

Professionalism

Explaining his decision to opt for Force India, Fisichella said: "At the test in Jerez I was very impressed with the team's professionalism and commitment to move forward and I hope that my experience will help them achieve these goals.

"Contrary to what people think, this was not my only opportunity but it was the best one.

"With new owners and a competitive budget, I really think we can shake things up next year.

"I feel motivated and ready to help Force India get points on a regular basis."

Newly-owned by Indian billionaire Vijay Mallya and Dutch entrepreneur Michiel Mol, Force India were known as Spyker until last autumn, the Silverstone-based outfit having started life as Jordan in 1991 before being bought by the Russian-backed Midland group - the latter controlling the team in 2005-06.

'Serious project'

Mallya, who is chairman and managing director of the team, insists Force India will not be in Formula One next season just to make up the numbers.

"The Force India Formula One team is a serious project and we wanted to make a statement to this effect with our driver line-up," he said.

"Money is not the issue now: we need drivers who will push the team and give us direction.

"The race line-up of Giancarlo and Adrian is a very good one, balancing both speed and experience, and Tonio will provide the team with solid support in his testing programme."

so how do you think force india will do in there debut season?
