Disclaimer:

There is not much data prior to 1990 available so rankings are based on data post 1990 till now

When the music company T-Series came into the music world that is when sales started being recorded

In the 2000s, piracy took over on a large scale and units sold started to go down.

Due to all the reasons data is biased towards 90's decade

(File sharing over the internet was a huge issue 2000 onwards).

NOTE: Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Maine Pyaar Kiya are among the top sellers of the 80s according to BOI (added page 4) but because accurate numbers are not available, they are not in the list below.

Good old days when there were no songs available for free download. I had also brought all Hrithik Roshan movie cassettes. Also cassettes came with mixture of songs from different movies.

I'm sure DTPH surpassed Aashiqui sales. But maybe over the years Aashiqui has been selling better..?
Also, DDLJ is surely way too low. It should be Top 3.
Phool Aur Kaante?? What the f? Delete that and swap it with TAAL - that soundtrack sold like hot cakes!! I remember when I went to buy it, it was literally FLYING off the shelves and they increased the price, it was about 50p more expensive than all other releases 😭
Also, I would swap Pardes with DIL SE!!!

The lyrics were ok but the music itself was a bit monotonous. Too many slow ballads. I just found the songs boring overall, though on the whole I love 90s music.
