Introduction songs were pretty good..
In that set I liked pehla nasha and ek ladki ko dekha tho...

Coming to performances..

Rohit voice was soothing , he sang it well.
Khudabaksh's performance I couldn't enjoy well no offense but I don't know why but I felt that he wasn't singing rather he was reciting a poem. May b the original was like that. And secondly he doesn't sing with ease..
Tajender sang well..
Mohit performance was ok. But he is trying to sing out of his comfort zone.
Malvika performance was good. But bringing about her gurukul training isn't needed it's irritating... Ok I can understand that there should be gratitude that should be shown but for grabbing the attention pls don't encash this 17years of gurukul thing...
Revanth , his performance was good .. good to hear something different from him...

Elimination of tajender is expected but not this early..

In the first round, I thought Revanth's 'pehla nasha' and Malavika's song from the film 'Sur' were outstanding. They did complete justice to the songs they selected. What I hated was Judges' comments except Farah's. They were more about showing off their speaking skills. They spoke a lot but very little about the contestants' performances. Anu was like 'I worked with everyone and what I am now today is because of these greats'. the chief guest Kumar was like singers lived longer than kings and bla bla and Sonu was even worse - like 'composer is like body, singer is like blood and lyrics are like the skeleton'. I was like WTH! Why not say something about how the guys sang. Farah went straight to the performances and I liked that.

In the 2nd round, I thought Mohit found it hard singing a slow number but thumbs up for trying something out of his comfort zone. Well, he had to. The theme of the episode kind of demanded it. Rohit sang well in both the rounds. He was fantastic. So was the case with Revanth but I liked his 'Pehla nasha' even more. Malavika's performance in the 2nd round did not seem to be on par. I thought she over-felt it. I didn't like the way KB sang 'Kisi Ki Muskurahaton' either. The original was very good and I could feel the singer's joyful mood but KB as Sowiee pointed out, was like reading out the lyrics for us. Maybe it's his voice or the pitch he went with. I don't know. Tejander was as usual good. I hardly find his singing below par.

Such beautiful songs today. I'm so glad they had an episode dedicated to lyricists. I enjoyed the old songs - truly the golden era for Bollywood music.

I won't say I enjoyed the singing as much as I would've liked to, but all of them sang songs so different from their genres and that is commendable.

Dr. Kumar Vishwas sounds like a good poet, hadn't heard of him but enjoyed listening to him. Though the level of Hindi was above me, he was like a breath of fresh air.

Also I don't enjoy Saturday episodes anymore. It's like a filler - no real comments from the judges, it's just an episode because they need to have a faisle ki raat.

Anyway coming to the singing.

Starting with the medley -

Tajinder - was a so so performance for me. There was nothing wrong with his performance, but with golden melodies like this one there's a magical feeling which was missing. He sang well, but I expected more. Tajinders sung these kind of songs before so probably expected him to do better.

Revanth - pehla Nasha is a song I love. I think most of us when listening to this song instantly think of love, romance and our significant other - such is the magic of this song. The lyrics are brilliant but Udit Narayans voice makes it unforgettable. I can't imagine liking anyone else singing this song. Revanth was phenomenal but for me he missed making this song his by 0.0001%. When Revanth sang you could tell it was Revanth singing. He has a mesmerising voice and I loved him in this song but there was that minuscule bit missing.

Rohit - another beautiful song. If there is/was anybody in Indian idol to sing this song it is Rohit. He sang well, his voice was composed but there's a certain innocent playfulness to this song that was missing. This is a fairly simple song, but it is songs like these that are deceptive. Simple sounding songs are probably the hardest to master, because is not just about sur, taal and lay but about emotions and feeling.

Khudabaksh - like the ones before him he wasn't bad. It was a good performance. Not outstanding or anything but good. This and his second song are two of his better performances.

Malvika - she sounded pretty good in this song (I mean not shrill), and that already is a big thing for her. Though she did go breathless but it's not easy to sing this song. This isn't her best performance but you could see the effort that's gone into this.

Mohit - not Mohits fault, but this song is not one which can showcase your singing ability. He tried his best to do justice to this song, and to be fair he did pretty well. But I can't compare him with the others basis this song.

The good thing about the medley was that the singers came out of their comfort zones and sang such beautiful songs. Everyone was pretty good, and they showed why there made it so far.

Second song-

Mohit - I enjoyed this song. This is not a song you'd expect Mohit to sing. It's the opposite of what Mohit's known for and yet he was good. At one or two places he did falter slightly but was back on track. This is an iconic Kishore Kumar song and probably one of his better known ones. It was a risky song for mohit, but one that if sung well was sure to get him public votes.

Rohit - it's usually hard to find faults when rohit sings, he was quite good today as well. But this wasn't a wow performance from him. He has the right temperament for this song. He even brought out the right emotion for this song, technically he was brilliant but something that was missing, and I can't say what.

Maalvika - another good performance from her. Though I didn't like the end she was better than usual. Also this song suited her more than the first one. Malvika has a very different voice and singing style compared to Lata Mangeshkar, but even then she did justice to the song. Also today she wasnt high pitched and probably that's why sounded better.

Khudabaksh - his first performance was better. I think mukesh was brilliant but was always in the shadows of other singers. I could never imagine Khudabaksh singing a sing with such stability. What's more is he did a good job. When Khudabaksh sings you can sense innocence and often playfulness and you could sense that today.

Tajinder - another beautiful song. I didn't enjoy this song in Tajinders voice. Again he wasn't bad but there's a certain depth to this song which was missing. This song needs a deeper more masculine voice (I'm not saying Tajinders voice isn't masculine).

Revanth - so different from Kishore Kumar yet there were parts he copied perfectly. When Revanth sang it sounded like this song has been used in a newer film and Revanth is singing for it. I think he sang very well and so different from what he usually does. Also his diction has gotten better but still he can't say words like hai (which is in almost every song) but a great effort. I think this is another memorable performance.

I found it rather odd that Tajinder and Revanth got no feedback from the judges (or it was edited out).

Also Revanth wasn't in the bottom 3 was a big shock. After last week I was sure he'd be in the bottom, infact I believed he could have gone this week.

My ranking for today:

1- Revanth
2- Rohit
3- Khudabaksh
4- Mohit
5- Malvika
6- Tajinder

I wasn't going to post today. In fact, I wasn't even going to watch. But I did and I'm so glad I did, because this for me was THE BEST Indian Idol 9 episode! Not for the contestants or the singing, but for the songs and the people who created them. Majrooh, Nida Fazli, Javed Akhtar, Kaifi Azmi, Sahir Ludhianvi, Shailendra, Gulzar, Neeraj, Anand Bakshi - their lyrics have so much power they can make me weep with joy and drown in grief. I had written a post about specials earlier and had wished for a Sahir special, because his birthday is in March and he's my absolute favorite poet. But this was good too, in fact, an amazing medley of songs that I was so happy to hear! In fact, I may have missed the contestants' performances cause I was too involved in singing along 😳 😆! Seriously, they do not call them unforgettable and golden for nothing.
I was sad Tajinder had to go. My daughter was heart-broken. She was rooting for him to win Indian Idol and she has decided to never watch again. I, on the other hand, have no favorites now, so am just watching with cursory interest. I was surprised Rohit was safe today in lieu of Mohit. Malvika and Tajinder I expected in the danger zone. Revanth has never been in the bottom 3, so I never thought he would be this time either.

I was surprised at some of the song choices too. Not that they weren't good, but come on "Ye reshmi zulfien" for Anand Bakshi? When they could've chosen songs from Amar Prem, Aradhana or Mera gaon mera desh?🤢 "Ae bhai" for Neeraj? OMG why didn't they pick any song from Prem Pujari or Tere mere Sapne?? But not going to complain too much, I should be happy I got this at least. 😊

I'm writing down my review of the singing today based on my ranking of the contestants starting at the top.

1. Revanth: He was flawless today. "Pehla Nasha" is one of the most memorable songs for me from the 90s and one of the most softly romantic numbers I've ever heard, the way its picturized and everything is magical. Revanth did full justice. The inflection on the second "pehla" before the "kumhaar" was missing, but maybe he did that on purpose to add his own tadka to the song. It didn't sound bad or anything. Just different, but good different.
His "Aanewala Pal" was brilliant. I don't know why Revanth always chooses Arijit Singh songs to sing, I wish he didn't and I had gotten to hear him sing some other numbers as well, because he was so good! No mistakes, pronunciations weren't too bad and his voice is always amazing. I wish, wish he'd take note and sing more variety, because I truly think he's the most versatile (barring Rohit) of this current lot of contestants left.

2. Tajinder did an exceptional job on "Tum jo mil gaye ho". Its such a difficult song to sing and it has such complex musical arrangement, and the beats are just crazy, its so hard to keep time with them. Man, kudos to the guy for having the guts to sing it. 👏
"Ae Zindagi gale laga le" is another beautiful song, Ilaya Raja, oh wow, what a musical genius he is! And Suresh Wadkar had sung this song with so much feeling and the lyrics, God, the lyrics are so perfect and so heart-breaking, as only Gulzar can do and add to that the combination of Kamal-Sridevi on screen. Mind = blown, heart = ripped. He didn't sing this as good as the first one, i thought he lost it a couple of times. But still commendable effort. Overall, he was subdued today, his elimination didn't seem to faze him at all, in fact, he looked relieved 😕. So yeah!

3. Malavika: I was jumping when she picked "Dil mein jaagi", it's one of my most favorite songs and Sunidhi has done such an awesome job, and MM Kreem's music - man, its entirely genius. Mad arrangement, mad variations, mad pacing, mad everything! I love it and I loved Malvika's rendition of it too.
"Ajeeb Dastaan hai yeh" is a perennial favorite and I thought one can't go wrong with this song. But Malvika somehow did. I mean, she didn't totally mess up, except in some parts and I don't know if its her classical training or whatever, but the simpler the song, the harder it seems for her to sing effectively. Maybe she tries too hard to add an extra something and that's why she messes up?

4. Rohit: "Ek ladki ko dekha" was good, but could've been better. He sounded deflated today, like his voice didn't have any "jaan" in it.
But in "Zindagi ka saath", he managed a few Rohitesque tadkas that were awesome! And can I just say I'm crazy about this song, I want to kiss Rohit for choosing it. The tune is so beautiful and the lyrics - what do I say about the lyrics - I can only weep. Sahir 😭!! 👏

5. Mohit: He was not bad in "Ae bhai", but he murdered "Kabhi Kabhi" 🤢. Not his type of song, as Sonu Nigam pointed out, and he also pointed out that he needs to adapt to singing differently, not just the high notes. He has a niche I guess, and there's nothing wrong with that, plenty of singers do, but he will never be a well-rounded singer, and that's ok. He can be master of his genre.

6. Khudabaksh: He was the worst today. I've never been a fan, but I've conceded when he's actually performed well. Today, well, he wreaked havoc on "Ye Reshmi zulfein" and then proceeded to annihilate "Kisiki muskurahaton pe" for which I will never forgive him because its such a simple, feel good song and an absolute personal favorite especially for the lyrics (Man, Shailendra must be turning in his grave)😲. What did you do, KB? 🤢😡

I'm gonna refrain from commenting on the promo or the drama that is to come tomorrow. The lack of comments by the judges didn't bother me because they stopped making any meaningful comments long ago since public voting started.

Truly, I wish there were more episodes like this - paying tribute to geniuses, learning from them, remembering them, acknowledging the richness of their contribution! Anu Malik's anecdote about Gulzar and what he said about Hasrat, Shailendra, SJ, Rk, Lata, Rafi et al together digging the well and the rest of them pulling up water from that well were so refreshing to hear! And Farah talking abt RD and Javed Akhtar and how "Ek Ladki ko dekha" was born. This is what musical programs should be like. About educating people about music, taking examples out of our rich past and incredible musicians and lyricists that made such phenomenal songs! I know I'm in the minority here and the channel will take no heed. Even this episode was pushed as a filler episode that isn't important because anyways its the result wala episode! Tomorrow everyone will be back in their A-game and back to singing what they know best. Predictable. Boring. Scared. And hunting for votes. And that is the sad thing about these reality shows 👎🏼

After such beautiful songs yesterday, today's episode seemed just okay okay. Loved Alia and Varun's chemistry. And I've got to say Varun is such a sport.

My review in order of performance-

Khudabaksh- I fail to understand why the judges praise him so much. Today clearly he didn't feel the song. He was in sur but without the right emotion the song doesn't feel right. Didn't enjoy it at all. As for his proposal to Alia, I cant believe he's so shy that he can't even hold her hand. It's overacting. And he ruined main tenu samjhawan ki. He uses the same harkat for every song.

Revanth - he has such an amazing voice, almost everything he sings sounds good. It's good to see his pronunciation improve. He's finally learnt to use the kh sound, though he still uses k for kh many times, but that'll come with practice. I enjoyed this song as much in Revanths voice as in Atifs. Loved his dance with Alia though it was over the top. Finally all three judges praised him and that was such a relief. But he truly deserved it.

Rohit - definitely the best today. Rohit's been quite versatile and is now truly coming into his own. I didn't enjoy the end of the song. Other than that he was brilliant. He's also working on his performance and that's good to see.

Mohit - Id never heard this song until I heard Mohit sing. And I enjoyed his performance. I can't comment on his sur and all because I only heard the song after his performance and couldn't really judge. But mohits song didn't make me emotional. I don't know if it was just me (and my husband), because on the show everybody was almost crying.

Maalavika - she chose such a beautiful song, but I didn't like her version at all. Though today when she started she sounded quite nice but somewhere in between I stopped enjoying the song. While Farah said she enjoyed the husky sound, I didnt, not in this song atleast. I think she is overconfident and that's beginning to show.

My ranking for today -

1. Rohit
2. Revanth
3. Mohit
4. Khudabaksh
5. Maalavika

I would've loved to hear Alia sing, she's such an amazing singer.

Next week I think Maalavika will be eliminated. If not her Mohit.

The bottom three in my opinion - Khudabaksh, Maalavika, Mohit.

Agree about his singing. He isn't feeling the songs, is he? I think he should be playing in his own space a while longer before trying other song types. I am not even sure about his "sur" aspect. It felt off yesterday. As for his proposal, I do think he's shy when it comes to girls and I like KB in general- his music is just not reaching upto the benchmark at this moment.

[quote=~Raina~] Revanth - he has such an amazing voice, almost everything he sings sounds good. It's good to see his pronunciation improve. Agree on all of it 😆

Yes, his singing's great. Plus, I'm not a fan of his voice. Cannot pull a crowd in though. Feels like a version of Rashid Ali's voice, but minus the edge- the Kabhi Kabhi Aditi guy. Again, I like the guy, but the voice is not magnetic enough for me to hear on headphones.

[quote=~Raina~] Mohit - Id never heard this song until I heard Mohit sing. And I enjoyed his performance. Ditto- it was a tragicomedy😕. Sonu Nigam has my deepest sympathies over his mother's loss and I can understand the thought of our mothers can move us, but, Mohit didn't make me emotional.

[quote=~Raina~] Maalavika - she chose such a beautiful song, but I didn't like her version at all. I usually like her. Her voice didn't sound husky to me yesterday though. It sounded as if she had over- strained her vocal cords. Hoarse, rather.

My reviews for Saturday's episode:

First of all the guest for the episode Dr. Kumar Vishwas. I don't know who he is but loved his voice. I felt he had certain knowledge about music.

1. Revanth - He was flawless and I think he's improving day by day. And,since I'm an Aamir fan was very happy when he sang Pehla Nasha. This song somehow takes me to a different world. His Aanewala Pal too was awesome.

2. Malvika - Her Dil Mein Jagi was wonderful. Though it was obvious that she was out of breath at the end. Nevertherless she was amazing. Enjoyed Ajeeb Dastan too.

3. Rohit - Not a fan of Ek Ladki Ko Dekha but enjoyed it since Rohit sang very well. Zindagi Ka Saath was too good.

4. Tajinder - He did a great job with Tum Jo Mil Gaye Ho. Ae Zindagi Gale too was exceptional.

5. Mohit - Enjoyed Ae Bhai but didn't quite like Kabhi Kabhi that much since maybe he came out of his comfort zone. But,hats off for trying out something different.

6. Khudabaksh - Didn't enjoy both Yeh Reshmi Zulfein and Kisi Ki Muskurahato.

Last but not the least was very upset with Tajinder's elimination.

1. Revanth
2. Malvika
3. Rohit
4. Tajinder
5. Mohit
6. Khudabaksh

Reviews for Sunday's episode:

1. Khudabaksh - I didn't like his singing one bit. He was atrocious.

2. Revanth - He was mind blowing and I really loved the song that he sang. For once he left behind Arijit,so that was a relief.

3. Rohit - He was excellent as always and I guess he's leaving behind his stammering problem.

4. Mohit - Though I heard this song for the first time I liked it. I too felt little bit emotional while listening.

5. Malvika - This is one of my favourite and I loved it. I'm not an expert in music so wouldn't comment on sur and taal.

My list:

1. Revanth
2. Rohit
3. Malvika
4. Mohit
5. Khudabaksh

I just saw this comment posted by PVNS Rohit on one of the videos posted by Sony on FB. Poor Rohit! Looks like he was hurt badly to see those discouraging comments about him on FB.

Let me make it clear to those people who are speaking all irrelevant things like sympathy and some other factors. Not a single judge is biased when it comes to the judgement and they thought i was the best on the day purely based on my performance. If you don't like my performance , it's up to u and u have the right to express your view but it's just unfair to speak something about sympathy and other things which does not count in the judgement. It shows how well matured you guys are ! Music might be enjoyed by anyone but Music can be judged by only those people who has that sense and command on the Music. That's the reason why those three judges are there and they are doing their job perfectly. Please think before you comment on anything especially , on social media as it tells how matured or how childish you guys are ! Thanks everyone
