It is an era of rehashing old songs for some reason. So far Tamma Tamma, Humma Humma, Disco Deewane, Dil Kya Kare, Saara Zamana, Mahi Ve, Pal Pal Dil Ke Paas, Oye Oye -oh God the list is neverending-have been remade. The next one in line is Tu Cheez Badi Badi Hai Mast Mast. The superhit 90's masala song has been remade for upcoming film Machine. The teaser of the song, featuring the lead pair, just dropped in and we are scared, as it does not look very promising. Who knows what the full video holds for us. Would it do justice to the original or not?
Filmmaker Abbas is going all out for the debut vehicle of his son Mustafa. Machine trailer shows that money has been spent, maybe not wisely, while making this movie. It somewhere reminds you of SRK's Baazigar. And we wish it will remind us of Mohra equally well. Though this is too soon to judge, but the from the tease of it, Cheez Badi doesn't look good. Also, why on Earth will you name a song cheez badi'? How are people even going to talk about the number? Tu Cheez Badi Hai Mast Mast was already crude enough, by shortening it to Cheez Badi the makers have made it worse.
The original voice has been retained from the old song in Cheez Badi. Much like Tamma Tamma Again. There is high octane choreography! There is a lot of drama that has been created with the help of props, lights, water splashes, and dazzling costumes. It does take up the drama of Mohra song up by a notch. We will wait to see the entire song Cheez Badi, which is set to debut on Monday. Fingers crossed, it should be good.
And while we are at it, Bollywood really needs to get out of the rut of remaking old songs. Enough is enough. I have a bright idea to fight the situation - ask music directors to come up with new dance numbers! Simple and brilliant.
