I completely agree. It is all about popularity nowadays, not the art. Many popular faces do well now because of who they are associated with (work/personal), and how well the producers, channels they work with market them and their shows. If an actor is a part of a pairing that gains popularity due to the over-the-top romanticization, rather than their actual onscreen chemistry (which is an art form too, because it takes talent for two people to pass off believable chemistry through their acting) than they automatically gain popularity 😆
Honestly, I don't know anymore- it really comes down to luck. There are so many actors out there who are yet to get their big break and may have more talent than those who have been given their big break.
Art is so hard to judge, it all depends on the eye of the beholder. Something I may say is talent, you may say is complete BS 😆 It also depends on what stage we are in, in our own lives, as the viewers and how much we have been exposed to, to judge. 😉
There are many talented actors who lose out on opportunities because they don't have as much of a fan following as another even though they are very talented. Also, actors nowadays need to kiss up to others (example: producers, co-actors, directors), because it is all about who you know too. The politics within the industry is real, and if anyone says otherwise I will have a hard time believing them.
For example, I've seen how many more likes some of the lesser popular/known artists in Beyhadh have gotten on Instagram when one of their more popular co-actors make an appearance. It is normal, and if it works for you great, go with it, cause the chances of being recognized purely based on your talent is very very rare 😛
