Saanjh : The reason I love Saanjh first and foremost is because despite her imperfections, despite her flaws, despite her inability to put herself first, despite anything and everything that might not be so likeable about her, she's one character who always tries to be the better person. One character who has her principles, her values, her beliefs, her upbringing teachings by Prem-Suman cemented right where it is supposed to be; in her heart, in her mind, in her soul. I love how even though she fails at times, she gathers herself together and starts trying. She breaks, she falls, she rises. Tries and tries but never gives up on working for the good of her loved one's, be it Arjun and his family or her own family. She's not mahaan, she has her limits of bearing pain and humiliation which is why she desperately wanted to leave once her job was done. But she's not the kind to give up or run away at the slightest sight of trouble. She loves her loved one's fiercely and loyally and she'll do everything in her power to do the best for them. She'll make sure unless and until her loved one has broken the last straw in her, she stays. Stay with them, for them. Fight with them, for them. Even if it kills her, even if it kills her over and over again, she'll still do it. That's not obsession, that's not loss of self-respect, that's not being a doormat, that's not being clingy, that's not being a cry baby. That is just being the person she is. Let's say even if she is the kind of a person who'd let others walk over her time and again, she still believes in giving them as many as chances as she can. Because she values certain principals and places them on the highest pedestal. Places them over everything, even herself. Flawed, it is, very much. I say it is still very human.
The courage, the strength, the faith, the maturity with which she worked today for a greater cause just had me. It was not just giving Arjun his happiness, it was earning Maya a chance at love and life when she couldn't earn that for herself. She genuinely wanted the people and society to give Arjun and Maya a chance because everyone deserves a fair one. Hence, the dialogue, who vishwaas kya raasta dikhayega jo khud andha hai, pyaar apna raasta khud dikha deta hai'. And she said that while her eyes travelled from Arjun to Vandana. Vandana takes Suman's hand as a support because the taunt came from the girl she considered her daughter. For a moment there, I saw guilt in Vandana's eyes because she had let Saanjh and probably her own teachings down. It takes an incredible strength of character when you have to kill yourself within just so that the one you love can have his/her love. That courage, that spirit, that mettle is a rarity. She might go home, cry buckets of tears, crib, complain and be stuck forever in Arjun's love, that doesn't hold much account to me even though it classifies as wasting away your love and life. But at the end of the day, it is her choice to silently and distantly continue to love Arjun if she decides to. Unrequited love is a painful reality not many can feel/understand. 💔
Now, if anyone of you is about to tell me that Saanjh did whatever she did to be mahaan' or prove to the world as to how selfless she is or to do chance pe dance just incase Maya doesn't show up and she can marry Arjun, please STOP reading right now and kindly leave my thread. I'm not saying that because I am an alleged Saanjh fanatic or any such reason that must be popping in your heads right now, I'm saying it because I deeply respect that kind of character both in fictional and real world. So, I won't take such comments lightly this time around. I'm sure you'll find other threads where there'll be like-minded people, unke saath Saanjh ki dhajiya uda lena, mujhe no problem che. 😆
Maya : She's the sole reason I watch this show, believe it or not. The way her character is written may be extremely disappointing to me but she's still interests me. I have time and again stressed as to what qualities/traits of Maya I love and what I don't love about her. So, I won't get down to that now. She had me moved yesterday when her dream of a new life got shattered in minutes and she could do nothing but be rendered powerless, helpless and broken. It's never easy for a bride to abandoned moments before her marriage and worse when her alleged flaws/issues are at display for the world to judge and at its mercy. She had it all played out, all planned, all controlled, all set and one move by Ashwin and her palace came crumbling down. But today's Maya, she's the one I can't connect to, she's the one I can't feel for, she's the one I can't root for, she's the one I don't want to see (no matter how real it is) for the simple reason that it doesn't make me feel good. Saanjh may not be such a good judge for seeing through people's mean, manipulative and cunning nature but she sees through people's character. She knew exactly what buttons to push so that Maya came running down to the mandap. She knew quite well that if she places herself in Maya's position, it is something Maya wouldn't be able to tolerate or allow. Saanjh set up a game, player against player, competitor against competitor, possible prospective bride against possible prospective bride. She knew as long as Maya is alive and kicking, she won't ever let Arjun be someone else's, let alone Saanjh's. The person she's always considered a threat and an enemy force. Saw how bloody well that worked? Maya came running to Arjun jaise kisi ke haath uska tota lag gaya ho jiss tote mein uski jaan basti hai. 😆
What happens next? Goodness, Maya tried so hard to appear grateful, thankful, appreciative and indebted but all she truly felt was defeat. Maya's not known to lose, she doesn't like to feel inferior, she doesn't like it when someone else has a greater power. Saanjh shielded, enamored and empowered with her sense of love made Maya seem nothing in front of her. Saanjh echoed like a voice where every other voice dies, she stood like a mountain in whose greatness Maya appeared merely a rocky stone, she exhibited a kind of power Maya couldn't have imagined or yielded herself. I expected her to show at least an ounce of genuine gratitude towards Saanjh seeing what lengths she went to get Arjun and her married but alas! Maya's traumatic past and childhood which shaped up personality, her nature, her upbringing, everything that has made her, her, she knows and understands nothing beyond obsession, toxicity, dominance, authority, superiority, insecurity, abuse and power. All she could manage was to pretend that she was thankful to Saanjh but her expressions, forced and fake smiles, her demeanour, every single thing was a give away (including the screenplay and BG scores). Damaged, it is, quite much. But then again, still very human. Sigh. 💔 I hope this girl one day can free herself from her demons and gets all the happiness, love and peace she deserves to have.
Lastly, ____ Maya took over (koi bhi naam daal do bhai, blank mein. Obsessed, mental, lunatic, kuch bhi. Main bolungi toh kuch log protest pe utar aayenge. 😆) and practically forces Arjun to get married in a burning mandap. Major throwback to the hot air ballon proposal. Almost like, yahan se mujhe nikalna hai ya khud nikalna hai toh shaadi karne ka pading. 😆 They aren't even technically married, are they? I didn't catch 7 pheras happening, it were just 3-4 where Maya was in front, Arjun never got his turn to come forward and do the rest of the pheras. Oh, the way she had a subtle but creepy smile on her face throughout. 😳 After watching this delightful scenario, anyone and everyone present at the wedding are bound to think and believe that Maya has got some serious mental health issues. Kinda like, iski toh aata maajhi satkeli hai. That is a FACT. A reality. Vandana, Ayan, Shubh, Suman, all people around them, even their dead ancestors in grave would believe so.
Vandana : Uske baare mein baat karne ko bahut material milega baad mein bhi, especially Monday's episode. 😆 So, may be, later.
Arjun : Na munna na, tere pe apni energy aur dimaag nahi waste karni mujhe. 😆 Filhaal jao, police uncle ke saath. Phir Maya aur Saanjh teri jaan bachane aa hi jayenge. Jail ke shirts bhi 2-3 button khol ke pehen na, okay? Tata!
Ashwin : Alvida ek ache character. Tu tha toh ek number ka *beep* *beep* *beep* par tu yaad bada aayega because iss show mein crisply written characters ki dearth hai, you were still okay.
Phew! That got too long, I suppose. Thank you for the patience and hugs if you actually managed to read both the posts. 🤗
