I read through all all the comments in this thread. Since I already posted my thoughts on the ME on a different thread, I won't repeat it all here. But I do want to respond to some of the comments in this thread. I think most of the people in this thread truly gets Sanj and connects to Sanj, so I won't go into the details of Sanj cos I agree with your views on Sanj.
Okay, glad.
I want to respond to the comments on maya cos I am not completely onboard with all the Maya comments in this thread. I read in one of the comments that Maya has lost her plot and it is hard to connect to her. To me Maya is one of the best written and deeply thought out character in the show. Maya is defined by her insecurity, obsessive love and her manipulation. She has stayed true to those characteristics so far without any deviations. When she loves she loves with every single cell in her body and she expects the same back. She is not going to get the beautiful friendship between Sanj and Arjun, she is not going to get Arjun's bonds with his mom and brother, she is going to want Arjun to be hers and hers alone. She wants full control of Arjun, that is Maya's. Maya so far has remained true to her characterization. And all these characteristics in her will drive Arjun away one day. She is smart enough to know she has to keep Sanj close by not because she likes Sanj because she knows Sanj needs to stay close for Arjun to stay close to Maya.
I agree with you completely on those points. Although, the only condition for it is if Maya was actually written as a character you described her to be. IF that is essentially all that there is to Maya then doesn't she become the antagonist force in the show? The one who cannot be rooted for or supported because of the good vs evil concept the show so badly stresses upon. Maya and Saanjh are always shown to be these opposite forces capable of cancelling each other out. IF they're the opposing forces, surely one has to be a positive one and the other negative one? One + and one -? IF Maya's characterization is truly all that I have said too time and again, and all that you just described, then she remains true to her character. Going by that, the story makes her a negative character and then good will have to truimph over the evil. Hadh se zyada kuch bhi nahi hota, pyaar bhi nahi has to play out eventually then.
Coming to Arjun and his need to exist in the show. True most of the powerful scenes are between Sanj and Maya. Arjun seems to be just a clueless duffer in most of the events going around his life. But his presence is crucial to Mays's craziness. Maya doesn't give 2 hoots to Sanj if not for Arjun. Arjun is the one who ties Maya and Sanj together and Sanj is the one who brings Maya and Arjun together. Without Arjun and Maya and Maya's beyhadh love for Arjun there is no beyhadh.
He's mostly a plot device, more or less. His existence is so that Maya and Saanjh can wage a war and compete against each other. Yes, he's the one who ties Maya and Saanjh through him and he's the one who has the suffer the worst of possible. What makes him utterly uninteresting though is, how one dimensional he seems to be with no compass of his own.
So far the writers have kept all three characters true to their characterization and so far they are staying true to their plot. As long as they don't deviate from the plot and do not mess up with characterization I am loving the show I am here to stay. The minute I see deviations, the show will be history for me :)
I think you happen to be one of rare viewers who happens to be incredibly satisfied with the show and that's a good thing because you can truly enjoy it. And what could be better than that? 😳
