Thanks for sharing this wonderful video Mansi.
I am feeling embarrassed to say I was not aware of Bajirao Peshwa's samadhi being in MP 😳

Frankly after watching the video the only thought that came to mind was - this was a man who literally lived and died for our country. Look at the state of his samadhi. Sanjay Leela Bhansali must have made a fortune making film on his life. Why can't the SLB's production house spend a % of the profits in sprucing up the samadhi and taking responsibility of its upkeep for say 10 odd years?

I wish when these richy rich PH made films/tv serials on the historical figures, it should be made compulsory to allocate a % of the cost for maintenance.

Ekta K can certainly afford to pay for Akbar and Jodha/Harka Bai's samadhi upkeep. Contiloe can do the same for MRP and Ashoka's memories.

Maybe Government/Information & Broadcasting ministry should make it mandatory before allowing PH to make historical.

@bold: The same thoughts were going through my mind while watching the video. This is the state of not just Bajirao's samadhi but of a majority of our historical monuments. Just recently there was news about Shivaji's statue in the Arabian Sea, and while I do appreciate the effort of the Government, why not spend the same time & effort rebuilding all his forts? Personally I would love to visit those forts & hear stories of his wins THERE rather than at some amphitheater in Mumbai. The feel of being at a place these great people were a few hundred years ago is surreal & is something which everyone should experience at least once in his lifetime. Not only would this boost tourism (imagine a grand tour covering all the major forts of Shivaji!) but it will also ensure our history is passed on to the next generation.

Your idea of about making the film fraternity pay for it is excellent. If they can use their name for publicity (because really other than the names most other things are fiction) then they can also spare some money for the rebuilding & upkeep of their homes, samadhis, forts. It hurts to see places which are worthy of worship lying abandoned.

Thanks for sharing, Mansi.

His samadhi / chattri , which holds his ashes, was built by the Scindhias in honor of their brave general. Bajirao died at this village due to high fever.

However, the present state of this samadhi is very bad. It is on banks of river Narmada. It is slowly turning into a watery grave due to construction of the Maheshwar dam on the Narmada river. The cenotaph is submerging slowly.

This has been its state since 2011 - 12 and nothing has been done even after the movie. Except frustration, there is nothing in my mind when i look at the sad state of historical places of our nation. Efforts are made but much more needs to be done.

This is lovely!

Visiting such places and hearing the lengthy narrations from guides never fails to give me goosebumps! Just to imagine these men rode about on earth once.

It's unfortunate though that these heroes, our real superheroes are neglected thus and forgotten altogether. Men and women who ruled and rallied, now find their memoirs hiding in some bleak, dilapidated memorial or deserted graveyards! We need Bollywood blockbusters to remind us of your proud ancestors...

Thanks for sharing, Manasi😳

Line in bold, I have mixed feelings about this. Frankly it is not just about the cost involved.

This proposal was brought by the previous state government. Current government was in no position to alter this. There would have been hue and cry by opposition saying this government does not want to honor Shivaji Maharaj this way. So they just continued it. So many scams happened in India, let them recover the money and use it for this.

Secondly, Shivaji Maharaj's Navy and his far sighted approach about British is not as well known. A memorial to him at Sea is somewhat apt.

I agree with you totally, the feeling when I visited Raigad was something else, it was an honor just to be there. Truly memorable.

They should definitely spruce up all the forts. There is nothing to beat the feeling of actually being in that place. However, not every can visit the forts so a memorial where they can have maybe replicas of all forts and audio visual programs is also good idea. Why not do both?

I think there are treks arranged by some groups which include various forts.

Shivaji Maharaj, Bajirao Peshwe all the great men from history don't care about these memorials. They did what they wanted to in their lifetimes and they are immortal because of their deeds what they achieved. It is us honoring these great men.
Agree with you, these memorials are for future generations, as reminder and motivation. Wouldn't it be great if they restore the forts and also build a memorial?

True! Use names to shove fiction under guise of NR! Why didn't SLB Productions think about Bajirao Peshwe's samadhi? They must have done research for the project. With their mega budgets they can spare a % of it for such works. I really think Government should bring such a rule before granting permission.

It is so sad and pathetic to know this and nobody in authority doing anything for restoration.
I wish some journalists mention this to Sanjay Leela Bhansali and ask why his PH did not think about the state of Samadhi and doing restoration when they did research for the movie? Or after the movie became hit and they earned mega bucks!
