Why is producer's figure thought of as false?

When the producers say that their movie has earned X amount of money in public domain , don't they have to pay Income tax on that?

Further why do some people trust BOI for stats , is it because they quote lesser figures ? So if any shady website quotes even lesser figures than BOI then would that be more trustworthy ? What are the sources of the boi figures? IS there any auditor which audits the stats given by them?

Also is there any actor whose figures comes close to producer's figures as per BOI?

I think during IT returns, one has to show records of Earning and Expenses. That's why Producers can show 100 Cr Gross in public and during filing tax return, they will show various expenses and pay tax on 5 cr profit.

whatver, if they show X amount as earning , it should be trusted because a CA is auditing

I am sure there are ways and means to manage this auditing.

We know for a fact that Producers do ghapla.

Hope someone more knowledgeable comes and posts a sensible reply. This question always pops in my mind when I read about producers posting wrong figures.
