I wanted to do a post on a similar aspect but I'll share in this thread because of how much what I have to day connects to the folk tale and underlying narratives in the script:
Since day one I have observed that Sonakshi relies heavily on validation of her actions by others. Sonakshi like Part, loved Dev before he fell in love with Dev. She was also ready to forgo her love for him when Natasha came into the picture because she believed in his happiness. Sonakshi required very open, expressive and clear words f validation to belief that Dev Dixit does love her.

During the courtship phase of Dev and Sonakshi, Sonakshi repeatedly promised Dev that she wouldn't ever leave him even if he leaves her and that is the only promise she hadn't kept through out their partnership. She fulfilled all the other promises and tasks but the one that mattered most to Dev was her promise of being with him regardless of him wanting to be with her or not. I very much believe that this unfulfilled promise is the reason of Dev's bitterness and anger with Sonakshi that refuses to die down. He had went to extreme lengths to avoid hearing about her or learning about her in past seven years because he cannot fathom remembering her betrayal of not fighting for him when he in his very dysfunctional way was fighting for her by keeping her presence in his life to be separate from the presence of his family's which only gave him baggage to carry. Dev's failed attempt of being a bridge and not allowing Sonakshi to integrate into his family's life pushed Sonakshi to the extent where all of her attempts to gain approval of Dev's god - "ishwari" failed and the last words she heard from Dev were of disbelief in their love, invalidating her love for him and calling her feelings to be of unrequited lover.

Sonakshi's resentment roots from the fact that this man made fun of her feelings only to get something in his life his way. After the first break up, Dev attended Sonakshi's engagement and congratulated her in a way to mock her choices instead of being supportive. If Dev hadn't been restricted by the expectations of his mother, he would have turned into a tame version of Vicky. A boy/man who believed whole heartedly that he is entitled to the things because he likes them. Sonakshi met Dev in his most ugly form where he ripped her off her life's hard work just because he needed his mother to be following a healthy diet. Sonakshi had seen the worst of Dev but then she had also seen that the man was honest in his words and didn't manipulate his words for other's disadvantage. All of Dev's flaws allowed Sonakshi to believe in the worst of him when he refused to hand her the validation she required so much in a testing time where we realized she couldn't be a mother. She wasn't a priority in the moment she needed Dev's attention the most. It was his mother and like the first time when they broke up, Dev chose his mother in moment of weakness because for him the illusion of his perfect family was more important then understanding how to make sure that perfection remained perfect.

I am sorry if I am not making sense. To conclude my understanding of the script to the folk take, I believe that we are witnessing now a vision Dev's story of living through his pain by once again throwing tantrums except this time Part aka Sonakshi wouldn't come back to him when he validates his love for him. He made impulsive decisions without thinking and the decisions that needed to be thought out were taken through heart. His mother never asked Sonakshi to leave. He never asked Sonakshi to leave but Sonakshi wasn't important enough and Suhana's existence and him missing out on his perhaps only daughters childhood would be a knock out realization of Dev Dixit finally figuring out his mistakes.

It would interesting to see weather the colors of love in Dev's life that will allow him happiness of his own would be through the family his mother gave him or family Sonakshi gives him seeing he is a family oriented man. Weather he needs to reach the brink of destruction to rise from the ashes or he's already half way there is something I am still figuring out but the parallel of folk tales, everyday problems handled in KRPKAB is amazing and the new slate to clear out the old baggage is wonderful.

> Also want to add that i love how Sonakshi has bought half of Dev's office. Goes to show how Ishwari pushed Dev to build up his success and his family's collapse and downfall which was initiated by Vicky has resulted in a profit of sorts with Sonakshi utilizing the distress to build up her own business on the same grounds.

edited to add;
I skimmed through the thread and I have to say that the parallel between Dev and Devdas' tapestry of decisions seems strong. One thing I remember distinctly from the first promos is that Dev and Sonakshi are separated from each other officially and there conversation revolves around the fact that Ishwari never said she doesn't want Sonakshi in Dev's life but Sonakshi's importance in Dev's life is not paralleled to Ishwari's. Sonakshi would always be number two and in all the promos Sonakshi walks away by hangs up the phone, returning her pen Dev had taken from her while not addressing weather she would come back and obviously walking away from him. I don't think this season would end with a Dev and Sonakshi reunion. The first episode of second season promised us that there is no KKHH involved with presence of Suhana. I think the season would revolve around Dev and Sonakshi prioritizing different things on top of there love and finally coming at peace with that in the end. I would be disappointed by the whole narrative otherwise.

You made excellent points. True, the only promise Sonakshi did not keep, the one Dev was relying on was that she won't ever leave him even if he leaves him.

On the other hand, Dev left/threw her out of his life over and over again.

Funny how Dev expected Sonakshi to be a glutton for punishment.

And yes, what bothered me about Dev since the beginning, he wanted to have everything without working for anything.

He wanted his mother to love Sonakshi and Sonakshi to get along with his mother. But he didn't set any boundaries for either relationships which made his mother continue to encroach in his marriage.

The more Dev tried to keep Sonakshi on the fringes of his life despite her having to live in the same house with his family, the more Sonakshi tried to be included in Dev's family as his wife.

What you said about Sonakshi was also true. Her bitterness was definitely Dev's many lies and broken promises, not to mention Dev abandoning her yet again at the lowest point of her life when she was questioning her self-worth as a woman and wife.

The point is however whether Dev after learning about Suhaana's existence would go through the realization of the extent of damage he and his mother did to his own life or yet again will blame Sonakshi for everything and turn on her. I hope for the former since it's long overdue. But Dev is very unpredictable so could be later as well.

You made perfect sense to me in your analysis of the two characters. 👏

Edited part: I agree with that. I think as per narrative and initial promo, they are not meant to be together. But walk away understanding and accepting the fact and at peace with themselves.

@bold: Season 1 ending with separation of Dev-Sona was the best part for me..👏 These two have proved time and again that they love each other immensely (for whatever reasons they hav e for their love for each other) but very unfit to live together.. Many times it's not necessary that two people in love need to share their lifetime together.. Because living together needs more than just love which Dev-Sona claim to have.. They are not ready to give the individual space they need for their own identity.. They are almost obsessed with each other in one way or the other..

If Dev has learnt to come out of the extreme obsession of his mother, then slowly he might learn to let go of his extreme obsession for Sona too 😉. With or without 'Ishwari'maa he would have slowly found it annoying if he was expected to change his way of living 😆 He would even have blamed Sona when he had decided to choose Sona over his mother because for him it will always sound like a big sacrifice from his end and will never be able to accept that it is inevitable to go through those changes via a marriage like theirs with a bunch of relatives like what he has 😆 . And if Sona continues to be the understanding one then no issues else it will be a straight away "get out" 😆

I too wish to not have them get back together in the end of Season 2.. A lot happened in the seven years and all they can do is clear any misunderstanding left out and really move on like adults... They can just be the good parents to Soha sharing their responsibilities... To keep the show really good enough for a good lesson learnt.. Else another fiction just ready to be forgotten the moment The End shows up...😉
